Surface Treatment of Al(OH)3 using Dilute Hydrofluoric Acid Aqueous Solution (저농도 HF 수용액을 이용한 Al(OH)3의 표면처리)

  • Treatment effects of dilute hydrofluoric acid (6 wt% HF) on the surface properties of $Al(OH)_3$ were investigated at the molar ratio of F/Al(fluoride/aluminum)=0.15. Temperature and pH variations in the reaction system were recorded to analyze reaction mechanism between $Al(OH)_3$ and aqueous Hf. The reaction of HF to the surface of $Al(OH)_3$ accompanied with a quantity of heat evolution, resulting in increasing temperature of a reactionsystem. And also the reaction was proceeded as transitional state which metastable ${\alpha}-form\;AlF_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ was transferred to insoluble ${\beta}$-form. The resulting ${\beta}-form\;AlF_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ formed by a surface treatment was identified by FT-IR and X-ray diffractormetry. The formation of ${\beta}$-form aluminum fluoride hydrates with diameter less than $1{\mu}m$ on the surface of $Al(OH)_3$ could be visulaized by SEM imgae, making up a coating layer as precipitate-like. The surface whiteness of $Al(OH)_3$ treated with aqueous HF was furthermore increased approximately 6.6% due to the formation of surface hydrates.

Removal of Arsenite by Nanocrystalline Mackinawite(FeS)-Coated Alumina (나노크기 매킨나와이트로 코팅된 알루미나에 의한 아비산염의 제거)

  • Due to the large specific surface area and great reactivity toward environmental contaminants, nanocrystalline mackinawite (FeS) has been widely applied for the remediation of contaminated groundwater and soil. Furthermore, nanocrystalline FeS is rather thermodynamically stable against anoxic corrosion, and its reactivity can be regenerated continuously by the activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria. However, nanocrystalline mackinawite is prone to either spread out along the groundwater flow or cause pore clogging in aquifers by particle aggregation. Accordingly, this mineral should be modified for the application of permeable reactive barriers (PRBs). In this study, coating methods were investigated by which mackinawite nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of alumina or activated alumina. The amount of FeS coating was found to significantly vary with pH, with the highest amount occurring at pH ~6.9 for both minerals. At this pH, the surfaces of mackinawite and alumina (or activated alumina) were oppositely charged, with the resultant electrostatic attraction making the coating highly effective. At this pH, the coating amounts by alumina and activated alumina were 0.038 and 0.114 $mmol{\cdot}FeS/g$, respectively. Under anoxic conditions, arsenite sorption experiments were conducted with uncoated alumina, uncoated activated alumina, and both minerals coated with FeS at the optimal pH for comparison of their reactivity. Uncoated activated alumina showed the higher arsenite removal compared to uncoated alumina. Notably, the arsenite sorption capacity of activated alumina was little changed by the coating with FeS. This might be attributed to the abundance of highly reactive hydroxyl functional groups (${\equiv}$AlOH) on the surface of activated alumina, making the arsenite sorption by the coated FeS unnoticeable. In contrast, the arsenite sorption capacity of alumina was found to increase substantially by the FeS coating. This was due to the consumption of the surface hydroxyl functional groups on the alumina surface and the subsequent occurrence of As(III) sorption by the coated FeS. Alumina, on the surface area basis, has about 8 times higher FeS coating amount and higher As(III) sorption capacity than silica. This study indicates that alumina is a better candidate than silica for the coating of nanocrystalline mackinawite.

  • 최근에 메모리의 초고속화, 고집적화 및 초절전화가 요구되면서 resistive random access memory (ReRAM), ferroelectric RAM (FeRAM), phase change RAM (PRAM)등과 같은 차세대 메모리 기술이 활발히 연구되고 있다. 다양한 메모리 중에서 특히 resistive random access memory (ReRAM)는 빠른 동작 속도, 낮은 동작 전압, 대용량화와 비휘발성 등의 장점을 가진다. ReRAM 소자는 절연막의 저항 스위칭(resistance switching) 현상을 이용하여 동작하기 때문에 SiOx, AlOx, TaOx, ZrOx, NiOx, TiOx, 그리고 HfOx 등과 같은 금속 산화물에 대한 연구들이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 이와 같이 다양한 산화물 중에서 AlOx는 ReRAM의 절연막으로 적용되었을 때, 우수한 저항변화특성과 안정성을 가진다. 하지만, AlOx 박막을 형성하기 위하여 기존에 많이 사용되어지던 PVD (physical vapour deposition) 또는 CVD (chemical vapour deposition) 방법에서는 두께가 균일하고 막질이 우수한 박막을 얻을 수 있지만 고가의 진공장비 사용 및 대면적 공정이 곤란하다는 문제점이 있다. 한편, 용액 공정 방법은 공정과정이 간단하여 경제적이고 대면적화가 가능하며 저온에서 공정이 이루어지는 장점으로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 sputtering 방법과 용액 공정 방법으로 형성한 AlOx 기반의 ReRAM에서 메모리 특성을 비교 및 평가하였다. 먼저, p-type Si 기판 위에 습식산화를 통하여 SiO2 300 nm를 성장시킨 후, electron beam evaporation으로 하부 전극을 형성하기 위하여 Ti와 Pt를 각각 10 nm와 100 nm의 두께로 증착하였다. 이후, 제작된 AlOx 용액을 spin coating 방법으로 1000 rpm 10 초, 6000 rpm 30 초의 조건으로 증착하였다. Solvent 및 불순물 제거를 위하여 $180^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 10 분 동안 열처리를 진행하였고, 상부 전극을 형성하기 위해 shadow mask를 이용하여 각각 50 nm, 100 nm 두께의 Ti와 Al을 electron beam evaporation 방법으로 증착하였다. 측정 결과, 용액 공정 방법으로 형성한 AlOx 기반의 ReRAM에서는 기존의 sputtering 방법으로 제작된 ReRAM에 비해서 저항 분포가 균일하지는 않았지만, 103 cycle 이상의 우수한 endurance 특성을 나타냈다. 또한, 1 V 내외로 동작 전압이 낮았으며 104 초 동안의 retention 측정에서도 메모리 특성이 일정하게 유지되었다. 결론적으로, 간단한 용액 공정 방법은 ReRAM 소자 제작에 많이 이용될 것으로 기대된다.

  • 용액 공정을 이용한 Resistive random access memory (ReRAM)은 간단한 공정 과정, 대면적화, 저렴한 가격 등의 장점으로 인해 큰 관심을 받고 있으며, HfOx, TiOx, AlOx 등의 산화물이 ReRAM 절연 막으로 주로 연구되고 있다. 더 나아가 최근에는 organic 물질을 메모리 소자로 사용한 연구가 보고되고 있다. 이는 경제적이며, wearable 또는 flexible system에 적용이 용이하다. 그럼에도 불구하고, organic 물질을 갖는 메모리 소자는 기존의 산화물 소자에 비해 열에 취약하며 전기적인 특성과 신뢰성이 우수하지 못하다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이를 위한 방안으로 본 연구에서는 AlOx - polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) blended thin film ReRAM을 제안하였다. 이는 organic물질의 전기적 특성을 개선시킬 뿐 아니라, inorganic 물질을 wearable 소자에 적용했을 때 발생하는 crack과 같은 기계적 물리적 결함을 해결할 수 있는 새로운 방법이다. 먼저, P-type Si 위에 습식산화를 통하여 SiO2 300 nm 성장시킨 기판을 사용하여 electron beam evaporation으로 10 nm의 Ti, 100 nm의 Pt 층을 차례로 증착하였다. 그리고 PMMA 용액과 AlOx 용액을 초음파를 이용하여 혼합한 뒤, 이 용액을 Pt 하부 전극 상에서 spin coating방법으로 1000 rpm 10초, 5000 rpm 30초의 조건으로 증착하였다. Solvent 및 불순물 제거를 위하여 150, 180, $210^{\circ}C$의 온도로 30 분 동안 열처리를 진행하였고, shadow mask를 이용하여 상부 전극인 Ti를 sputtering 방식으로 100 nm 증착하였다. 150, 180, $210^{\circ}C$로 각각 열처리한 AlOx - PMMA blended ReRAM의 전기적 특성은 HP 4156B semiconductor parameter analyzer를 이용하여 측정하였다. 측정 결과 제작된 소자 전부에서 2 V이하의 낮은 동작전압, 안정된 DC endurance (>150cycles), 102 이상의 높은 on/off ratio를 확인하였고, 그 중 $180^{\circ}C$에서 열처리한 ReRAM은 더 높은 on/off ratio를 갖는 것을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 baking 온도를 최적화하였으며 AlOx - PMMA blended film ReRAM의 우수한 메모리 특성을 확인하였다. AlOx-PMMA blended film ReRAM은 organic과 inorganic의 장점을 갖는 wearable 및 system용 비휘발성 메모리소자에 적용이 가능한 경제적인 기술로 판단된다.

  • We have successfully demonstrated the inkjet printing method to create $Al_2O_3$ films withouWe have successfully demonstrated the inkjet printing method to create $Al_2O_3$ films without a high temperature sintering process. In order to remove the coffee ring effect in the ink drop, we have introduced a co-solvent system in order to create Marangoni flow in the ink drop, which leads to the dense packing of ceramic powders on the substrate during inkjet process. The packing density of the Inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$ films is around 60% (max. 70%) which is very high compared to the value obtained from the same material films by other conventional methods such as film casting, dip coating process, etc. The voids inside the films (which are around 40% of the entire film volume) are filled with the polymer resin (Cyanate ester) by the infiltration process. This resin infiltration is also implemented by the inkjet printing process right after the Ah03 film ink-jetting process. The microstructures of the printed $Al_2O_3$ films are investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to understand the degree of packing density in the printed films. The inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$ films have been characterized to investigate its thickness and roughness. Quality factor of the printed $Al_2O_3$ film is also measured to be over 300 at 1MHz.

The Effect of Grain Refinement on Fluidity of Al-4.8%CU-0.6%Mn Alloy (입자미세화가 Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn 합금의 유동도에 미치는 영향)

  • A good fluidity of high strength Al-alloys is required to cast thin wall castings needed to reduce the weight of cast parts. The fluidity, measured as the length to which the metal flows in a standard channel, is affected by many factors, such as the pouring temperature, solidification type of the alloy, the channel thickness, melt head, mold materials and temperature, coating etc. Therefore the experimentally measured fluidity scatters very much and makes it difficult to estimate the fluidity of a melt with a few measurements. The effect of Ti content and grain refinement on the fluidity of high strength aluminum alloy was investigated with a test casting with 8 thin flow channels to reduce the scattering of the fluidity results. The fluidity of Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn Al-6.2%Zn-1.6%Mg-1.0%Cu and well-known commercial aluminum alloy, A356 was tested. Initial content of Ti was varied from 0 to 0.2wt% and Al-5Ti-B master alloy was added for grain refinement. The flow length varied linearly with superheat. By adding Ti and Al-5Ti-B, the fluidity increased. The grain size decreased by adding grain refiner at the same time. The fluidity depended on the degree of grain refinement. The fluidity of the alloy solidifying in mushy type is improved by grain refinement, because grain refinement increases the solid fraction at the time of flow stoppage.

Effect of Hot-stamping on Microstructures and Tensile Properties of Al-Si Coated Boron Steel Welds with Laser Source (Al-Si 도금된 보론강 레이저 소스에 따른 레이저 용접부의 미세조직과 기계적 성질에 미치는 핫스탬핑 처리의 영향)

  • In this study, the effect of laser source($CO_2$ and Nd:YAG) on the microstructure and tensile properties of laser welded Al-Si coated boron steel(1.2mmt) was investigated with before and after hot-stamping. In case of as welds condition, fracture occurred in base metal unrelated to the laser source. It could be explained that tensile strength of fusion zone composed of martensite and bainite is higher than that of base metal that contains a lot of ferrite despite dilution of Al and Si from coating layer to fusion zone. In case of hot-stamping condition, the fracture occurred in fusion zone irrelevant to laser source and the tensile strength was lower than hot stamped base metal. In the $CO_2$ laser welds, $Fe_3$(Al,Si) formed near the bond line was transformed into ferrite during hot-stamping. Therefore tensile strength of bond line is lower than that of base metal and center of fusion zone and the fracture occurred in the bond line. On the other hand, in the Nd:YAG laser welds, the higher concentration of Al formed the ferrite in the fusion zone during hot-stamping treatment. Also, the thickness of centerline was thinner than that of base metal. Therefore, it is considered that fracture occurred in centerline of fusion zone due to effect of concentration stress, and it leaded to a lower tensile strength and elongation.

Influence of thickness ratio and substrate bias voltage on mechanical properties of AlCrN/AlCrSiN double-layer coating (두께 비율과 기판 바이어스 전압이 AlCrN/AlCrSiN 이중층 코팅의 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • AlCrN 코팅은 높은 경도, 낮은 표면 조도 등의 상온에서의 우수한 기계적 특성 이외에 고온에서 안정한 합금상의 형성으로 인하여 우수한 내열성을 보이는 코팅이며, Si을 첨가하여 나노복합구조를 갖는 AlCrSiN 코팅은 고경도 특성을 나타내는 나노결정립과 고내열성을 나타내는 $Si_3N_4$ 비정질이 동시에 존재함으로써 뛰어난 고온 특성까지 보유하여 공구 코팅으로의 적용 가능성이 크다. 본 연구에서는, 가혹화된 공구사용 환경 대응 하는 더욱 우수한 내마모성 및 내열성을 보이는 코팅막을 개발하기 위해 AlCrN/AlCrSiN 이중층 코팅을 합성하였다. 합성된 코팅의 구조 및 물성을 분석하기 위해 field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), nano-indentation, atomic force microscopy(AFM) 및 ball-on-disk wear tester를 사용하였다. 내열성을 확인하기 위하여 코팅을 furnace에 넣어 500, 600, 700, 800, 900도에서 30분 동안 annealing한 후에 nano-indentation을 사용하여 경도를 측정을 하였다. 5:5, 7:3, 9:1의 두께 비율로 AlCrN/AlCrSiN 이중층 코팅을 합성하였으며 모든 코팅의 두께는 $3{\mu}m$로 제어되었다. AlCrN 코팅층의 두께가 증가할수록, 이중층 코팅의 경도 및 내마모성은 점차 향상되었지만 코팅의 밀착력은 감소하였다. 일반적으로 AlCrN 코팅은 상대적으로 높은 잔류응력을 갖고 있으므로, AlCrN 층의 두께비율이 증가함에 따라 코팅내의 잔류응력이 높아져 코팅의 경도는 증가하고 밀착특성은 낮아진 것으로 판단된다. AlCrSiN 상부층 공정시 기판 바이어스 전압을 -50 ~ -200V 로 증가시키면서 이중층 코팅을 합성하였다. XRD 분석 결과, 공정 바이어스 전압이 증가함에 따라 AlCrSiN 상부층은 점차 비정질화 되었고, 코팅의 경도와 표면 특성이 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 특성 향상은 높은 바이어스 인가가 이온 충돌효과의 증가를 야기시켰으, 이로 인해 치밀한 코팅층 합성에 의한 결과로 판단된다. AlCrN/AlCrSiN 이중층 코팅을 어닐링 한 후 경도 분석 결과, -150, -200V에서 합성한 코팅은 900도 이상에서 26GPa 이상의 높은 경도를 보인 것으로 보아 우수한 내열성을 갖는 것으로 확인 되었다. 이는 AlCrSiN 상부층의 높은 Si 함량 (11at.%) 으로 인한 충분한 $Si_3N_4$ 비정질상의 형성과, 고바이어스 인가로 인한 AlCrN 결정상과 $Si_3N_4$ 비정질상의 고른 분배가 코팅의 내열성을 향상시키는데 기여를 한 결과로 판단된다.

Effect of Al2O3 Inter-Layer Grown on FeCrAl Alloy Foam to Improve the Dispersion and Stability of NiO Catalysts (NiO 촉매의 분산성 및 안정성 향상을 위하여 FeCrAl 합금 폼 위에 성장된 Al2O3 Inter-Layer 효과)

  • NiO catalysts/$Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production was prepared using atomic layer deposition (ALD) and subsequent dip-coating methods. FeCrAl alloy foam and $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer were used as catalyst supports. To improve the dispersion and stability of NiO catalysts, an $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer was introduced and their thickness was systematically controlled to 0, 20, 50 and 80 nm using an ALD technique. The structural, chemical bonding and morphological properties (including dispersion) of the NiO catalysts/$Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy. In particular, to evaluate the stability of the NiO catalysts grown on $Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam, chronoamperometry tests were performed and then the ingredient amounts of electrolytes were analyzed via inductively coupled plasma spectrometer. We found that the introduction of $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer improved the dispersion and stability of the NiO catalysts on the supports. Thus, when an $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer with a 80 nm thickness was grown between the FeCrAl alloy foam and the NiO catalysts, it indicated improved dispersion and stability of the NiO catalysts compared to the other samples. The performance improvement can be explained by optimum thickness of $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer resulting from the role of a passivation layer.
