  • This paper investigates the effects of the fusion of multifrequency (C and L bands) polarimetric SAR data in land-cover classification. NASA JPL AIRSAR C and L bands data were used to supervised classification in an agricultural area to simulate the integration of ALOS PALSAR and Radarsat-2 SAR data to be available. Several scattering features derived from target decomposition based on eigen value/vector analysis were used as input for a support vector machines classifier and then the posteriori probabilities for each frequency SAR data were integrated by applying a probabilistic ratio model as a decision level fusion methodology. From the case study results, L band data had the proper amount of penetration power and showed better classification accuracy improvement (about 22%) over C band data which did not have enough penetration. When all frequency data were fused for the classification, a significant improvement of about 10% in overall classification accuracy was achieved thanks to an increase of discrimination capability for each class, compared with the case of L band Shh data.

  • The study for soil has been conducted separately by several areas such as soil mechanics and soil chemistry. Soil is important in terms of prediction of how the plant grow with nutrient requirement. Also, soil is important for machines to work on to solve labor shortage and save farmers from harsh environment during farm work. To meet diverse needs related to soil in agriculture, the soil related study needs to be conducted synthetically. Thus, we tried to obtain the data related to soil chemistry including pH and Electrical Conductivity (EC) with data related to soil mechanics including Cone Index (CI), moisture content, soil classification. Specifically, the condition of the field was set to be cultivated at least for five years continuously at a first step. The soil was taken from 30 sites. CI was obtained using the soil penetrometer and soil classification was conducted using sieve analysis with eight kinds of sieve. The soil was taken on December when is during winter in Korea. There was variation of data including moisture content and CI.

  • Climatological informations have not been fully utilized by agricultural research and extension workers in Korea due mainly to inaccessbilty to the archived climate data. This study was initiated to improve access to historical climate data gathered from 72 weather stations of Korea Meteorological Administration for agricultural applications by using a microcomputer-based methodology. The climatological elements include daily values of average, maximum and minimum temperature, relative humidity, average and maximum wind speed, wind direction, evaporation, precipitation, sunshine duration and cloud amount. The menu-driven, user-friendly data retrieval system(CLIDAS) provides quick summaries of the data values on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and selective retrieval of weather records meeting certain user specified critical conditions. Growing degree days and potential evapotranspiration data are derived from the daily climatic data, too. Data reports can be output to the computer screen, a printer or ASCII data files. CLIDAS can be run on any IBM compatible machines with Video Graphics Array card. To run the system with the whole database, more than 50 Mb hard disk space should be available. The system can be easily upgraded for further expansion of functions due to the module-structured design.

  • Canal construction is not the only area in which mechanization has advanced with great strides. All phases of the construction industry, including earthmoving, land clearing and levelling, road construction, and drainage and water control projects, have benefited from today's technological advancements. Lasers, an excellant example of advanced technology, have been refined for use as guidance systems for construction machinery, increasing accuracy and the speed of operation. The use of explosives by contractors is becoming more commonplace. One of the most valuable modern tools available today is the two-way radio. On today's sophisticated projects a single machine being down can frequently stop the progress of the entire project, delaying hundreds of men and machines from completing their assigned work for the day. The use of two-way radios in all the pickups and cars being used on a project facilitates communication so that emergency repairs can be effected immediately, and costly down time on any project can be reduced to a minimum. Not every construction project is suitable to mechanization. However, on the majority of projects mechanization has a great deal to offer the Korean contractor, and all contractors, in savings of time and money. Each and every project being considered by a contractor, should be closely examined for the most effective and efficient machinery application available. The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) has formed a committee on construction techniques being used in canal construction today. Two publications are now available describing the advances made in recent years. Standards for construction have been established for mechanized systems and this information is being distributed worldwide.

  • An engineering design of the machines and equipment for processing grain as well as an understanding of processing itself need the knowledge of thermal properties of grain. Thermal properties of grain are thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat. Knowledge of any two and the bulk density of grain enables the third to be calculated. Several workers have investigated these properties, with special emphasis on thermal conductivity and diffusivity. However, some information is available on the specific heat of rough rice and barley but it is available only for a foreign variety of grain and for as a function of moisture content only. The objectives of this study were to develop a model for the specific heat of rough rice and barley which were a staple products in Korea as a function of initial temperature, moisture content and porosity of grain with cooling curve method, and to analyze the effect of these factors on the specific heat of rough rice and barley. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The specific heat was $1.8209-2.7041kJ/kg\;^{\circ}K$ for Naked barley, 1.8862-2.5625 k.l/kg K for Covered barley, $1.5167-2.3779kJ/kg\;^{\circ}K$ for Japonica rice and $1.5260-2.3981kJ/kg\;^{\circ}K$ for Indica rice. 2. The model for the specific heat of rough rice and barley as a function of initial temperature, moisture content and porosity of grain was developed. 3. Specific heat of rough rice was decreased with initial temperature, but specific heat of barley was increased with initial temperature. 4. On the whole specific heat of sample grain was increased with moisture content of grain. 5. Specific heat of the grain was found to decrease with porosity except Indica rice.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a farming model for Hanwoo start-up farmers. I prepared a Hanwoo production plan model according to the growth cycle of Hanwoo using EXCEL. The Hanwoo production plan model was simulated in two model: Model 1 (a model that only purchases Hanwoo calf) and Model 2 (a model that purchases both Hanwoo cow and Hanwoo calf). Next, I reviewed the profits and costs of two Hanwoo simulation models. As a result of the analysis, Model 2 has the following characteristics compared to Model 1. First, Model 2 requires a lot of initial investment. Second, Model 2 is advantageous in terms of farm cash balance because imports occur every year. Third, Model 2 can efficiently use facilities and machines.

  • Rehmannia glutinosa is a perennial herb belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae and is used in traditional oriental medicine. This study was carried out current status of breeding of R. glutinosa, its problems, and the matters to be improved were made. Based on the research data published so far, this study summarized the characteristics of breeds cultivated in Korea and compared and analyzed the status of cultivation area, production, import, and price changes for 15 years from 2008 to 2021. The cultivated area of R. glutinosa is gradually decreasing, and the amount of import is increasing and decreasing repeatedly. Amount of import has declined significantly. There was a lot of disinfection and disposal in the middle of import, and dried Jihwang and Sukjihwang were imported without distinction. R. glutinosa must be cultivated and supplied as a variety desired by the industry, cultivation techniques need to be taught to producers. In order to clearly identify the amount of import, import code of dried Jihwang and Sukjihwang must be classify. In addition, it is necessary to develop and supply harvesting agricultural machines for mechanization. For the stable income of producers, supply control through contract cultivation will ensure stable farm income.
