  • The archives preservation chamber is an equipment that is able to store important archives with air-cleaning and isothermal-isohumidity control functions to permanently store archives in a highly safe environment. The chamber can only store small amounts of archives but it is crucial for organizations preserving archives to economically store a variety of archives, be it a medium or a small amount of documents. An arm of this study researches the current preservation status of the local record center to determine the need for such a chamber. In addition, in order to improve the air-cleaning and isothermal-isohumidity functions, the researchers of this study have conducted analyses to design the core parts. The preservation chamber that had been designed includes an archives preservation area, air-cleaning equipment, and environment measurement equipment. A preservation chamber is used to preserve small amounts of important archives safely. Thus, when a local record center is preserving various types of archives in small or medium quantities in a stack room, the preservation chamber can be used to aid their long-term preservation.

  • Water hammer pumps can effectively use the water hammer phenomenon in long-distance pipeline networks that include pumps and allow fluid transport without drive sources, such as electric motors. The results of experiments that examined the effect of the geometric form of water hammer pumps by considering their major dimensions have been reported. In addition, a paper has also been published analyzing the water hammer phenomenon numerically by using the characteristic curve method for comparison with experimental results. However, these conventional studies have not fully evaluated the pump performance in terms of pump head and flow rate, common measures indicating the performance of pumps. Therefore, as a first stage for the understanding of water hammer pump performance in comparison with the characteristics of typical turbo pumps, the previous paper experimentally examined how the hydrodynamic characteristics were affected by the inner diameter ratio of the drive and lifting pipes, the form of the air chamber, and the angle of the drive pipe. To understand the behavior of the components attached to the valve chamber and the air chamber that affects the performance of water hammer pumps, the previous study also determined the relationship between the water hammer pump performance and temporal changes in valve chamber and air chamber pressures according to the air chamber capacity. For the geometry of components attached to the drain valve, which is another major component of water hammer pumps, this study experimentally examines how the water hammer pump performance is affected by the length of the spring and the angle of the drain pipe.

  • Water hammer following the tripping of pumps can lead to overpressures and negative pressures. Reduction in overpressure and negative pressure may be necessary to avoid failure, to improve the efficiency of operation and to avoid fatigue of system components. The field tests on the water hammer have been conducted on the pump rising pipeline system with an air chamber. The hydraulic transient is modeled using the method of characteristics. Minimizing the least squares problem representing the difference between the measured and predicted transient response in the system performs the calibration of the simulation program. Among the input variables used in the water hammer analysis, the effects of the polytropic exponent, the discharge coefficient and the wave speed on the result of the numerical analysis were examined. The computer program developed in this study will be useful in designing the optimum parameters of an air chamber for the real pump pipeline system. The correct selection of air chamber size and the effects of related parameters to minimize water hammer have been investigated by both field measurements and numerical modeling.

  • An experiment about performance characteristics is conducted on a double chamber vane-type rotor. Three different rotors, which have 6, 8 and 9 vanes, are applied to the driver and various lift holes at the rear plate are used to increase the effective vane height. The inner diameter of a double chamber cylinder is ${\phi}27mm$, and the length of the cylinder is 65 mm. The maximum offset length between the rotor outer surface and the cylinder inner surface is 4.5 mm. In this study, specific output torques and powers are measured, and also noise and vibration are measured at the real operating situation. The operating torque on the double chamber is increased to 17% compared to the operating torque obtained at the single chamber which has the same size. The experimental results of noise and vibration show that the operating sound and vibration are directly related to the operating power generated by the double chamber rotor.

  • It is well known that an Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converter (OWC-WEC) is one of the most efficient wave absorber equipment. This device transforms the vertical motion of water column in the air chamber into the air flow velocity and produces electricity from the driving force of turbine as represented by the Wells turbine. Therefore, in order to obtain high electric energy, it is necessary to amplify the water surface vibration by inducing resonance of the piston mode in the water surface fluctuation in the air chamber. In this study, a new type of OWC-WEC with a seawater channel is used, and the wave deformation by the structure, water surface fluctuation in the air chamber, air outflow velocity from the nozzle and seawater flow velocity in the seawater channel are evaluated by numerical analysis in detail. The numerical analysis model uses open CFD code OLAFLOW model based on multi-phase analysis technique of Navier-Stokes solver. To validate model, numerical results and existing experimental results are compared and discussed. It is revealed within the scope of this study that the air flow velocity at nozzle increases as the Ursell number becomes larger, and the air velocity that flows out from the inside of the air chamber is larger than the velocity of incoming air into the air chamber.

  • This paper presents an applicable basic design that can configure non-contact levitation table for conveying a large sheet of glass. The suggested air levitation table consists of a series of air chambers with porous pads and fans as the conveyor system. The air supply chambers are arrayed to supply an adequately strong upward airflow for supporting the glass. Levitation is controlled by the size and discharge velocity, of the chamber arrays, as well as the glass supporting height. After pre-evaluation of the glass rigidity and the filer functional performance, a one-way fluid structure interface (FSI) analysis is performed for predicting pressure and deflection working of the 8G glass in the transverse and longitudinal directions, respectively. After comparing calculated levels of flatness of the glass, it determines the chamber array for the linear non-contact conveying motion.

  • A cylindrical constant-volume combustion chamber was used to investigate the flow characteristics at the spark electrode gap and the combustion characteristics of an inhomogeneous charge methane-air mixture under several parameters such as stratified pattern, initial charge pressure, ignition time and the excess air ratio of the initial charge mixture. Flow characteristics including mean velocity and turbulence intensity were analyzed by a hot-wire anemometer. The combustion pressure development, measured by a piezo-electric pressure transducer, was used to investigate the effect of initial charge pressure, excess air ratio and ignition times on combustion pressure and combustion duration. It was found that the mean velocity and turbulence intensity had the maximum value around 200-300 ms and then decreased gradually to near-zero value at 3000 ms. For the stratified patterns, the combustion rate under the rich injection (RI) condition was the fastest. Under the initial charge conditions, the second mixture was accompanied by an increase in the combustion rate, and that the higher the mass which is added in the second stage injection, the faster the combustion rate.

  • An isotope Ir-192, which is used in brachytherapy depends on import in whole quantities. There are a few ways for its activity. measurement using Welltype chamber or the way to rely on authentic decay table of manufacturer. In-air dosimetry using Farmer Chamber, etc. In this paper, let me introduce the way using Farmer chamber which is easier and simple. With the Farmer chamber and source calibration jig, take a measurement the activity of an isotope Ir-192 and compare the value with the value from decay table of manufacturer and check the activity of source. The result of measurement, compared the value from decay table, by ${\pm}2.1\%$. (which belongs to recommendable value for AAPM ${\pm}5\%$ as difference of error range) It is possible to use on clinical medicine. With the increase in use of brachytherapy, the increase of import is essential. And an accurate activity check of source is compulsory. For the activity check of source, it was possible to use Farmer chamber and source calibration jig without additional purchase of Well type chamber.

  • This paper investigates ventilation characteristics of an environmental chamber simulating an under-floor air conditioning system for isothermal and cooling supply air conditions. The tracer gas sulfur-hexafluoride (SF$F_6$) was injected into a supply duct using step-up and step-down methods. Local mean and room mean ages were calculated from the concentrations measured at internal points and at the exhaust duct. The air change efficiency of the chamber has been found to be greater in cooling conditions than in isothermal conditions. Also the room air change efficiency is not significantly affected but slightly improved by the presence of a supply diffuser.

  • This study describes a method which can attenuate reaction force effectively for an air spring system composed of an air spring and auxiliary chamber. For the analysis, the nonlinear governing equation of the air spring system is derived. For a performance improvement of the system, change of the heat transfer effect and the mass flow rates is included in the analysis of the air spring system. The simulation study is presented to show the reaction force is changed by variations in heat transfer characteristics and the air spring system of isothermal process has the best performance. As a result, to improve attenuation characteristics of reaction force, a process in the air spring system should be maintained near isothermal process.
