  • Because multiple ovulation embryo transfer (MOET) in cattle includes several benefits such as wide spreading of genetically superior offspring for long distance, this biotechnological method has been widely applied to Hanwoo. When the recipients are not stayed close after embryo recovery from donor, the embryos are moved to other farms via several vehicles (car, train, and airplane). However, air travel induces lesser oxygen level, increased vibration, lower air pressure, higher noise, and increased exposure of cosmic radiation to living things than ground level. It was still unknown that fresh embryos obtained from multiple ovulation of Hanwoo could maintain their fertility after being transported via air plane, the present case report introduced a clinical case of MOET in Hanwoo after shipping fresh embryos via air transportation. The donor was multi-ovulated via follicle-stimulating hormone series of injection, which was followed by a gonadotrophin-releasing hormone injection and artificial insemination twice. The embryos were recovered by the uterine flushing, packed in ministraws, transported to recipients for 6 h including 1 h air flight, and then transferred to the synchronized recipients. During pregnancy diagnosis of early gestation period, 5 of 7 recipients (71.4%) presented no heat signs and showed fetal sacs with fluid under transrectal ultrasonography. After normal gestation period, all recipients naturally delivered healthy calves (male n = 2 and female n = 3) without abortion, stillbirth, and premature birth. The present case report indicated that transportation of fresh embryos for MOET via domestic flight in Korea did not affect to their fertility.

  • The aerodynamic performance of airplane is different according to the configuration of landing gear. As the drag becomes different according to this configuration, the flow stream of air must be smooth at taking off and landing. In this study, the configuration of landing gear was designed each in order to enhance the energy efficiency of airplane. Five models were compared in total at analysis. The magnitudes of drag and pressure became different and the air pressure of wake were changed due to the configuration. So, the air pressure due to the flow velocity and the air resistance happening at the rear can be estimated according to the configuration of landing gear. It is thought to improve the performance of airplane through the result of this study.

  • Experiments were conducted to show the characteristics of the flow on triple parallel plane impinging jets. Measurements of mean velocity components and turbulent intensities were carried out with a particle image velocimetry(PIV) to investigate the flow field generated by the air issued from three identical plane parallel nozzles and mixed with the ambient air. The measurements range of these experiments were Reynolds number of 5000 and 1000 based on the nozzle width and the case of nozzle-to-plate distances were two times, six times and ten times the width of the nozzle. Results show that recirculation region of Re=5000 is the stronger than that of Re=1000. Therefore, velocity loss of centerline for Re=5000 that shows strongly recirculation region takes effect greatly.

  • The capabilities of finite elements codes allow now accurate simulations of blanking processes when appropriate materials modelling are used. Over the last decade, numerous numerical studies have focused on the influence of process parameters such as punch-die clearance, tools geometry and friction on blanking force and blank profile. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to design a lead frame blanking die using LS-Dyna3D package. After design of the blanking die, an experiment is also carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42, a kind of IC lead frame material. In this paper, it has been researched the investigation to examine the influence of process parameters such as clearance and air cylinder pressure on the accuracy of sheared plane. Through the experiment results, it is shown that the quality of sheared plane is less affected by clearance and air cylinder pressure.

  • Gas diffusion layer (GDL) of PEMFCs plays a role that it diffuses the reactant gases to the catalyst layer on the membrane and discharge water from the catalyst layer to the channel. Physical parameters related to the mass transport of GDL are mostly from the uncompressed GDLs while actual GDLs in the assembled stacks are compressed. In this study, the relation of compression and strain of GDLs with various Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) loading is measured experimentally and In-plane gas permeability is measured at the condition that the GDLs are in compressive strain. The gas permeability decreased with the loading of PTFE and the presentation of gas permeability under compressive stain is expected to improve the accuracy of modeling work of mass transport in the GDL.

  • An analysis has been given for the effect of viscous dissipation on the thermal instability of plane Couette flow between two parallel plates maintained at different constant temperatures. Under the assumption that the principle of the exchange of stabilities holds, stationary disturbance quantities in the form of longitudinal vortices are considered. The magnitudes of disturbance quantities are then represented as fast convergent power series so that the eigenvalue problem for determining the onset conditions of the thermal instability may be reduced to a simplified problem of finding the roots of a $4{\times}4$ determinant. It is shown that as the magnitude of the visucous dissipation increases the flow becomes more susceptible to instabilities, which is in very good agreement with previous results obtained in some related researches.

  • The purpose of this study is to apply the zone method expressions for a gray, absorbing, emitting, and linearly anisotropic scattering medium enclosed in an infinite plane layer to evaluate heat transfer applications. The medium is assumed to be homogeneous and has a refractive index of unity. The boundary surfaces are opaque and gray, diffusely emitting and reflecting at a constant temperature. Radiative equilibrium condition, combined conductive and radiative heat transfer, and thermal ignition are studied in terms of the governing parameters, and the results are compared with previous studies. Wall heat flux results agree well with those of others. Except for the minor discrepancies observed for some cases, temperature results also agree well with those of previous studies. Good agreement with results from other methods indicates the accuracy of the zone method as well as its compatibility with other modes of heat transfer.

  • A wind tunnel consisting of two air flow conditioners with polycarbonate pipes, a plant growth room, a suction fan and fan controller, and fluorescent lamps, was designed to investigate the interactions between the growth of plug seedlings under artificial light and their Physical environments. Light transmissivities in the plant growth room based on the photosynthetic photon flux density and photosynthetically active radiation was appeared to be 96.3% and 96.8%, respectively. Measurement showed a uniformity in the vertical profiles of air current speed at the middle and rear regions of plug trays in wind tunnel. This result indicated that the development of a wind tunnel based on the design criteria of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers was adequate. Air current speed inside the plug stand was significantly decreased due to the resistance by the leaves of plug seedlings and boundary layer developed over and below the plug stand. Driving force to facilitate the diffusion of gas inside the plug stand might be regarded as extremely low. Aerodynamic characteristics above the plug stand under artificial light were investigated. As the air current speed increased, zero plane displacement decreased but roughness length and frictional velocity increased. Zero plane displacement linearly increased with the average height of plug seedlings. The wind tunnel developed in this study would be useful to investigate the effects of air current speed on the microclimate over and inside the plug stand and to collect basic data for a large-scale plug production under artificial light in a semi-closed ecosystem.

  • This paper presents experimental results which explore the capability of a CW laser speckle photography for tile measurement of in-plane displacement at high temperature. The serious restrictions on the application of the method seem to be the ambient air turbulence and the change of surface texture caused by the oxidation, as they tend to decorrelate the double exposured speckle patterns. In order to assess only the effect of air turbulence, a ceramics-coated stainless steel plate is heated in air and Ar-laser specklegrams are made with combination of temperature and lateral translation displacement. The slight reduction in visibility of Young's fringes is observed at $1000^{\circ}C$. The analyses of Young's fringes are carried out by a image processing system using a TV-camera and computers, and the result agrees well with the micrometer reading. Futhermore, uncoated stainless steel and Hastelloy X plates are tested and the effect of oxidation is also evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate that a CW laser speckle photography is applicable at temperatures up to $1000^{\circ}C$.
