  • This paper aims to synthesize the research on fatigue mechanisms of high strength aluminum alloys which are widely used in motorcars or airplanes to prevent accidents. To measure the data of crack opening ratio, the same materials and methods are used for evaluating the fatigue crack propagation rate as an effective stress intensity factor. But, many researchers have brought different results. An exact crack opening ratio was, therefore, proposed for getting a more accurate fatigue crack propagation rate.

  • In this paper, we analyze the security of a self-recovery fragile watermarking scheme proposed by C. Wang et al. An attack against C. Wang et al.'s scheme is demonstrated. The theoretical and experimental results show that the proposed scheme is not secure against attacks.

  • In the presented paper, the first section contains strong convergence and demiclosedness property of a sequence generated by Karakaya et al. iteration scheme in a Hilbert space for quasi-nonexpansive mappings and also the comparison between the iteration scheme given by Karakaya et al. with well-known iteration schemes for the convergence rate. The second section contains some applications of the fixed point theory in solution of different mathematical problems.

  • In this work, we focused on reducing the amount of image data to be sent by extracting and progressively sending prominent image features to high-performance computing systems taking into consideration the right amount of image data required by object identification application. We demonstrate that with our technique called Progressive Object Detection over a Lossless Network using Fragmented DCT Coefficients (Proficient), object identification applications can detect objects with at least 70% combined confidence level by using less than half of the image data.

  • In this study, the crystal characteristics of commercial AlN powders with sizes of "㎛" and "nm" were selected through XRD analysis and then sintered at different temperatures through an induction heating furnace to investigate the optimized sintering temperature and physical properties. The sintering temperature was 1,500, 1,700, and 1,900℃ in the N2 atmosphere, and the optimized sintering temperature conditions were established for the sintered AlN pellets using SEM, XRD, and Raman analysis. Additionally, impedance analysis was performed to confirm the electrical properties of the optimized AlN pellet without sintering additives.

  • Islamic Jamal al-Din zij and Chinese Shoushi-li(授時曆) are astronomical hand books compiled by Jamal al-Din(札馬魯丁) and Guo Shujing(郭守敬) of the Islamic and Chinese Astronomical Bureau in Yuan(元) China, respectively. Jamal al-Din zij is an Islamic zij based on the Almagest of Ptolemaios, while Shoushii-li is a calendrical treatise by the traditional Chinese calendar system. In case of the parallax correction method, however, both of them have a common origin from Indian astronomy in 6-7 Century. This paper examines and discusses the parallax theory and its origin adopted in Jamal al-Din zij and Shoushi-li as following: 1) Definitions of the parallax theory and parallax correction methods. 2) Similarities and origins of the parallax correction methods adopted in the Jamal al-Din zij and Shoushi-li. 3) Comparison of the parallax correction tables included in the Sanjufini zij of Tibet, the Huihui-lifa(回回曆法) of Ming(明) China and the Chiljeongsan-Oepyeon(七政算外篇) of Joseon(朝鮮) Korea. 4) Routes of the parallax theory transmitted from ancient Greece and India to Joseon via Islam world and China, respectively. 5) Astronomical exchanges and mutual influence between the East and the West.

  • Zn-Mg-Al alloy hot-dip galvanized steel sheet has high corrosion resistance. Compared to conventional Zn coating with the same coating thickness, the high corrosion resistance Zn-Mg-Al coating is more corrosion-resistant. Various coating compositions are commercially produced and applied in diverse fields. However, these steel sheets typically contain up to 3 wt% magnesium. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for higher corrosion resistance in harsh corrosive environments. Therefore, variations in Mg and Al contents were investigated while evaluating primary properties and performance. As a result, we developed new alloy-coated steel with ultra-high corrosion resistance. A Zn-5 wt%Mg-Al coated steel sheet was evaluated for its corrosion resistance and various properties. As the amount of Mg added increased, the corrosion loss tended to decrease. The corrosion resistance of the coated steel sheet in a particular composition, the Zn-5 wt%Mg-Al coating sheet, was about 1.5 to 2 times higher than that of the conventional Zn-3 wt%Mg-Al coating sheet. Ultimately, this ultra-high corrosion-resistance coated steel sheet will provide a robust solution to conserve Zn resources and contribute to a low-carbon society.

  • In recent years, Zn-Al-Mg alloy galvanized steel sheets have been widely used as coated steel sheets to support social capital in the infrastructure field. A feature of Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheets is that they provide a better corrosion protection period than Zn-coated steel sheets. In this study, the corrosion resistance of a new Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheet was investigated and compared to that of conventional commercially available coated steel sheets. The investigation confirmed that increasing the Mg concentration in the Zn-Al-Mg-coated steel sheet improved corrosion resistance, which was more than 10 times that of the galvanized steel sheet specified in JIS G 3302. The study findings also confirmed that the corrosion resistance reached more than twice that of the coated steel sheet specified in JIS G 3323. If such galvanized steel sheets are applied to social infrastructures that are exposed to severely corrosive environments, the service life of the infrastructure might be extended.
