The feature of six existing condensation heat transfer correlations for microfin tubes were evaluated with the consideration of vapor quality, mass flux, geometries, and various refrigerants. The Kosky and Staub [15] and the Jaster and Kosky [16] correlations for smooth tube were used for the evaluation of the heat transfer enhancement factor (EF). For the prediction of zeotropic mixtures, most correlations show discrepancy with previous measurements. The Yu and Koyama [4] and the Shikazono et al. [8] correlations do not consider spiral angle effect. The Han and Lee [10] correlation shows fin height growth deteriorates heat transfer. Experimental verification to develop reliable condensation heat transfer correlation for microfin tubes is still needed with the consideration of geometrical effects and working conditions.

An experimental study was performed to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer in a vertical type fluidized bed shell-and-tube type heat exchanger with corrugated tube. Seven different solid particles having the same volume were circulated in the heat of exchanger. The effects of various parameters such as water flow rates, particle geometries, materials, and corrugated tube geometries were investigated. The present work showed that the higher thermal capacities of materials and the geometries closer to the spherical one have higher heat transfer performances. In addition, heat transfer coefficients in the corrugated tubes were a little higher than those in the smooth tubes.

Air-line mask is an important personal protective equipment for workers working under hazardous surroundings in which a fixed ventilation system is difficult to be installed. If the air-line mask make loud noise, works wearing the mask may be faced with health problems such as noise induced hearing loss(NIHL). The purpose of this study is to introduce a low noisy technology for workers using air-line mask. A traditional type air-line has been improved to an advanced air-line mask with lesser noise. In the mask, air suppling conduits consists of multi tubes are placed inside of the front of the safety helmet. The noise level reduced from 80dB(A) to less than 80dB(A) when measured by KS A 0701 method at Center for Safety Inspection, Testing and Certification for KOSHA. It is suitable for related regulation[Article 35 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act(Test of Personal Protective Equipment)]. While workers working in noise level of over 90dB(A), they may expose to 82dB(A) or less when they wear the advanced masks. This type masks can be an alternative for works suffering from loud noise generated by traditional air-line masks.

Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of R22, R134a, R407C, and R410A were measured on horizontal plain and microfin tubes. The experimental apparatus was composed of three main parts; a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water/glycol loop. The test section in the refrigerant loop was made of both a plain and a microfin copper tube of 6.0∼6.16 mm inside diameter and 1.0 m length. Refrigerants were cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. Tests were performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100, 200, and 300 kg/m2s. Test results showed that at similar mass flux the flow condensation HTCs of R134a were similar to those of R22 for both plain and microfin tubes. On the other hand, HTCs of R407C were lower than those of R22 by 4∼16% and 16∼42% for plain and microfin tubes respectively. And HTCs of R410A were similar to those of R22 for a plain tube but lower than those of R22 by 3∼9% for a microfin tube. Heat transfer enhancement factors of a microfin tube were 1.3∼1.9.
The temperature on steel structures is larger than the ambient air temperature under solar radiation and the temperature distribution on the affected structure is non-uniform and complicated. The steel tube, as a main structural member, has been investigated through experiment and numerical analysis. In this study, the temperature distribution on a properly designed steel tube under solar radiation is measured. A finite element transient thermal analysis method is presented and verified by the experimental results and a series of parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of various geometric properties and orientation on the temperature distribution. Furthermore, a simplified approach is proposed to predict the temperature distribution of steel tube. Based on both the experimental and the numerical results, it is concluded that the solar radiation has a significant effect on the temperature distribution of steel tubes. Under the solar radiation, the temperature of steel tubes is about $20.6^{\circ}C$ higher than the ambient air temperature. The temperature distribution of steel tubes is sensitive to the steel solar radiation absorption, steel tube diameter and orientation, but insensitive to the solar radiation reflectance and thickness of steel tube.
Experimental investigation on two-phase flow boiling heat transfer of R-410A and R-134a in horizontal small tubes is reported. The pressure drop and local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over heat flux range of 5 to $40\;kW/m^2$, mass flux range of 70 to $600\;kg/m^2s$, saturation temperature range of 2 to $12^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0 in test section with inner tube diameters of 3.0 and 0.5 mm, and lengths of 2000 and 330 mm, respectively. The section was heated uniformly by applying a direct electric current to the tubes. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, and inner tube diameter, on pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient are presented. The experimental results are compared against several existing correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for refrigerants in small tubes is developed.

This research was concerned with the enhancement of heat transfer by surfactant added to the aqueous solution of LiBr. Different vertical tubes were tested with and without an additive of normal octyl alcohol. The test tubes are a bare inner surface. a groove inner surface, a corrugated inner surface and a spring inserted inner surface tubes. The additive concentration was about 0.08 mass%. The heat transfer coefficient was measured as a function of the film Reynolds number in the range of 20~200. Experiments were carried out at higher cooling water temperature of $35^{\circ}C$ to simulate an air cooling condition for several kinds of absorber testing tubes. The experimental results were compared with and without surfactant. The enhancement of heat transfer by Marangoni convection effect which was generated by addition of the surfactant is observed in each test tube. Especially, it is clarified that the tube with an inserted spring has the highest enhancement effect.

Pool boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of HCFC123, HFC134a, HCFC22, HFC407C, HFC410A and HFC32 wre measured on a horizontal smooth tube, 26 fpi low fin tube, Turbo-B and Thermoexcel-E enhanced tubes. AN experimental apparatus was designed such that all tubes heated by cartridge heaters could be installed at the same time to save the refrigerant. Data were taken in the pool of $7^{\circ}C$ with the heat flux decreasing from 80 kW/$m^2\;to\;5kW/m^2$. Test results showed that HTCs of pure refrigerants and those of a azeotrope were greatly influenced by reduced pressure. HTCs of HFC407C were 21~25% lower than those of HCFC22 due to mass transfer resistance. For all refrigerants, enhanced tubes with sub-surface and sub-tunnels showed the largest heat transfer enhancement. Especially the largest heat enhancement was obtained for HCFC123 whose reduced pressure is the lowest among al the refrigerants tested. This indicates that either Turbo-B or Thermoexcel-E enhanced tube would be the best choice when used with a low vapor pressure refrigerant.
Two-phase flow boiling heat transfer of R-410A in horizontal small tubes was reported in the present experimental study. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 5 to 40 kW/$m^2$, a mass flux range of 170 to 600 kg/$m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 3 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The test section was made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 0.5 and 3.0 mm, and lengths of 330 and 3000 mm, respectively. The section was heated uniformly by applying a direct electric current to the tubes. The effects on heat transfer of mass flux, heat flux, inner tube diameter, and saturation temperature were presented. The experimental heat transfer coefficient is compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for R-410A in small tubes was developed with mean deviation of 10.13%.

In this study, condensation heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of a plain tube, low fin tube, and Turbo-C enhanced tube for CFC-11, HCFC-123, CFC-12, HFC-l34a are measured and compared against each other. All data are taken at the vapor temperature of 39$^{\circ}C$ with a wall subcooling temperature 3~8$^{\circ}C$. Test results show that HTCs of a low vapor pressure refrigerant, HFC-123, for a plain, low fin, and Turbo-C tubes are 10.5~20.5%, 8.2~12.2%, 16.5~19.2% lower than those of CFC-11, respectively. On the other hand, HTCs of a medium vapor refrigerant, HFC-l34a, for a plain, low fin, and Turbo-C tubes are 20.6~31.8%, 0.0~8.0%, 13.2~20.9% higher than those of CFC-12, respectively. For all refrigerants tested, HTCs of Turbo-C tube are the highest among the three tubes showing almost 8 times increase in HTCs as compared to those of a plain tube. Nusselt's prediction equation for a plain tube yielded 12% deviation for all plain tube data while Realty and Katz's prediction equation for a low fin tube yielded 20% deviation for all low tube data.
