TiAlN을 코팅한 WC공구의 절삭성능에 관한 연구 (Cutting Performance of TiAlN coated WC Insert Tip)

  • TiAIN was deposited onto ISO P2O Cutting Insert Tip substrate by FVAS at the substrate temperature of 80$^{\circ}C$. Cutting and wear test have been performed with TiAIN coated and uncoated WC cutting tools, respectively. Uncoated WC cutting tool has been tested under similar cutting condition for comparison. Cutting force and tool wear of coated and uncoated carbide cutting tools were investigated by cutting length. In cutting test, cutting force of the coated insert tip was larger than the uncoated insert tip by tool wear. Configuration and wear of the coated tool were more stable and resistant than the uncoated. In tool life by the tool wear, the coated cutting tool life was rather longer than the uncoated when tested at high speed (V=250 m/min) than low speed (V=200 m/min), Cutting force, tool wear and life were analysised by tool dynamometer amp(3ch) and oscilloscope.

  • The austenitic STS 304 stainless steel was turned to clarify the effects of tool geometry on the tool wear. The wear of TiN-TiCN-TiC-TiAlN coated tungsten carbide tool was the smallest, exhibiting larger wear in the order of Si-Al-O-N ceramic, TiN coated tungsten carbide, TiN-TiCN-TiN coated tungsten carbide, TiC-TiN cermet and M20 tungsten carbide tools at the same cutting conditions. The S-type tool of M20 with large approach angle showed the longest tool life of all tools used in this tests due to preventing the groove wear of the side cutting edge. The wear of the S-type tool with the rake angle of 15$^{\circ}$became smaller than with that of -5$^{\circ}$, but the tool with the nose radius of 0.8mm did not perform much better with increasing the rake angle.

STS 304 선삭시의 공구마멸 특성 (Tool-Wear Characteristics in Turning of STS 304)

  • The effect of tool geometry on the tool wear in turning the austenitic stainless steel, STS 304 was investigated. The wear of TiN-TiCN-TiC-TiAlN coated tungsten carbide tool was the smallest, showing larger wear in the order of Si-Al-O-N ceramic, TiN coated tungsten carbide, TiN- TiCN- TiN coated tungsten carbide, TiC-TiN cermet and M20 tungsten carbide tools at the same cutting conditions. The S-type tool of M20 with the larger side cutting edge angle showed the smallest tool wear in all tests due to preventing the groove wear of the side cutting edge.   • The technique of high speed machining is widely studied in machining field. In this study, TiAIN single-layered and TiAIN/TiN double-layered coatings were applied to end-mill by an arc ion plating technique. Their performances were comparatively studied about cutting force, tool wear, tool life and surface roughness of workpiece under high speed cutting conditions. The TiAIN single-layer coated tool showed higher wear-resistance due to its higher hardness, while the TiAIN/TiN double-layer coated tool showed better performance for high metal removal, i.e., high fled per tooth condition due to its higher toughness. The surface roughness of the workpiece was not influenced by the wear amount of coated tools.

  • A high-hardness tool material is required to reduce extreme abrasive wear when drilling carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Single-crystal diamond is the hardest material in the world, but it is very expensive to be used as a cutting tool. Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is a diamond grit fused at a high temperature and pressure, and diamond-like carbon (DLC) is an amorphous carbon with high hardness. This study compares DLC coatings and PCD inserts to conventional TiAlN-coated tungsten carbide drills. In fiberglass and carbon fiber reinforced polymer drilling, the tool wear of DLC-coated carbide was approximately half that of TiAlN-coated tools, and slight tool wear occurred in the case of PCD insert end drills.

초경 볼 엔드밀의 TiAlN 코팅 처리조건이 건식가공환경에서 고경도 강재의 절삭 특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of TiAlN coated Ball End Mill on Cutting characteristic of High Hardness Steels in Dry Condition)

  • This paper is studied on the effect of TiAlN coated ball end mill on cutting characteristic of high hardness steels in dry cutting condition without coolant. KP4 steels[HRC32] and STD11[HRC60] heat treated steels wert: used as the workpiece and WC-Co ball end mill and single and multi layer TiAlN coated ball end mill were utilized. Results showed that TiAlN coated ball end mill were increased the cutting length than WC-Co ball end mill in the cutting speed$[245\~320m/min]$ about $2\~5$ times for KP4 steels and about $2.7\~4.3$ times for STD11 heat treated steels. The multi layer TiAlN coated ball end mill is good about $1.2\~1.7$ times for KP4 steels and STD11 steels than single layer coated.

  • This paper is studied on the effect of TiAlN coated Ball End Mill and MQL(Minimum Quantity Lubrication) cutting condition on cutting characteristic of high hardness steels. KP4 steels[HRC32] and STD11[HRC60] heat treated steels were used as the workpiece and WC-Co ball end mill and single and multi layer TiAlN coated ball end mill were utilized in the cutting tests. MQL device was used to spray botanical oil coolant. Result showed that TiAlN coated ball end mill were increased the cutting length than WC-Co ball end mill in the cutting speed[$245{\sim}320m/min$] about $2.3{\sim}5.7$ times for KP4 steels and about $2.5{\sim}4.3$ times far STD11 heat treated steels. The multi layer TiAlN coated ball end mill is good for KP4 steels than single layer coated.

SCM415강의 원형포켓 가공시 치수정밀도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dimensional Accuracy in Circular Pocket Machining of SCM415 Steel)

  • In this research, we examine the change of dimensional accuracy in the cutting process while changing cutting conditions such as feed rate and spindle rotational speed with chromium molybdenum steel (SCM415) material and TiCN- and TiAlN-coated end mill tools. According to dimensional accuracy measurement, TiCN-coated tool displays the most accurate dimensional tolerance at ${\varnothing}20mm$ at feed rates of 200 mm/min and 250 mm/min at a spindle rotation speed of 4,000 rpm. The largest dimension of the coating tool was able to make the TiAlN-coated tool suitable when comparing the smallest dimension.

TiYN코팅 고속도강 공구의 개발 및 공구수명 평가 (Development and Tool Life Assessment of TiYN Coated High Speed Steel Tools)

  • TiYN coated high speed steel tools have been developed and their tool lifes were assessed. First yttrium alloyed titanium target was manufactured, then using the arc ion plating(AIP) technique TiYN coating was deposited onto high speed steel substrate. Three kinds of varying thickness of TiYN coated tools were prepared. Cutting tests were carried out with theses tools and for comparison with the commercially available uncoated, TiN, TiCN and TiAlN coated tools. During the cutting tests flank wear width vs. cutting time was measured. It has been revealed that the newly developed TiYN coated tools show superior tool life characteristics to others.
