내경 플라즈마 용사법에 의한 과공정 Al-Si 합금의 실린더 블록 보어 개발을 위한 기초연구 (Basic Research for Development of Hypereutectic Al-Si Alloyed Cylinder Block Bore by Plasma Spraying System for Internal Diameters)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics - microstructure, hardness, adhesive strength and friction coefficient - of the coatings with aging - treatment after optimizing internal- plasma spraying parameters for Al-30wt%Si powder as a basic research to manufacture the cylinder block bore for Al engine composed of Al-30wt%Si alloy on Al alloy, The optimum internal-plasma spraying parameters of Al-30wt%Si alloy are summarized as follows: voltage: 37.5V, current: 160A, working distance: 25mm, gun traverse speed: 4.5mm/s, rotating speed: 518m/min. The primary Si particles grew aggressively with increasing heat-treating temperature. The hardness of the as-sprayed coating was about Hv=275 but this value was abruptly decreased with increasing heat-treating temperature. And average friction coefficient of the coating was below 0.08 after heat treatment for 48h at $175^{\circ}C$.

급속응고 Al-20 wt% Si 합금분말 압출재의 ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing of Rapidly Solidified Al-20 wt % Si Alloy Powder Extrudates)

  • In this paper processing and mechanical properties of Al-20 wt% Si alloy was studied. A bulk form of Al-20Si alloy was prepared by gas atomizing powders having the powder size of 106-145 ${\mu}m$ and powder extrusion. The powder extrudate was subsequently equal channel angular pressed up to 8 passes in order to refine grain and Si particle. The microstructure of the gas atomized powders, powder extrudates and equal channel angular pressed samples were investigated using a scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. The mechanical properties of the bulk sample were measured by compressive tests and a micro Victors hardness test. Equal channel angular pressing was found to be effective in matrix grain and Si particle refinement, which enhanced the strength and hardness of the Al-2OSi alloy without deteriorating ductility in the range of experimental strain of 30%.

분말야금법을 이용한 Bi-materials의 제조 (Preparation of Bi-materials by Powder Metallurgy Method)

  • The bi-materials composed of $Al-5wt{\%}Mg$ and its composite reinforced with SiC particles were prepared by ball-milling and subsequent sintering process. The size of powder in Al-Mg/SiCp mixture decreased with increasing ball-milling time, it was saturated above 30 h when the ball and powder was in the ratio of 30 to 1. Both $Al-5wt{\%}Mg$ powders mixture and $Al-5wt{\%}Mg/SiCp$ mixture were compacted under a pressure of 350MPa and were bonded by sintering at temperatures ranging from 873K to 1173K for 1-5h. At 873k, the sound bi-mate-rials could not be obtained. In contrast, the bi-materials with the macroscopically well-bonded interface were obtained at higher temperatures than 873K. The length of well-bonded interface became longer with increasing temperature and time, indicating the improved contact in the interface between unreinforced Al-Mg part and Al-Mg/SiCp composite part. The relative density in the bi-materials increased as the sintering temperature and time increased, and the bi-materials sintered at 1173K for 5h showed the highest density.

$Si_3 N_4$ 결합 SiC의 소결과 기계적 특성에 미치는 첨가제의 영향 (Effect of Additives of Sintering and Mechanical Properties of $Si_3 N_4$ Bonded SiC)

  • In this study, SiC powder and Si powder were used as the raw materials. Mixture was prepared with addition of Al2O3 and Fe2O3 at 0.1~0.5wt% respectively. After this step, the mixture was pressed and nitrided for 30 hrs at 140$0^{\circ}C$ under NH3-N2 atmosphere. Mechanical properties of sintered specimens were investigated from measurement of porosity, bulk density and three point bending test. nitration reaction extent was observed at the change of mass before and after reaction, and the microstructure and the change of $\alpha$-Si3N4 and $\beta$-Si3N4 were observed by XRD and SEM. In the current work, the results are as follows 1. When Fe2O3 added, the nitridation increased with the content of Fe2O3, and the bending strength was increased from 0.1 wt% to 0.3 wt%, and decreased to 0.5 wt%. 2. When Al2O3 added, the nitridation and the bending strength increased little by little with the content of Al2O3 3. The bending strength of the specimen added with Fe2O3 were higher than that with Al2O3. Because the specimens contained Fe2O3 had much more the whisker type crystal of Si3N4 contributing to strength than contained Al2O3.

  • Si3N4, AlN and Y2O3 powder mixtures of the Y0.1(Si, Al)12(N, O)16 composition were hot-pressed at 1900℃ for 0 to 60 min under 30 MPa in order to fabricate the partially-stabilized α-Sialon ceramics (X=0.1). Room and high temperature flexural strengths of the specimens were compared with those of Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3, Si3N4-5 wt%Y2O3-2 wt%Al2O3, and β-Sialon (Z=0.5) ceramics. The flexural strength of the α-Sialon ceramics which was hot-pressed for 15 min showed the highest value of 820 MPa at 1400℃ that is relatively higher temperature. It is guessed that a little amount of glassy phase existed in grain boundary because Y2O3 and AlN components were incoperated in Si3N4 grains, or transient liquid phase sintering, and microstructure with the smaller grain size and the interlocked grains of α'-and β-Si3N4 was obtained by the hot-pressing at high temperature of 1900℃ for the short time (15 min).

SiC-Al2O3 촉매를 이용한 CF4의 마이크로파 열분해 (Microwave Thermal Decomposition of CF4 using SiC-Al2O3)

  • Tetrafluoromethane($CF_4$) have been widely used as etching and chemical vapor deposition gases for semiconductor manufacturing processes. $CF_4$ decomposition efficiency using microwave system was carried out as a function of the microwave power, the reaction temperature, and the quantity of $Al_2O_3$ addition. High reaction temperature and addition of $Al_2O_3$ increased the $CF_4$ removal efficiencies and the $CO_2/CF_4$ ratio. When the SA30 (SiC+30wt%$Al_2O_3$) and SA50 (SiC+50wt%$Al_2O_3$) were used, complete $CF_4$ removal was achieved at $1000^{\circ}C$. The $CF_4$ was reacted with $Al_2O_3$ and by-products such as $CO_2/CF_4$ and $AlF_3$ were produced. Significant amount of by-product such as $AlF_3$ was identified by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. It also showed that the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was transformed to ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ after microwave thermal reaction.

  • 10 wt% A1$_2$O$_3$-Y$_2$O$_3$-CaO를 첨가한 SiC-30 wt% TiC 분말을 스파크 플라즈마 소결(SPS) 방법을 사용하여 급속 치밀화 하였다. SPS 공정은 매우 빠른 승온 속도와 짧은 시간에 완전 치밀한 시편을 얻을 수 있다. 본 실험에서, 승온 속도와 압력은 $100^{\circ}C$/min과 40MPa이고, 소결 온도 범위는$1600^{\circ}C$~$1800^{\circ}C$이었으며, 10min 동한 유지하였다. $Al_2$O$_3$, $Y_2$O$_3$ 및 CaO를 첨가한 SiC-30 wt% TiC 복합체는 $1700^{\circ}C$ 이상 온도에서 스파크 플라즈마 소결 방법으로 완전 치밀화가 이루어졌다. 모든 SPS 공정 온도에서 탄화큐소으 상전이나 YAG 결정상의 형성 없이 3C-SiC와 TiC 만이 XRD에서 나타났다. 급속 소결한 SiC-30 wt% TiC 복합체의 미세구조는 비교적 작은 등축상 SiC 결정립과 비교적 큰 TiC 결정립으로 구성되었다. $1750^{\circ}C$에서 제조한 시편의 이축강도능 635.2MPa이고, 파괴인성은 6.12 MPaㆍ$m^{1/2}$이었다.

Wear behavior of $Si_3N_4$-SiC nanocomposite in water

  • Silicon nitride is the most excellent materials among structural ceramics. It has been reported that fracture toughness was improved with adding second phase particles, whisker, fiber etc. However, containing of second phase particles enhanced fracture toughness, however flexural strength was degraded. As adding nanosize SiC particles into silicon nitride, the physical properties of fluxural strength, fracture toughness, the modulus of elasticity. In this study, 2wt% $Al_2$O$_3$ and 4 wt% $Y_2$O$_3$ were added into UBE E-10 and 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 vol% nano-SiC powder (Sumitomo T1 powder) were added, respectively. It is hot pressed at 185$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Most of structural ceramics for engineering application are wear resistance. In this study, wear behaviors (in water) of silicon nitride with varying the amount of nano-size silicon carbide were investigated, and was compared to physical properties. Simultaneously wear mechanism will be found out.

제천규석으로부터 제조한 $\beta$-SiC분말 및 소결체의 특성 (Properties of Powders and Sintered Bodies of $\beta$-SiC Prepared from Jecheon Quartzite)

  • ${\beta}$-SiC powders were prepared by the simultaneous reduction and carbiding of Jecheon quartzite at 1400$^{\circ}C$ for 7 hours in hydrogen atmosphere, using graphite or carbon black as the reducing and carbiding reagent. The prepared SiC powder was acid-treated with the mixture of fluoric acid and hydrochloric acid at room temperature and also by heating on an alcohol lamp for one hour, respectively. The impurities were mostly eliminated and the purity of SiC became 98.5% after hot acid treatment. The specific surface area of SiC powder was also increased up to 115㎡/g by hot acid treatment. This pure and fine SiC powder was hot-pressed at 1900$^{\circ}C$ for 30min, using 5wt% Al2O3 as a sintering aid. The density, M.O.R., KIC and hardness of the hot-pressed SiC ceramics were 3.195g/㎤, 48.7Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$, 5.4MN/㎥/2 and 2,182Kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$, respectively.

플라스마 아크 紛體肉盛法에 의한 Al 合金의 硬化厚膜 合金化層의 形成 (Formation of Thicker hard Alloy Layer on Aluminum Alloy by PTA Overlaying with Metal Powders)

  • Effect of Si metal powders addition with the plasma transferred arc(PTA) overlaying process on characteristics of the alloyed layer in aluminum alloy(A5083) has been investigated. The overlaying conditions were 175-250A in plasma arc current, 500mm/min in travel speed, the 5-20g/min in powder feeding rate. Main results obtained are summarized as follows. 1)Sufficient size of molten pool on surface of base metal was required for forming an alloyed layer; in a fixed travel, the formation of alloyed layer with clear and beautiful surface depend upon the plasma arc current and powder feeding rate; the greater plasma arc current and the smaller powder feeding rate were, the better bead was formed. Optimum alloyed conditions by which an excellent alloyed bead obtained was 225A in plasma arc current. PTA process made it possible to form an alloyed layer with up to 67wt% Si. 2)Microstructure in the alloyed layer was in accord with prediction from the Al-Si phase diagram 3)The hardness of the alloyed layer increased in proportion to Si content. 4)As volume fraction of primary Si increased, the specific wearness of the alloyed layer was significantly improved. However, no further improvement was found when the volume fraction was greater than about 30%. 5)Utilizing the PTA process, a crack free alloyed layer with maximum hardness of about Hv 310 could be obtained.
