TEM Characterization of Oxide Films Formed on Al1050 and Al7075 Alloys under Atmospheric Corrosion Conditions (대기 부식에 의해 생성된 Al1050 및 Al7075 알루미늄 합금 산화막에 대한 투과전자현미경 분석)

  • Al1050 and Al7075 alloy specimens were exposed to atmospheric conditions for maximum 12 months and analyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to characterize the early-stage corrosion behavior and thin surface oxide layers. By comparing of oxide films between Al1050 and Al7075 alloys, it is concluded that Al7075 has a relatively thicker surface oxide film than Al1050 but Al1050 has relatively more significant oxygen penetration through grain boundaries. The oxygen penetration through grain boundaries appeared to be influenced by intermetallic particles at the grain boundary. In the case of aluminum alloys, localized corrosion like pitting or intergranular corrosion should be considered as well as uniform corrosion when estimating the atmospheric corrosion rate.

Spark-Plasma Sintering of Mechanically-alloyed NiAl Powder and Ball-milled (Ni+Al) Powder Mixture (기계적합금화 NiAl 분말과 볼밀혼합된 (Ni+Al) 분말의 방전플라즈마소결)

  • Mechanically-alloyed NiAl powder and ball-milled (Ni+Al) powder mixture were sintered by spark-plasma sintering(SPS) process. Mechanical alloying was performed in a horizontal attritor for 20 h with rotation speed of 600 rpm. (Ni+Al) powder mixtures were prepared by ball milling for 1 and 10 h with 120 rpm. Both powders were sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 5 min under $10^{-3}$ torr vacuum with 50 MPa die pressure in a SPS facility. Sintered densities of 97% and 99% were obtained from mechanically-alloyed NiAl powder and (Ni+Al) powder mixture, respectively. The sintered compact of (Ni+Al) powder mixture showed large grain size by a very rapid grain growth, while the grain size of mechanically-alloyed NiAl powder compact after sintering was extremely fine(80 nm). The difference in densification behavior of both powders were discussed.

  • Cr-Al-N, Cr-Si-N 그리고 Cr-Al-Si-N 코팅막을 WC-Co 모재위에 AIP법과 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링 법을 결합한 하이브리드 시스템을 이용하여 합성하였으며, Si함량에 따른 Cr-Al-Si-N 코팅막의 미세구조, 기계적 특성과 마찰 거동에 관해 비교 연구하였다. Cr-Si-N(${\sim}35GPa$)과 Cr-Al-Si-N(${\sim}55GPa$) 코팅막의 경도값은 CrN(${\sim}23GPa$)과 Cr-Al-N(${\sim}25GPa$) 코팅막과 비교하여 각각 증가하였고, CrN(${\sim}0.50$)과 Cr-Al-N(${\sim}0.84$)의 평균 마찰계수는 Si 함량이 9 at.% 일때, Cr-Si-N(${\sim}0.30$)과 Cr-Al-Si-N(${\sim}0.57$)으로 각각 감소하였다.

  • 음극 아크 플라즈마 공정을 이용하여 증착된 AlTiN 코팅막의 공정 변화에 따른 물리적 특성 변화를 평가하였다. 또한 빗각 증착을 적용하여 제조한 AlTiN 코팅막의 특성을 평가하였다. Al-25at.%Ti 합금타겟을 음극 아크 소스에 장착하여 AlTiN 박막을 코팅하였다. 기판은 stainless steel(SUS304)과 초경(tungsten carbide; WC)을 사용하였다. 음극 아크 소스에 인가되는 전류가 낮을수록 AlTiN 코팅막 표면에 존재하는 거대입자의 밀도가 낮아졌으며, 공정 압력과 기판 전압이 높을수록 AlTiN 코팅막의 표면에 존재하는 거대입자의 밀도가 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. 코팅 공정 중 질소 유량을 변화했지만 AlTiN 코팅막의 특성은 변하지 았았다. AlTiN 코팅막 증착 시 빗각을 적용한 결과, $60^{\circ}$의 빗각을 적용한 다층 코팅막에서 약 33 GPa의 경도를 보였다. AlTiN 코팅막의 내산화성을 평가한 결과, $600^{\circ}C$이상에서 안정된 내산화성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Pure $Fe_3$Al alloys with three different compositions of Fe-21.8%Al, Fe-24.1%Al and Fe-27.2%Al were prepared by vacuum induction melting followed by homogenization and hot forging. The long-time oxidation behavior of the prepared alloys was studied at 1073, 1273 and 1473k in air. The oxidation resistance greatly increased with an increase in Al contents. Thin and uniform oxide scales were always formed on Fe-27.2%Al, while thick and fragile oxide scales were formed on Fe-(21.8, 24.1%)Al. Internal oxidation was observed in Fe-(21.8, 24.1%)Al, when oxidized above 1273K. The major oxidation product of all the oxidized alloys was always $\alpha$-$Al_2$$O_3$.

  • There has been continuing interest in the development of synthetic and natural compounds that modify the immune response particularly for the treatment of AIDS and cancer. During the past fifty years, numerous scientific studies have been published on ginseng (Foster and Chongxi, 1992). Modern human studies have investigated preventive effect of ginseng on several kinds of cancer (Yun et al, 1993,Yun, 1995,Yun and Choi, 1998), its long term immunological effect on HIV patients (Sankang, 1989, Cho et al, 1997), its effect on cell mediated immune functions in healthy volunteers (Scaglione et al, 1990). Similarly non clinical studies on animal model system have studied the chemopreventive action of ginseng on cancer (Kumar, 1993,98) and immunological properties of ginseng (Kim et al, 1990, Tomoda et al, 1993, Yun et al, 1993, Mizuno et al, 1994,Lee et al, 1997, Park et al, 2001,Yoshikawa et al, 2001, Wang et al, 2001). The precise mechanism of action of ginseng, however, not clearly understood. Considering its wide-ranging therapeutic effects, this study is being undertaken to elucidate the general mode of action of ginseng, especially to test our hypothesis that its biological action may be mediated by the immune system.

Prediction of Thermal Expansion Coefficients using the Second Phase Fraction and Void of Al-AlN Composites Manufactured by Gas Reaction Method (가스반응법으로 제작된 Al-ALN 복합재의 제 2상 분율과 기공에 따른 열팽창계수 예측)

  • The advent of highly integrated, high-power electronics requires low a coefficient of thermal expansion performance to prevent delamination between the heat dissipation material and substrate. This paper reports a preliminary study on the manufacturing technology of gas reaction control composite material, focusing on the prediction of the thermal expansion coefficients of Al-AlN composite materials. We obtained numerical equivalent property values by using finite element analysis and compared the values with theoretical formulas. Al-AlN should become the optimal composite material when the proportion of the reinforcing phase is approximately 0.45.

Dielectric Characteristics of the ${Ta_2}{O_5}/{Al_2}{O_3}$ Multilayer Thin Films Processed by Reactive Sputtering (반응성 스퍼터링으로 제조한 ${Ta_2}{O_5}/{Al_2}{O_3}$ 다충박막의 유전특성)

  • Dielectric properties and leakage current characteristics of 100 nm-thick $Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3$multilayer thin films, which were fabricated by reactive sputtering of$Al_2O_3$and$Ta_2O_5$ successively on top of each other for total 9 layers, have been investigated with variation of the$Al_2O_3$content$(i.e,\;Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3 \;thickness\;ratio)$.$Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3$films were amorphous regardless of the$Al_2O_3$content. With increasing the$Al_2O_3$content from 0% to 100%, refractive index of the $Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3$films decreased linearly from 2.03 to 1.56 and dielectric constant was lowered from 23.9 to 7.7 Variation of the dielectric constant with the$Al_2O_3$content was in good agreement with the behavior that was obtained by assuming parallel capacitors of$Al_2O_3$and Ta_2O_5$. Leakage current characteristics of $Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3$ multilayer films were superior to those of $Ta_2O_5$ and$Al_2O_3$films. $Ta_2O_5/Al_2O_3$ films of 5% and 10%$Al_2O_3$content exhibited excellent leakage current densities which were lower than $10^{-7} A/cm^2$ at 1MV/cm.

Mechanical Properties and Solid Lubricant Wear Behavior of MMCs Reinforced with a Hybrid of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ and Carbon Short Fibers (알루미나와 탄소단섬유를 혼합한 금속복합재료의 기계적 성질과 고체윤활 마모거동)

  • Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C hybrid metal matrix composites are fabricated by the direct squeeze infiltration method. From the microstructure of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites, uniform distribution of reinforcements and good bondings are found. Optimum processing conditions for preforms and squeeze castings are suggested. Mechanical properties, such as elastic modulus, elongation, 0.2% offset yield strength and ultimate tensile strength are obtained. Through the abrasive were test and wear surface analsis, wear behavior and its mechanism of AC2B aluminum and Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites can be characterized under various sliding speed conditions. Tensile strenght elongation of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites are decreased with increasing the addition of carbon fiber. On the contrary, elastic modulus of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites is slightly improved compared with that of the unreinforced matrix alloy. The addition of carbon fiber to al/al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites gives rise to improvement of the wear resistance. Specially, carbon chopped fibers play an important role in interfering sticking between the counter material and metal matirix composites. Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites are suitable to high speed due to solid lubication of carbon. And wear model of Al/Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$/C composites is suggested by the examination of worn surfaces.

Micro-Structural Study of Al/Ni Nano-Multilayer Foils by Intermixing Criteria (혼합 기준을 달리한 Al/Ni 나노 멀티 포일의 미세구조에 대한 연구)

  • Al/Ni 나노 멀티 포일은 상온에서 외부 방전 및 촉발에 따라 급속한 자기 발열 반응이 일어나는 특성을 보여, 외부 촉발을 통해 상온에서 온도를 높일 수 없는 접합이나 마이크로 수준의 미세 접합이 가능한 접합재료로서 활용이 상당히 기대되는 재료이다. 본 연구에서는 스퍼터링법을 이용하여 한 층이 20 nm 이하에서 Al과 Ni의 혼합 기준을 달리한 Al/Ni 나노 멀티 900층을 제조와 제조된 반응성 포일이 자기 발열 반응에 따른 미세구조에 대해 조사하였다. 박막의 증착은 3~10 mTorr의 공정압력 으로 Al 타겟 전류 1.7 A, Ni 타겟 전류 1.4 A로 하여 증착시간을 조절하여 제조하였다. SEM과 EDX를 통하여 Al/Ni 나노 멀티 포일의 성장구조와 각 원소의 함량을 조사하였다. XRD 미세결정구조 분석은 제조된 반응성 포일과 외부 촉발시킨 후 자기 발열 반응에 의해 형성되는 혼합 상에 대한 조사를 실시하였다. 혼합기준이 1:1의 Al/Ni 나노 멀티 포일에서 약 $980^{\circ}C$의 발열이 발생하는 것을 Pyrometer를 통해 측정하였으며, 자기 발열 반응 후의 혼합 상은 AlNi이 형성되었다. Ni rich 포일에서는 약 $730^{\circ}C$의 발열이 발생하였고, 혼합상으로 주로 AlNi이 형성되었고 Al3Ni2도 나타났으며, 반응에 참여하지 못한 Ni이 남아있는 것을 관찰하였다. Al rich 포일에서는 약 $720^{\circ}C$의 발열과 함께 AlNi, $AlNi_3$이 형성되었고 반응에 참여하지 못한 Al이 미세하게 나타났다.
