We carried out a survey on tributary streams in some agricultural areas along Nakdong River to evaluate the effects of agricultural practices on pollution of stream water and groundwater. General properties, nutrient materials and heavy metals in water samples were measured. General physicochemical properties of tributary stream waters were at levels favorable for agricultural water. Heavy metals, except Zn, were mostly not detected. Total-N contents were much higher than the criteria of agricultural water, and nitrate-N accounts for more than a half of total-N. Phosphorus contents were higher than the lower level of P for algae growth and the contents were high especially in summer. In ground waters which are used for irrigation, P were mostly at same levels as those in streams, and nitrate contents were higher than 10mg/L in some samples. In these results only those N and P contents in stream and ground waters higher than pollution criteria are problematic and they are traceable to agricultural nonpoint sources-fertilizers, livestock farms and sewage. Further researches are needed to evaluate contributions of each nonpoint source on stream water pollutions.

To estimate agricultural water demand, many factors such as weather, crops, soil, cultivation method, crop coefficient and cultivation area, etc. must be considered. But it is not easy to estimate water demand in consideration of these factors, which are variable according to growth stage and regional environment. This study provides estimation system for agricultural water demand(ESAD) in order to estimate water demand easily and accurately, and arranges all factors needed for water demand estimation. This study identifies the application of estimation system for agricultural water demand with the data observed in the other studies, and analyzes nationwide agricultural water demand. The results are as follows. 1) The practice of different rice cultivation in the paddy field resulted in different water demands. Water depth and infiltration ratio in paddy are the most important factors to estimate water demand. The water depths in paddy simulated by ESAD is very similar to the observed ones. 2) Water demand of upland crops varies with the crops, soil, etc.. Effective rainfall estimated by daily routing of soil moisture varies according to the crops, soil, and effective soil zone(root depth). As crop root become grown, effective rainfall and an amount of irrigation water has been increased. 3) The current unit water demand of upland crops applied as 500mm or 550mm to estimate water demand does not reflect the differences caused by the crops, regional surrounding, weather condition, etc. Results from ESAD for the estimation of water demand of upland crops show that ESAD can simulate the actual field conditions reasonably because it simulates the actual irrigation practices with the daily routing of soil moisture.

This study investigated the morphological features, growth, and meat yield performance of Pekin (P), Nageswari (N), and their reciprocal F1 crossbreds (P♂×N♀ and N♂×P♀). A total of 301-day-old ducklings were reared in four different pens up to 20 weeks of age under intensive management conditions. Feeding and management practices were similar for all individuals throughout the experimental period. The morphology and plumage pattern of F1 crossbreds were similar to those of indigenous Nageswari ducks because of the dominant inheritance of the extended Black allele (E locus). Genotype had significant differences (P<0.05) among the four genotypes in morphometric measurements, except wing and shank length. Growth performance was highly significant among the four genotypes (P<0.001) from one-day to 12 weeks of age. The average live weights of P, N, P♂×N♀ and N♂×P♀ crossbred genotypes at 12 weeks of age were 2038.35±29.74, 1542.44±33.61, 1851.85±28.59 and 1691.08±27.80 g, respectively. Meat yield parameters varied significantly (P<0.05) among the different genotypes for all studied traits, except for liver and gizzard weight. Moreover, no significant differences (P>0.05) were observed between P and P♂×N♀ crossbred for important meat yield traits such as hot carcass weight, dressing%, back half weight, drumstick with thigh weight and breast meat weight. Remarkably, the P♂×N♀ crossbreed possesses 50% native inheritance, which contributes to better adaptation in a hot-humid environment. Our results revealed that the P♂×N♀ genotype could be suitable for higher meat production with better adaptability in the agro-climatic conditions of Bangladesh.
Background: The available information on terrestrial pest gastropods and their impact on the environment worldwide is scarce and outdated. The present study aimed to address this gap by conducting the first comprehensive survey of pest gastropods in the Nuwara Eliya District, an important vegetable growing area in the highlands of Sri Lanka. Eighty agricultural lands were surveyed over two years by establishing ten 1 m2 sampling plots per crop type in each agricultural land. Geo-coordinates, air temperature, elevation, relative humidity, daily rainfall, soil pH, species richness and abundance were recorded for rainy and non-rainy periods. The relationship between species composition and environmental variables was analyzed using multi-regression models and distribution maps. Results: Out of the 14 species recorded in agricultural lands, nine were identified as exotic pest species. Species abundance (t = 4.69, p < 0.05) and diversity was higher in the rainy period and the dominant species during this period were Bradybaena similaris (t = 2.69, p < 0.05) and Deroceras reticulatum (t = 2. 46, p < 0.05). Eggs and estivating adults were found in soil and under decaying organic matter during the non-rainy period. The exotic species showed broader preferences for the measured environmental factors and showed a wider range in distribution compared to the native species. Variation in pest gastropod composition was significantly accounted for by elevation, relative humidity, soil pH and daily rainfall. Additionally, the species richness and abundance varied across locations due to the combined effects of elevation, crop type and stage, and field type. Conclusions: The study emphasizes the importance of understanding the biology and ecology of gastropod pests to develop effective management strategies. By considering the influence of environmental factors and implementing appropriate soil management techniques, such as targeting specific habitats and crop stages, it is possible to mitigate pest populations and minimize their impact on agricultural lands. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into the dynamics and interactions of terrestrial gastropods in agricultural ecosystems, supporting sustainable pest management practices.
One of the most powerful health management practices is the use of antibiotics, but their use is being restricted because of health safety issues. The swine industry has been looking for various alternatives to antibiotics and increasingly considers the use of dietary factors like feed ingredients, feed additives, feed formulation practices, or feeding methods, instead of using antibiotics to improve pig health and performance. Among other alternatives to antibiotics, spray-dried plasma may be a candidate. Spray-dried plasma is a blood product that provides bioavailable nutrients and physiologically active components such as immunoglobulins, glycoproteins, growth factors, peptides, etc. It is an excellent protein source with balanced and highly digestible amino acids. Several beneficial physiological activities depend on components of spray-dried plasma, such as immune competence (antibacterial activity), modulation of microbiota and/or immune system, integrity of intestinal barrier function, etc. These beneficial effects can contribute to improvement of pig performance and health by modulation of microbiota in the digestive tract and/or immune system. Therefore, it is suggested that spray-dried plasma has great potential as an antibiotics alternative.

In recent years, urbanization has been a hot issues in watershed management due to increased pollutant loads from impervious urban areas. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model has been widely used in hydrology and water quality studies at watershed scale. However, the SWAT has limitations in simulating water flows between HRUs and hydrological effects of LID practices. The Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) has LID capabilities, but it does not simulate non-urban areas, especially agricultural areas. In this study, a SWAT-SWMM coupled model was developed to evaluate effects of LID practices on hydrology and water quality at mixed-landuse watersheds. This coupled SWAT-SWMM was evaluated by comparing calibrated flow with and without coupled SWAT-SWMM. As a result of this study, the $R^2$ and NSE values with SWAT are 0.951 and 0.937 for calibration period, and 0.882 and 0.875 for validation period, respectively. the $R^2$ and NSE values with SWAT-SWMM are 0.877 and 0.880 for validation period. Out of four LID scenarios simulated by SWAT-SWMM model, the green roof scenario was found to be most effective which reduces about 25% of rainfall-runoff flows.
A field study was conducted to determine the runoff loss of N and P in small scale of red pepper field plots (10% slope), consisting of three different plots with black polyethylene vinyl mulching (mulching), ridge without mulching (ridge), and flat without ridge and mulching (flat). Composted manure and urea as a basal application were applied at rates of $20MT\;ha^{-1}$ and $93kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. Urea at $189kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ and fused phosphate at $67kg\;P_2O_5\;ha^{-1}$ were additionally applied on June 25 with different fertilization methods, broadcast application in flat plot and hole injection in ridge and mulching plots. Plant uptake of N and P was positively correlated with their respective concentrations in surface soil: mulching > ridge > flat plots. The runoff loss by soil erosion was higher in flat plot than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nitrate loss by the runoff water had no significant differences among three surface management practices, but the higher average value in ridge and mulching plots than flat plot. Especially, the flat plot had no phosphate loss during summer season. This is probably due to low labile P content in surface soil of flat plot. In the summation of soil and water loss, flat plot was higher in N and P loss than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nevertheless, the nitrate and phosphate loss by runoff water could be more important for non-point source management because the water could meet the river easier than eroded soil because of re-deposition around slope land.

In this study, the water quality purification of new medias which were NPS media, hyugato, mineral stone, charcoal for applying soil media of Integrated Management Practices (IMPs) of Low Impact Development (LID) were evaluated. The influent concentrations of COD, T-N, and T-P were 117.8 mg/L, 17.1 mg/L, and 2.062 mg/L, respectively. The infiltration capacities of NPS media, hyugoto, mineral stone, charcoal, and gravel were $7.1{\times}10m/s$, $7.3{\times}10^{-5}m/s$, $7.9{\times}10^{-5}m/s$, $6.0{\times}10^{-5}m/s$, respectively. All media meet criteria of infiltration capacity as surface soil layer at IMPs which is over $1.0{\times}10^{-5}m/s$. Maximum removal rates of COD, T-N, and T-P occurred at Charcoal with 98 % of COD removal rate, NPS with 78 % of T-N removal rate, and hyugato with 75 % fo T-P removal rate, respectively. For more high removal efficiency of all water quality item, the mixed media which is 4.5(NPS media): 1(charcoal) : 4.5 (hyugato) as volume ratio was evaluated. The infiltration capacity of mixed media was $7.9{\times}10^{-5}m/s$ and met the criteria of infiltration as surface soil layer. The water quality removal efficiencies of mixed media were very high with showing 70 % for COD, 85 % for T-N, and 71 % for T-P. The mixed media could purify the water quality of surface runoff and was recommended to used at the LID site of ground water quality problem.

The DIROM (Daily Irrigation Reservoir Operation Model) was modified to estimate amounts of water release from reservoirs, considering customary irrigation water management practices, such as water supply for puddling and transplanting paddy rice from seeding beds and mid-season drainage. The applicability of the modified model was investigated by simulating amounts of water release from three study reservoirs: Hwamae, Ogi, and Doya Reservoirs. In terms of annual amounts of water release, the relative errors between the observed and simulated values in 2012 and 2013 ranged -26.20 % to 10.28 % and 4.90 % to 30.06 %, respectively; in case of reservoir water levels, the RMSE values ranged 0.45 m to 1.34 m and 0.40 m to 1.27 m, respectively. Also, it was revealed that the model provided better simulation results for monthly water releases than the original model. In addition, the model presented better performance in simulating 10-day amounts of water release from April to June. However, the model had still significant errors in the simulation results from July to September because the reservoirs were practically operated to adapt to water management circumstances. Finally, it is concluded that the modified DIROM can estimate the amounts of water release from reservoirs, reflecting irrigation water management customs in paddy-field districts. To achieve higher prediction accuracy of the model, it is necessary to incorporate practical reservoir operation rules into the model.
