Dry Separation of PVC Film from Plastic Film Mixture by Using Air Table

  • This study was conducted in order to remove Poly vinyl chloride(PVC) from the waste plastic film mixture. The fittings of Air Table was modified to increase the separation efficiency of PVC and PE(poly ethylene). PE and PVC was successfully separated from PVC-PE film mixture with the yield of PE 90% or more and with his grade of 99% or more, using the improved Air Table. The details of the separation condition and results will be discussed in this paper. Dry separation, Waste plastic film, PVC, Air Table.   • The air separation of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and PS(Polystyrene) was carried out by taking advantage of the different abrasive resistance of two plastics. PET bottles and PS packages were shredded to small square pieces $(5{\times}5mm)$. Both plastic shreds were treated by a shear-type crusher. The PET shreds were bent and twisted by the crush so that they were blown up easily, but the PS shreds were not. After the crush of mixture of both plastics, air separation experiments were carried out using four types of air separators. The number and location of the baffle attached to them are different. With the separator with a baffle attached at the upper part, PET recoveries for the crushing time of 30, 60 and 90sec were 67, 98 and 99% respectably at the air flow rate of 3.5m/s, whereas PS recoveries were null regardless of the crushing time.

  • This study is undertaken to evaluate the characteristics of cross contamination around exterior air-vents. A CFD analysis has been performed to calculate the cross contamination index for five exterior air-vents sizes according to the outdoor air velocity and separation distance of it. From the result of the numerical method, As the outdoor air velocity is increased, the cross contamination index is increased. on the contrary, as the separation distance of exterior air-vents is increased, the cross contamination index is decreased, additionally the cross contamination is affected by the aspect ratio of the size of exterior Air-vents.

廢自動車 ASR의 風力 및 比中選別에 의한 處理 硏究 (Treatment of ASR from End-of-Life Vehicles by Air and Gravimetric Separation)

  • 폐자동차 ASR으로부터 염소성분을 제거하기 위하여 풍력선별 및 비중선별 실험을 수행하였다. 또한, ASR플라스틱만을 분리하여 물을 매체로 한 비중선별을 실시하였다. ASR 시료는 모두 8 mm이하로 재분쇄하여 선별실험에 사용하였으며, 플라스틱은 3가지 입도로 나누어 비중선별 실험을 하였다. 풍력선별은 공기유량 9~20 M$^3$/hr 범위의 1단계와 공기유량 25~34 M$^3$/hr 범위의 2단계로 나누어 실시하고 각 산물의 비율과 재질분포를 조사하였다. 1단계 풍력선별후 underflow 산물의 비율은 62~66%인 것으로 나타났으며, 공기유량이 큰 2단계 풍력선별에서는 overflow 산물의 비율이 크게 증가하였다. 폐플라스틱만을 대상으로 한 비중선별 실험결과 부유물질이 침강물질에 비해 다소 많게 나타났으며, 염소함량에 있어서는 최대 수백개의 염소함량 차이를 보여 순수 플라스틱의 경우 매우 우수한 염소함유 재질의 분리효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • The feasibility of foam separation to remove protein in aquacultural recirculating water was investigated. From the results of batch foam separation on protein removal, superficial air velocity and initial protein concentration in bulk solution were found to be important operational factors In determining removal rates of protein. The protein removal rate by batch foam separation was proportionally increased with the superficial air velocity. Performance characteristics of continous foam separator were highly dependent upon the operating parameters of superficial air velocity, hydraulic retention time(HRT) and foam height. Removal effeciency of protein increases with increasing superficial air velocity and HRT, and independent on foam height. As DO concentration was increased with superficial air velocity, foam separator is also used for oxygen addition. It could be confinned that foam separator might offer better perspective for protein removal in aquacuitural recirculating water.

소수성 PTFE 막의 산소동위원소 분리특성 (Separation Characteristics of Oxygen Isotopes with Hydrophobic PTFE Membranes)

  • 본 연구에서는 소수성 PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) 분리막의 산소동위원소 분리특성을 확인하기 위해 물의 온도에 따른 수증기의 막 투과특성을 Air Cap Membrane Distillation (AGMD)과 Vacuum Enhanced Membrane Distillation (VEMD) 방법을 이용하여 각각 측정하였다. 투과된 수증기는 트랩에서 수거하여 투과플럭스 (permeation flux)를 측정하였고$ H_2^{16}O$$H_2^{18}O$의 성분비는 다이오드 레이저 흡수분광법을 이용하여 측정하였다. 분리막을 투과한 수증기에서 무거운 산소동위원소의 성분비가 감소함을 확인하였고 분리계수는 실험 조건에 따라 1.004~1.01로 측정되었다. 또한 분리막의 기공에 있는 공기가 산소동위원소의 분리에 미치는 영향을 확인하였고 기공내 공기가 없을 때 동위원소 분리계수가 증가함을 관찰하였다.

  • Electric vehicle ownership is expanding for two reasons: its technology features have enhanced fuel economy, and the number of vehicle emissions regulations is increasing. Battery performance has a large influence on the capability of electric vehicles, and even though battery thermal management has been actively researched, specific technological improvements to battery performance are not being presented. For instance, many industrial applications utilize vortex tubes as components for refrigeration machines because of their numerous intrinsic benefits. If electric vehicles incorporate vortex tubes for battery cooling, performance and efficiency advancements are possible. This study uses a counter-flow vortex tube to investigate its temperature separation characteristics, based on the back pressure of the cold air exit and the difference between the inlet and back pressures. The experiment uses a vortex tube with the following parameters: six nozzle holes, a 20 mm inner vortex diameter (D), a 14D tube length, a 0.7D cold exit orifice diameter, and a nozzle area ratio of 0.142. The measurements prove that the temperature difference between the hot air and cold air decreased because of the flow resistance of the hot air and the backflow phenomenon at the cold air exit. The flow resistance causes the temperature difference to decrease, and the back pressure of the cold air exit influences the flow resistance. The results show that the back pressure significantly influences the efficiency of temperature separation.

Store Separation Analysis of a Fighter Aircraft's External Fuel Tank

  • The repetitive vibrating action of an aerodynamic load causes an external fuel tank's horizontal fin to experience a shorter life cycle than its originally predicted one. Store separation analysis is needed to redesign the fin of an external fuel tank. In this research, free-drop tests were conducted using 15% scaled models in a subsonic wind tunnel in order to analyze the store separation characteristics of an external fuel tank. The store separation trajectory based on grid tests was also obtained to verify the results of the free-drop tests. The results acquired from the free-drop tests correlated well with the grid tests in regards to the trajectories and behavior of the stores separated from the aircraft. This agreement was especially noted in the early stages of the store separation.

  • Cryogenic air separation unit(ASU) was developed about 100 year ago in Europe. However, because there is not any ability of process design or manufacturing of ASU in Korea, many ASUs come from advanced countries every year. The purpose of this study is the development of cryogenic air separation unit by our own ability, especially cold box for nitrogen production. On this study, we developed the computer program for physical properties of gases and process simulation. We also did process design and manufactured of cold box, including air separation column, liquid air heat exchanger and condenser. The result of cold box test was successful.

보텍스튜브의 노즐홀수가 에너지분리에 미치는 영향 (The effect of the number of nozzle holes on the energy separation)

  • The vortex tube is a sample device for separating a compressed gaseous fluid stream into two flows of high and low temperature without any chemical reactions. The phenomena of energy separation through the vortex tube were investigated experimentally, to see the effects of the number of nozzle holes on the energy separation. The experiment was carried out with the number of nozzle holes from 1 to 10 by varying inlet pressure and cold mass fraction. The experimental results were indicated that the effective number of nozzle holes for the best cooling performance was found as 4. Also, to find effective use in a given operation conditions, the temperature difference of cold air and the cooling capacity of vortex tube was compared. The result is that cooling capacity was more important than temperature difference of cold air.
