  • Manned-unmanned teaming can be a very promising air-to-air combat tactic since it can maximize the advantage of combining human insight with the robustness of the machine. The rapid advances in artificial intelligence and autonomous control technology will speed up the development of manned-unmanned teaming air-to-air combat system. In this paper, we introduce a manned-unmanned teaming air-to-air combat tactic which is composed of a manned aircraft and an UAV. In this tactic, a manned aircraft equipped with radar is functioning both as a sensor to detect the hostile aircraft and as a controller to direct the UAV to engage the hostile aircraft. The UAV equipped with missiles is functioning as an actor to engage the hostile aircraft. We also developed a combat scenario of executing this tactic where the manned-unmanned teaming is engaging a hostile aircraft. The hostile aircraft is equipped with both missiles and radar. To demonstrate the efficiency of the tactic, we run the simulation of the scenario of the tactic. Using the simulation, we found the optimal formation and maneuver for the manned-unmanned teaming where the manned-unmanned teaming can survive while the hostile aircraft is shot-downed. The result of this study can provide an insight to how manned aircraft can collaborate with UAV to carry out air-to-air combat missions.

UML Sequence Diagram을 활용한 공대공 교전 전술 명세 (The Specification of Air-to-Air Combat Tactics Using UML Sequence Diagram)

  • Air force air-to-air combat tactics are occurring at a high speed in three-dimensional space. The specification of the tactics requires dealing with a quite amount of information, which makes it a challenge to accurately describe the maneuvering procedure of the tactics. The specification of air-to-air tactics using natural languages is not suitable because of the intrinsic ambiguity of natural languages. Therefore, this paper proposes an approach of using UML Sequence Diagram to describe air-to-air combat tactics. Since the current Sequence Diagram notation is not sufficient to express all aspects of the tactics, we extend the syntax of the Sequence Diagram to accommodate the required features of air-to-air combat tactics. We evaluate the applicability of the extended Sequence Diagram to air-to-air combat tactics using a case example, that is the manned-unmanned teaming combat tactic. The result shows that Sequence Diagram specification is more advantageous than natural language specification in terms of readability, conciseness, and accuracy. However, the expressiveness of the Sequence Diagram is evaluated to be less powerful than natural language, requiring further study to address this issue.

  • A differential game theory based approach is used to develop an automated maneuver generation algorithm for Within Visual Range (WVR) air-to-air combat of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs). The algorithm follows hierarchical decisionmaking structure and performs scoring function matrix calculation based on differential game theory to find the optimal maneuvers against dynamic and challenging combat situation. The score, implying how much air superiority the UCAV has, is computed from the predicted relative geometry, relative distance and velocity of two aircrafts. Security strategy is applied at the decision-making step. Additionally, a barrier function is implemented to keep the airplanes above the altitude lower bound. To shorten the simulation time to make the algorithm more real-time, a moving horizon method is implemented. An F-16 pseudo 6-DOF model is used for realistic simulation. The combat maneuver generation algorithm is verified through three dimensional simulations.

  • A computer software system which enables to assess the air combat performance only by a computer is currently under development. The system is composed with plural aircraft models, missile models, bullet models etc. The aircraft can implement several empirical air combat maneuvers automatically depending on the situation , therefore air combat simulations and assessment can be attained. Some of these maneuvers and features are explained.

  • The warship is run based on the combat system which shares tactical information collected by target detection systems and navigation devices across a network, and conducts the command and control of weapons from target detection to kill assessment. The short-range air defense missile system defends a warship from anti-ship missiles, aircraft, helicopter and other threats in order to contribute to the survival of a warship and the success of missions. The short-range air defense missile system is applied to a various combat systems. In this paper, we have proposed the interface design between the short-range air defense missile and dissimilar combat systems. To employ the short-range air defense missile at dissimilar combat systems, each system is driven by independent processor, and the tasks which are performed by each system are assigned. The information created by them is exchanged through the interface, and the flow of messages is designed.

  • 과거의 무기체계는 체계의 목적과 비용 등의 문제로 운용환경에 대한 관심이 부족하였으며, 특히 냉방장치가 미탑제된 체계가 많이 개발되었다. 근래 개발되는 무기체계는 고도의 정밀조준 및 고감도 시스템으로 진화함에 따라 무기체계를 효과적으로 제어하기 위하여 운용자의 운용환경도 중요한 요소로 대두되고 있다. 현재의 무기개발자들은 대부분 통합형 환경제어장치를 장착하도록 설계하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 장갑차량의 운용환경 및 설계조건을 바탕으로 한국군의 운용환경에 적합한 냉방기 및 냉방 부하를 검토하고 시제품의 냉방성능 시험결과가 목표성능에 미달되어 이에 대해 개선내용 및 검토결과를 기술하였다.

  • The Gun-Oreinted Anti-Air Warfare(GOAAW) which is still one of the important weapon systems of the vessel like the patrol killer to confront air threats comprises the components of the combat system - Command & Control(C2), Ballistic Calculation Unit, Sensors and Guns. In this paper, the GOAAW process of the patrol killer combat system is analyzed with probability and simulated to evaluate the effectiveness and capability of the GOAAW. As a result of the simulation, the performance measures of the GOAAW are discussed in the functional and operational aspects of the combat system.

육군 방공자동화체계 전투효과 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of Combat Effectiveness of the Army C2A System)

  • This paper develops a methodology which can be used to quantify the combat effectiveness of the army C2A system by modifying C2 theory and using Air Defense Engagement Simulation. In this paper, by using Schutzer's C2 theory and Measures of Effectiveness, we modified the MOE formula he designed. Because the combat effectiveness by enhancement of C2(Command and Control) system will increase combat power of individual asset independently. In addition, we developed simulation analysis of air defense scenario by using Air Defense Engagement Simulation. The results show that modified the MOE formula is proper as compared with Air Defense Engagement Simulation method. The combat effectiveness can be obtained as a result of improved probability of detection and information accuracy through real-time information sharing and coordination by C2A system.

  • 과거의 무기체계는 체계의 목적과 비용 등의 문제로 운용환경에 대한 관심이 부족하여 특히 냉방장치가 탑재되지 않은 체계가 많이 개발되었다. 근래 개발되는 무기체계는 고도의 정밀조준 및 고감도 시스템으로 진화함에 따라 무기체계를 효과적으로 제어하기 위하여 운용자의 운용환경도 중요한 요소로 대두되고 있다. 현재의 무기개발자들은 대부분 통합형 환경제어장치를 장착하도록 설계하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기 개발된 내부 탄통을 가진 대공포 장갑차에서, 포탑이 회전을 하더라도 효율적으로 차가운 냉기를 전달할 수 있게 하기 위해 드럼바스켓 해석 및 시험을 통해 냉방개선 방안을 도출하고 결과를 실제 장비에 적용하였다.

  • 최신의 전투장갑차들은 통합형 공조장치를 선호하는 경향이 있음에도 불구하고 분리형 공조장치에 대한 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 특수목적용 장갑차량 및 군용규격이 요구되는 장갑차량의 냉방, 난방장치에 대한 연구로 상용 Fluent 를 이용한 유동해석을 통해 덕트 및 최적화 배치를 구현하였으며 실차을 통한 시험 수행으로 해석결과를 검증하고, 선정된 냉방 및 난방기의 유효성을 확인하였다. 기존 차량의 변경 모델이나 계열차량의 경우, 현재 선정된 모델의 부분 변경으로 가능하며, 차륜형 장갑차용으로 선정된 현재 모델의 유효성을 본 연구를 통해서 입증되었다.
