The influence of land-use type on surrounding temperature was studied the relationships between land-use types and the air condition analyzing AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data of Seoul from KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration). The distribution of air temperature by land-use type has been influenced by the different heating and cooling rates. The difference of heating rates depending on the land-use type was largest at 2~3hours after sunrise and the difference of cooling rates was largest from 2hours before sunset to 2hours after sunset with its maximum at sunset. The difference of cooling rates is greatest in a clear and calm weather situation and the large difference in cooling rates between the green areas and built-up area is up to $1.5^{\circ}C/h$. By season, the difference of cooling rates is largest in fall and in turn spring, winter and summer. In a cloudy or rainy day, the difference in heating and cooling rates on land-use type is not distinct but the tendency is similar to a clear day. In all seasons, the rate of difference occurrence of the daily range of temperature between the green areas and built-up area was large, especially fall. In a fall with a clear and calm day, the magnitude of the daily range of temperature between the green areas and built-up area was largest.
Purpose: Recently, domestic and abroad consumption of mushroom has been increasing. Especially, oyster mushroom has been the most consumed product, sharing one third of the mushroom market. The air temperature differences between relative positions of the mushroom farms were needs to be minimal. However, in reality, the air temperature differences ranged from 2 to $5^{\circ}C$. Because of this, the mushrooms are non-uniform growth as well as decrease in both quality and quantity. Although air circulators have been employed by oyster mushroom farms to minimize air temperature differences, no experiments have been performed to illustrate the effect of the air circulators. Methods: This experiment is designed to analyze the effect of the air circulation by constructing a prototype air circulator and measuring the air temperature when the circulator was position at different heights (50 cm, 150 cm, 200 cm) from the floor in the center. Result: The horizontal plane air temperature of the first growing bed when the air circulator was installed 50cm above the floor in the center, once not using the air circulators and the other time using the air circulators, yielded the air temperature differences of $8.6^{\circ}C$ and $1.8^{\circ}C$ and deviations of 2.82 and 0.60, respectively. The third growing bed's air temperature differences were $10.0^{\circ}C$, $1.6^{\circ}C$ and deviations 3.28, 0.64, each respectively. These outcomes proved that the use of air circulators minimized the air temperature difference and deviation. The use of air circulators helped minimize the air temperature differences and the derivations in oyster mushroom farm. Conclusion: The use of air circulators helped balance the air temperature distribution in oyster mushroom farm.
The air temperature-reducing effects by irrigation reservoir in urban area was investigated at Ilwol Pond (IWP). Air temperature and humidity data were observed at 10minute interval from September 1th, 2008 to August 31th, 2009. Air temperature of IWP and Sumsung Apartment (SAT) were analyzed to examine air temperature-reducing effects by IWP in terms of diurnal and seasonal variation. As a result, the average air temperature difference between IWP and SAT was $0.6^{\circ}C$ and the nighttime shows more air temperature-reducing effects. The dominant air temperature-reducing effects by IWP occurred at fall night and summer daytime. However, the air temperature-reducing effects by IWP is lower to that by Arboretum (ARB).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish conditions to dry a radish by examining the drying and quality characteristics depending on the air temperature and velocity of a far infrared conveyor dryer. Methods: A sample of weighing 6 kg was dried until the moisture content reached $15{\pm}0.5%$ (w.b.). Four temperatures (50, 60, 70, and $80^{\circ}C$) and three air velocity levels (0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 m/s) were employed as the drying factors. Results: The drying rate increased with the increase in the temperature and air velocity but decreased with time. However, the drying rate was influenced by temperature rather than velocity. At a temperature $50^{\circ}C$ with a air velocity of 0.4 m/s, it took 350 min for the radish to dry which was the longest drying time; $80^{\circ}C$ with a air velocity of 0.8m/s, it took 180 min for the radish to dry, which was the shortest drying time. ${\Delta}E$ (the color difference value) increased with the increase in temperature and air velocity. The browning and rehydration ratio increased as the temperature rose. Energy consumption decreased with the increased temperature and air velocity. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, the best drying conditions for the radish were determined to be a temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ with an air velocity of 0.8 m/s.
When ship blocks are erected or pre-erected, most blocks will be at outdoors where they are not protected from weather and exposed to ray of the sun. A deck plate compared to those in radiation heat transfer from the sun will have higher temperature than it of ambient air, and will expand more than lower laying structures whose temperatures are similar with air. But deck plates and under-structures are connected, so the deck plate will be under out-of-plane deformation rather than expand in length. In this study, we considered the temperature difference between air and plate as a major parameter of out-of-plane deformation, and analyzed how much additional deformation would take place. In addition, when a deformation could take place was also analyzed based on the initial deformed shape of deck plate. Because the accuracy inspections of deck plate will be done during daytime, conventional accuracy check results on sunny day could make us feel unfair. Thus resonable datum about momentary additional out-of-plane deformation due to environmental effects have been determined. The real deformation values can be specified even under enlarged deformations by radiation-expansion.
This study was worked out to obtain fundamental data needed for developing a continuous type dryer. The drying process in a cross-flow type continuous dryer was expressed as partial differential equations, and a drying simulation model for predicting rice moisture content, rice temperature, drying air absolute humidity, drying air temperature was developed by using the finite difference method. To validate the performance of the drying simulation model, a prototype continuous dryer was constructed in this study. The size of the test dryer was one-tenth to that of a commercial continuous dryer. The difference in the outlet rice moisture content between the predicted values and the measured values was within 0.5%, that of outlet rice temperature was below $3^{\circ}C$, that of drying air temperature in drying bed was within $8^{\circ}C$ and that of relative humidity of outlet drying air was big because of the different measuring point. In addition, a drying simulation model for a actual size continuous dryer with double flow was developed in this study. This drying simulation model included the rice mixing effect in the middle of drying length. The difference of outlet moisture content between the predicted and the measured values showed below 0.5% in this study.
Design analysis of the solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine combined power system is performed considering different methods for preheating cell inlet air. The purpose of air preheating is to keep the temperature difference between cell inlet and outlet within a practical design range thus to reduce thermal stress inside the cell. Three different methods considered are (1) adopting a burner in front of the cell, (2) adopting a preheater (heat transfer from the main combustor) in front of the cell and (3) using recirculation of the cathode exit gas. For each configuration, analyses are carried out for two values of allowable maximum cell temperature difference. Performance characteristics of all cases are compared and design limitations are discussed. Relaxation of the cell temperature difference (larger difference) is proved to ensure higher efficiency. Recirculation of the cathode exit gas exhibits better performance than other methods and this advantage becomes more prominent as the constraint of the cell temperature difference becomes more severe (smaller temperature difference).
Air and flue gas temperature distributions in the space heater for greenhouse were measured to develop a thermal design technology for the space heater. Also, the characteristics of the fan supplying air to the space heater were investigated. The temperature of the flue gas inside the flue gas tube was linearly decreased as the lenght of than those of the flue gas with the oxygen concentration of 8.25% at the last exit of the second flue gas tube. Thus, the operating efficiency of the space heater could be increased with low air ratio decreased exhausting gas temperature and saved the energy consumption with decreased excess air flow. The temperature of the air supplied by fan was increased slowly around the first flue gas tube, meanwhile, increased sharply around the second flue gas tube due to large LMTD (Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference) at the first flue gas tube than which of the second flue gas tube.
In the summer, the irradiated solar heat gain through the roof has an effect on the thermal environment of the top floor units of apartment houses. This paper investigated the differences of the indoor air temperature, globe temperature and thermal comfort index between the top floor unit and the middle floor unit by measuring them at the sample units on the condition that all the openings of the units are opened. The purpose of this paper is to provide quantitative data about the irradiated solar heat gain during the summertime through the roof of an apartment house and these data to be the source to reevaluate the appropriate roof insulation efficiency. From this study, we obtained three brief results as follows. Indoor air temperature difference between the two sample units shifts a day. Indoor air temperature at the top floor unit is $0{\sim}1.8^{\circ}C$ higher than that of the middle floor unit from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and $0{\sim}2.8^{\circ}C$ lower from 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The evaluation of the indoor thermal comfort index and the globe temperature shows similar results as the indoor air temperature measuring. Results of this experiment verified the actual existence of indoor air temperature difference between the top floor unit and the middle one and this difference comes from the heat storage of the roof.
Confined natural convection due to lateral temperature difference in rectangular enclosures was studied numerically and experimentally for the insulated and the constant temperature enclosures. In the case of insulated enclosure, the flow pattern and heat transfer modes are rather simple depending mainly upon Rayleigh number. In the case of isothermal enclosure, however, the phenomena of flow and heat transfer are somewhat complex and interesting due to the stable thermal gradients and various circumstances resulted from four wall temperature conditions. As a dimensionless variable, to describe properly the flow and heat transfer phenomena in the isothermal enclosure, temperature difference ratio ${\Delta}T_v/{\Delta}T_H$ is newly introduced and this parameter seems to be appropriate in the analysis of results on the effect of stabilizing thermal gradient.
