The broth solution was prepared by the mixing of an uranyl nitrate, THFA, PVA, and water. The uranium concentration of the broth solution was $0.5{\sim}0.8$ mole-U/L and the viscosity of it was $30{\sim}80cSt$. The droplets of this broth solution were farmed in air and ammonia by the vibrating nozzle with the frequency of 100 Hz at the amplitude of $100{\sim}130V$. The diameter of the droplet was about $1900{\mu}m$ from using the nozzle diameter of 1 mm. The diameter of the aged gel was about $1400{\mu}m$ after aging in ammonia solution at $60{\sim}80^{\circ}C$, and the dried gel with the diameter of about $900{\mu}m$ was obtained after drying at room temperature or partially vacuum condition. The diameter of the calcined $UO_3$ microsphere after calcination at $600^{\circ}C$ appeared about $800{\mu}m$ in air atmosphere. Although the droplets of the same sizes were formed, the calcined microspheres of different sizes were manufactured in the case of the broth solutions of the different uranium concentration. The droplets of the desired diameters were obtained by the change of the nozzle diameters and the broth flow rates.
Supersonic free jets discharging from an orifice or a nozzle have long been research subject with a number of engineering applications and have mainly been investigated using dry air or other gas without any condensation effects. The major characteristics of those supersonic jets are now well known in terms of jet pressure ratio and ratio of specific heats of gas. Recently, the supersonic jets of superheated steam or moist air are being used in many industrial applications, in which case is expected that the condensation effects might alter the fundamental structure of the dry air jet. The present study aims to investigate the supersonic moist air jet and to clarify the condensation effects on the jet structure. An experiment is carried out using an indraft wind tunnel facility. The relative humidity of moist air is controlled at the nozzle supply, and the jet pressure ratio is varied to obtain the moderately under expanded flows at the exit of the nozzle. It is found that the relative humidity of moist air can change the diameter and location of Mach Disk.
The measurement of breakup length of viscous liquid jet in stagnant air was conducted by a 3CCD digital video camera. The nozzle diameters of 4, 6, 8mm with L/d=50 were selected and the dynamic viscosity of viscous liquid made of glycerine and water was in the range of $1.061\times10^{-6}m^2/s$ to $4.935\times10^{-5}m^2/s$. The critical velocity is decreased and the breakup length is increased with the increase of nozzle diameter at the same dynamic viscosity of liquid. At the same nozzle diameter, the breakup length and the critical velocity are both increased with the increase of dynamic viscosity of liquid. It is found in the theoretical analysis that the initial disturbance level is the main cause of occurrance of critical Reynolds number in the stability curve. The comparison of experimental critical Reynolds number and the empirical correlation by Tanasawa and Toyota reveals the relatively good agreement.
Experiment were carried out to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of an aluminum foam block as a porous heat sink on a heat source by a vertical air jet impingement that can be applied for electronics cooling. The performance of the aluminum foam heat sink was evaluated by the convective heat transfer coefficient on the heat source. At a fixed porosity, pore density ($\beta$) of the foam and Reynolds number Re were varied in the range of $\beta$a=10, 20, 40 PPI(Pore Per Inch) and $850\leqRe\leq25000$. A nozzle diameter and the nozzle-to-plate spacing were also varied. It was found that the convective heat transfer was enhanced by the aluminum foam heat sink with lower pore density due to relatively intensified flow through the foam block. The aluminum foam block with much reduced weight shows slightly better performance with larger Nusselt number, compared with the convectional heat sink.
In an effort to illustrate the global variation of SMD (Sauter mean diameter, or $D_{32}$) and AMD (Arithmetic mean diameter, or $D_{10}$) at five axial downstream locations (i. e., at Z=30, 50, 80, 120, and 170 mm) under the different experimental conditions, the radial coordinate is normalized by the spray half-width. Experimental data to analyze the atomization characteristics concerning with an internal mixing type have been obtained using a PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer). The air injection pressure was varied from 40 kPa to 120 kPa. In this study, counterflowing internal mixing nozzles manufactured at an angle of $15^{\circ}$with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled four holes have been considered. By comparing the results, it is clearly possible to discern the effects of increasing air pressure, suggesting that the disintegration process is enhanced and finer spray droplets can be obtained under higher air assist. The variations in $D_{32}$ are attributed to the characteristic feature of internal mixing nozzle in which the droplets are preferentially ejected downward with strong axial momentum, and dispersed with the larger droplets which are detected in the spray centerline at the near stations and smaller ones are generated due to further subsequent breakup by higher shear stresses at farther axial locations. The poor atomization around the centre close to the nozzle exit is attributed to the fact that the relatively lower rates of spherical particles are detected and these drops are not subject to instantaneous breakup in spite of the strong axial momentum. However, substantial increases in SMD from the central part toward the edge of the spray as they go farther downstream are mainly due to the fact that the relative velocity of droplet is too low to cause any subsequent disintegration.
For maximum seeding efficiency of a nozzle type seeder, the performance of the nozzle should be considered sufficiently. This study was carried out to investigate the optimum operating conditions of a seeder attached the vacuum nozzle which was modified syringe needle acting on the plug seedling tray and the seed plate. Such operating factors as the hole diameter of the nozzle (d), the distance from the nozzle tip to the bottom plate of seed hopper(D) the absorbing air pressure of the nozzle tip(P) the bounding height of seed from the vibrated bottom plate of seed hopper and the seeding speed were selected based on the weight of a grain of seed(W). The treated materials were pepper seed as the flat type, cucumber seed as the oval type and radish seed as the spherical type. The optimum operating conditions of the experimental seeder were revealed as follows: 1. The height of the seed bounding from the bottom plate of seed hopper and the distance from nozzle tip to bounded seed were 5 mm and 0.5 mm at all seeds. The hole diameter of the nozzle and the absorbing pressure for pepper seed, cucumber seed and radish seed was 0.45 mm, 0.65 mm. 0.65mm and 39.2 kPa, 88.3 kPa, 58.8 kPa, respectively. 2. The absorbing pressure P was represented as P=η.4W/$\pi$d$^2$ where η was 100. The seeding speed using a 128 cell tray was 2.4 cm/s which was same transfer as 2.5 trays per minute. 3. The maximum seeding rate in case of the pepper seed was 97% the cucumber seed was 95% and the radish seed was 100% under the optimum operating conditions of the seeder.
In this study, the effect of injection pressure on the column diameter and droplet velocity of liquid jet with the weakly turbulent Rayleigh-like breakup mode is experimentally studied using digital microscopic holography (DMH). The injection nozzle has the diameter of $50{\mu}m$ and injection pressure is varied from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. When the micro liquid jet is injected into still air, the double-pulsed holograms was recorded on a CCD sensor and numerically reconstructed in order to obtain well focused images. In this study, the liquid column diameter from $50{\mu}m$ orifice nozzle is shown to be changed slightly but the droplet velocity is increased proportionally as the injection pressure is increased.
The effect of secondary flow on both methane/air and propane/air premixed flame was investigated experimentally. By changing the radius of curvature, various flame behavior was observed. In the V-bend nozzles, flame surface is deformed from axisymmetry. As the exit velocity increased, flame lifted off partially. When the radius of curvature of the V-bend increased, the region where premixed flame is entirely on the rim increased. Since the axial velocity field is changed due to the secondary flow effect, comparison of V-bend and straight tube with the same diameter shows larger V-bend nozzle exit velocity for both flash back and flame blowout. The flame characteristics are mapped with a equivalence ratio, a velocity, and a nozzle radius of curvature. To identify physical reasoning on the flame surface deformation, numerical calculations are conducted. OH radical distributions in flames are visualized by PLIF technique.
To In this study, a nozzle which is designed to work as expansion device was installed in a refrigeration system and performance test was conducted. The nozzle has 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm diameter and inserted in a body of the devices. System performance was compared with a electronic expansion device(EEV, electric expansion valve) and designed nozzles at the environmental conditions such as dry bulb and wet bulb temperature. To reduce energy loss in the evaporator, a nozzle was inserted into the evaporator. In the comparison test, the opening of the EEV was adjusted to the same diameter as the 3 nozzles, and the experiments conducted at a 27℃ dry bulb temperature and 19.5℃ wet bulb temperature with 50% relative humidity as defined at KS C 9306 standard. To find out the effect of the environmental condition, the bulb temperature was varied 5 degree lower and higher than the standard condition temperature with the same relative humidity condition at 50%. The air flow rate to the evaporator was also changed 4, 7 and 10 m3/min. As results, the temperature drop in the nozzle was 153% higher than that of the EEV and the enhancement of the performance(COP) was up to 125.7% if install the nozzles in the refrigeration system. The highest performance was obatained at 1.0mm diameter nozzle.
