A simulation model for reservoir sizing was developed to be applied in a region with insufficient hydrological data. Reservoir storage balance equation was formulated on a monthly basis. Gajiyama equation was generalized to estimate monthly reservoir inflow more accurately. Monthly evaporation equation on a reservoir water surface was introduced , which was functioned with monthly mean temperature. Generalized Gajiyama equation was applied to estmate reservoir inflow of the Sayeon dam. Nash-Sutcliffe's model efficiency was 0.793. Using developed model for reservoir sizing, water supply capacity was analyzed with 118.000㎥/day on the Sayeon dam. This showed a reasonable result as compared with 110000㎥/day in other technical report. For general application of developed model, a virtual reservoir was considered and its dta of surface area and volume by elevation was prepared using DEM. Using the model, size of reservoir was determined and water supply capacity was anlayzed on a virtual reservoir.

The irrigation reservoir operation models developed were tested with weather and field data, and the sensitivity of the water requirement deficiency indices(WRDI) were checked with different initial reservoir storages, irrigated areas, and other water uses from the reservoir storage. Seven reservoir release rules were applied to Yongseol Reservoir. Twenty year WRDIs were computed to check performances of those reservoir release rules. Mean WRDIs were 138, 198, 198, 200, 240, 344, and 1033mm for ROM, TOS, COS, CRR, MSC, FAS, and SRC, respectively. The results indicated that ROM contributes consistently to higher operation efficiencies of an irrigation reservoir. The test results of LFROM and SFROM showed that reservoir operation with the proposed optimization technique ROM would be better suited for an irrigation district than those with the other rules. And the proposed model could be used as a tool to improve reservoir operations.

Sediment yields from the reservoir watershed areas and raising of the spillway crest for the agricultural reservoir capacity enlargement were investigated and analysed through the 21 pilot reservoirs, have irrigated areas 200has. and over in the Kyoungpook province. In these studies, (1), the correlation analysis between various watershed characteristics and annual specific sediment yields were derived and (2), the excess effective reservoir capacity of the over 0.5m above the spillway crest could be estimated. In brief, catchment area should strongly be correlated with the annual specific sediment yields (R=0.90), the other side, average slope of the main stream is less than catchment area. The excess effective capacity of reservoir enlargement by the raising of spillway crest at 0.5m-height was resulted 12.1% of increasing capacity compare with the original reservoir capacity.

The aim of this study was to analyze the operation plan for heightened agricultural reservoir, in terms of water supply to downstream paddy fields and instreams. Operation of agricultural reservoir before the heightened reservoir project is easy to manage because of its single purpose, which is irrigation water supply. However, after proceeding the heightened project, there is needed to be set the operation rule because of its multiple purpose, which is water for irrigation and supply to the stream. In this paper, propose the method of design the criteria of supply to the stream and operation rule curve for the heightened reservoir. According to simulation results by proposed operating rule for the Gumsa reservoir, the yearly amount of water supply to the stream can be 2,588 thousand $m^3$, 3 times of the heightened space (2,588 thousand $m^3$).

Embankment of agricultural reservoir started by four major rivers project. Most agricultural reservoirs must insure the agricultural water, they need must be ensured stability of embankment. Recently, there is a growing interest in seismic stability of structure by earthquake. Results of evaluation of the structural stability through seismic vibration test and numerical analysis, maximum displacement and the maximum acceleration is a similar trends. Appeared by increasing occurrence of the value of the displacement and acceleration of the structure with the result long period wave type in accordance with the seismic wave in the case of seismic waves, which shows the results of similar tendency as long period wave type consists of waveform seismic acceleration. Model test and numerical analysis results with in order to increase embankment agricultural reservoir, the displacement was found to ensure it is displayed within one percentage structural stability of the embankment.

The environmental ecological flow (EEF) of stream or river will be designated according to the enforcement of the Water Environment Preservation Act. Previous researches by Ministry of Environment have proposed agricultural reservoirs as alternative resources to secure river flow where multi-purpose dam does not exist. However, agricultural reservoirs are constructed for the supply of agricultural water, and in fact, there is not a sufficient amount of water to be supplied to rivers as EEF. Therefore, this study examines the economic feasibility of securing EEF through the remodeling or construction of agricultural reservoirs. We investigated water balance of reservoir through simulation of three types of water supply demands such as agricultural water, agricultural water and river maintenance flow, and agricultural water and environmental ecology flow. The economics analysis was conducted on water supply demands and corresponding remodeling or construction of reservoirs. As a result, it was found that the method of securing through heightening existing reservoir enhancement is economically feasible. However, it was not possible to secure all the amount of the EEF due to the size limitation of existing reservoirs or constrain of the watershed for newly built reservoir. Therefore, in order to secure all of the EEF, the utilization of other alternatives as well as agricultural reservoirs should be considered. This study demonstrated the method of economical feasibility study of securing river maintenace flow and EEF using agricultural reservoirs and other considerations.

For optimal irrigation reservoir operation during flood and normal period, a general and systematic policy is suggested to make balance of the conflicting purposes between water conservation and flood control. We developed Open Water Management Program (OWMP) with an open architecture to deal with newly arising upgrade problems for optimal management of irrigation reservoir. And we evaluated the applicability of OWMP to estimate daily runoff from an agricultural watershed including irrigation reservoirs, and analyzed behaviour of irrigation reservoirs as irrigation water requirements considering frequency analysis of reservoir storage and frequency analysis water requirements for effective management of reservoir. When we executed OWMP with data produced from an experimental field, IHP basins, the mean relative errors of application of daily runoff and irrigation water requirement were less than 5%. We also applied OWMP to a Seongju irrigation reservoir to simulate daily runoff, storage and water requirement from 1998 to 2002, and the mean model efficiency between measured and simulated value was 0.76. Our results based on the magnitude of relative errors and model efficiency of the model simulation indicate that the OWMP can be a tool nicely adapted to the effective water management of irrigation reservoir for beneficial water use and flood disaster management.

The component-based modeling framework for agricultural water-resources management (COMFARM) is a user-friendly, highly interoperable, lightweight modeling framework that supports the development of watershed-specific domain components. The objective of this study was to evaluate the suitability of the COMFARM for the design and creation of a component-based modeling system of agricultural reservoir watersheds. A case study that focused on a particular modeling system was conducted on a watershed that includes the Daehwa and Dangwol serial irrigation reservoirs. The hydrologic modeling system for the study area was constructed with linkable components, including the modified Tank, an agricultural water supply and drainage model, and a reservoir water balance model. The model parameters were each calibrated for two years, based on observed reservoir water levels. The simulated results were in good agreement with the observed data. In addition, the applicability of the COMFARM was evaluated for regions where reservoir outflows, including not only spillway release but also return flow by irrigation water supply, substantially affect the downstream river discharge. The COMFARM could help to develop effective water-management measures by allowing the construction of a modeling system and evaluation of multiple operational scenarios customized for a specific watershed.

This study proposes a method to evaluate agricultural reservoirs drought by modifying SWSI (Surface Water Supply Index). The method was applied to Geum river basin and the results were represented as spatially distributed information. The SWSI evaluates hydrological drought of watershed unit by selectively applying one or all of the components of snowpack, precipitation, streamflow and reservoir storage. South Korea has 22 % of agricultural area, and rice paddy covers 64 % among them. Usually paddy fields scattered along stream are irrigated by so many small agricultural reservoirs. It is difficult to evaluate agriculture drought by the little information and large number of agricultural reservoirs. In this study, seven agricultural reservoirs over 10 million ton storage capacity were selected in Geum river basin, and the SWSI was evaluated for both upstream and downstream of the reservoirs using 16 years data (1991-2006). Using the results, multiple regression analyses with precipitation and reservoir storage as variables were conducted and the equations were applied to other watersheds. The spatial results by applying regression equations showed that the severe and moderate drought conditions of July and September in 1994, June in 1995, and May in 2001 were well expressed by the watershed unit.
Recently, the quantitative management of agricultural water supply, which is the main source for water consumption in Korea, has become more important due to the effective water management organization of the Korean government. In this study, the estimation method for irrigation supply based on agricultural reservoir storage data was improved compared to previous research, in which drought year selection was unclear, and the outlier data for the rainfall-irrigation supply were not eliminated in the regression analysis. In this study, the drought year was selected by the ratio of annual precipitation to mean annual precipitation and the storage rate observed before the start of irrigation. The outlier data for the rainfall-irrigation supply were eliminated by the Grubbs & Beck test. The proposed method was applied to nine agricultural reservoirs for validation. As a result, the ratio of annual precipitation to mean annual precipitation is less than 53% and the storage rate observed before the start of irrigation is less than 55% it was judged to be the drought year. In addition, the drought supply factor, K, was found to be 0.70 on average, showing closer results to the observed reservoir rates. This shows that water management at the real is appling drought year practice. It was shown that the performance of the proposed method was satisfactory with NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient) and R2 (coefficient of determiniation) except for a few cases.
