Multi-Channel Vision System for On-Line Quantification of Appearance Quality Factors of Apple

  • An integrated on-line inspection system was constructed with seven cameras, half mirrors to split images. 720 nm and 970 nm band pass filters, illumination chamber having several tungsten-halogen lamps, one main computer, one color frame grabber, two 4-channel multiplexors, and flat plate conveyer, etc. A total of seven images, that is, one color image form the top of an apple and two B/W images from each side (top, right and left) could be captured and displayed on a computer monitor through the multiplexor. One of the two B/W images captured from each side is 720nm filtered image and the other is 970 nm. With this system an on-line grading software was developed to evaluate appearance quality. On-line test results with Fuji apples that were manually fed on the conveyer showed that grading accuracies of the color, defect and shape were 95.3%, 86% and 88.6%, respectively. Grading time was 0.35 second per apple on an average. Therefore, this on-line grading system could be used for inspection of the final products produced from an apple sorting system.

  • 현재 농산물 물류를 담당하는 거점산지유통센터에서의 박스구분적재 작업은 대부분 수작업으로 이루어지고 있다. 농산물의 적재과정은 많은 노동력을 필요로 하며 이러한 작업은 농촌에 거주하고 있는 사람들을 시간제 고용으로 해결하였으나, 최근 농촌 고령화가 심각하게 진행되면서 노동력 확보에 어려움이 따르며 시설 자동화나 로봇이용 등 대책이 강구되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 사과박스 구분적재 자동화를 위한 로봇 시스템을 제안한다. 제안방법은 거점산지유통센터에 컨베이어, 로봇, 바코드리더기 등의 장비와 소팅플랜, 작업통제, 제어정보생성, 모니터링의 소프트웨어 모듈을 설계하고 구현한다. 구현된 시스템을 운영 시험 및 평가를 통하여 자동화된 로봇 시스템이 기존의 수작업을 대체하여 작업효율성 향상과 안전성 문제 해결을 확인한다.

  • 대다수 농산물과 마찬가지로 건조표고의 등급판정은 외관특징에 주로 의존한다. 표고 갓의 전후면에 걸친 복잡하고 다양한 외관특징들로 인하여 표고의 등급판정은 임의로 추출한 표고샘플에 대하여 전문가가 수작업으로 판정하고 있으며, 선별작업 역시 전적으로 수작업에 의존하고 있다. 단순한 반복작업으로 보이는 농산물의 등급판정은 사실 시각과 촉각을 위시한 고도의 감각신경계를 통하여 상호 복잡하게 얽혀 들어오는 정보를 지능적으로 처리하는 고기능의 작업이다. 농산물의 경우, 외관특성을 비롯한 물성은 종류별로 그 경계치를 일괄적으로 명확하게 규정할 수 없기 때문에 대개는 오차를 포함한 통계적 접근에 의하여 규정하고 있다. 따라서 농산작업에 있어서는 농산물 물성이 갖는 모호성을 효율적으로 처리할 수 있는 가변적인 작업구조 및 정보처리가 필수적으로 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 인간 뇌의 정보처리 기능을 부분적으로 구현할 수 있는 인공신경회로망을 컴퓨터 시각 시스템에 적용하여 단순 기하도형의 분류 및 표고의 등급판정을 성공적으로 수행하였다. 회로망 입력으로는 컴퓨터시각 시스템을 이용하여 건조표고의 정성적 외관특징을 자동으로 추출한 후 정량화한 특징점 값들을 이용하였다. 신경회로망의 학습은 표본 추출한 등급표고와 이들의 정량적 특징점 값들을 입출력 쌍으로 하여 수행하였다. 학습한 회로망의 등급판정 성능시험은 표본추출한 미지의 표고에 대한 컴퓨터 영상 특징점 값들을 입력하여 수행하였다.

팔레트 빈(pallet bin)을 이용한 농산물의 차압통풍 냉각 연구 (Study of Pressure Cooling of Agricultural Products Using a Pallet Bin)

  • 본 연구에서는 농산물 수집용으로 사용되는 팔레트 빈의 활용도를 높일 수 있도록 팔레트 빈의 구조를 차압통풍 예냉과 저온저장에 적용할 수 있도록 개선하였다. 감자, 양파, 감귤에 대한 팔레트 빈 밑면의 통기공 개공율에 따른 송풍저항을 측정하였으며, 팔레트 빈과 차압통풍식 냉각장치를 제작하였다. 감자, 양파, 감귤의 개공율, 퇴적높이, 송풍량 변화의 실험자료를 회귀식으로 나타내었으며, 비교적 높은 결정계수를 얻을 수 있었다. 감자, 양파, 감귤의 팔레트빈을 이용한 차압통풍 예냉시 냉각속도 및 저온저장시 냉각균일도(표준편차)를 시험한 결과, 냉각속도는 각각 $0.8^{\circ}C/hr$ ($21.7{\rightarrow}10^{\circ}C$, 14.5시간), $0.4^{\circ}C/hr$($15.4{\rightarrow}20^{\circ}C$, 32.2시간), $0.7^{\circ}C/hr$($13.7{\rightarrow}1^{\circ}C$, 18.8시간)로 나타났으며, 저온저장시 각 빈별 표준편차는 각각 $0.12^{\circ}C$, $0.12^{\circ}C$, $0.17^{\circ}C$로 나타났다.

모의수송 중 진동피로에 의한 복숭아의 손상 (Damage at the Peach Due to Vibrational Stress During Transportation Simulation Test)

  • Post-Harvest processing engineering is a field that studies prevention of the quality change of agricultural products during sorting, packaging, storage, and distribution after harvested. In distribution steps, agricultural products could be damaged by physical force, it is the main reason of low quality and they lost value of commodities. This study was performed to find the vibration characteristics of the peach, and to find the extent of the damage on the peach by fatigue stress. The vibration data was obtained on expressway and the vibration characteristics of peach was used to find the damage on the peach. To analyze the vibration characteristics of peach, the resonance frequency and vibration transmissibility were measured. The resonance frequency of the peach was 167.98 Hz and the transmissibility was 4.06 at resonance point. It was 150 ~ 250 Hz that the transmissibility was more than 1. And the transmissibility in simulated test was measured. When the trasmissibility was more than 1, the range was 15 ~ 65 Hz, and when it was less than 1, the range was 65 ~ 175 Hz. When the transmissibility was about 1, the range was 5 ~ 15 Hz. The damage and the vibration cycle numbers of peaches were compared with input frequency and acceleration. More damage and less cycle number happened in 30 Hz than in 62.5 Hz. The reason was that the transmissibility of 30 Hz was higher and the vibration displacement in lower frequency was more. The more acceleration and cycle number increased, the more the bruising volume of peaches increased. The bruising volume ratio for vibration fatigue was measured according to input acceleration and cycle number. Using measured data, regression models for bruising volume ratio(BVR) was developed as a function of the acceleration(A) and cycle number(CN) as follows. BVR = a * $A^b*$ $(CN)^c$

Expression of Sortase, a Transpeptidase for Cell Wall Sorting Reaction, from Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538p in Escherichia coli

  • This paper describes the development of an enzymatic assay system for the identification of specific inhibitors of sortase, a transpeptidase that cleaves surface proteins of Cram-positive bacteria, from Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538p for antibacterial drug discovery. The coding region of the enzyme was amplified with the exception of the N-terminal membrane anchor sequence, cloned into a vector providing His-Patch-thioredoxin-tag at the N-terminus, expressed in Escherichia coli, and purified by metal chelate affinity chromatography. The enzyme activity was determined by quantifying increased fluorescence intensity upon cleavage of synthetic Dabcyl-QALPETGEE-Edans peptide. The results suggest that the developed in vitro assay system call be used in the search for sortase inhibitors In a short period of time.

  • Dried oak mushroom have complex and various visual features. Grading and sorting of dried oak mushrooms has been done by the human expert. Though actions involved in human grading looked simple, a decision making underneath the simple action comes from the result of the complex neural processing of the visual image. Through processing details involved in human visual recognition has not been fully investigated yet, it might say human can recognize objects via one of three ways such as extracting specific features or just image itself without extracting those features or in a combined manner. In most cases, extracting some special quantitative features from the camera image requires complex algorithms and processing of the gray level image requires the heavy computing load. This fact can be worse especially in dealing with nonuniform, irregular and fuzzy shaped agricultural products, resulting in poor performance because of the sensitiveness to the crisp criteria or specific ules set up by algorithms. Also restriction of the real time processing often forces to use binary segmentation but in that case some important information of the object can be lost. In this paper, the neuro net based real time recognition algorithm was proposed without extracting any visual feature but using only the directly captured raw gray images. Specially formated adaptable size of grids was proposed for the network input. The compensation of illumination was also done to accomodate the variable lighting environment. The proposed grading scheme showed very successful results.

근적외선 비파괴 과일 선별 시스템을 활용한 내부 갈변 사과의 판별 (Discrimination of Internally Browned Apples Utilizing Near-Infrared Non-Destructive Fruit Sorting System)

  • 본 논문에서는 농산물 산지 유통 센터에서 설치되어 사용하고 있는 비파괴 과일 선별 시스템을 이용하여 정상 사과와 내부에 결함이 있는 사과를 판별하기 위한 최적 파장과 해당 스펙트럼의 특성을 구명하고자 하였다. 총 54개 사과에 대해 470 - 1150 nm의 파장 범위에서 정상 사과와 갈변 사과의 투과 스펙트럼을 획득하였다. 주성분 분석(PCA)을 활용하여 정상 사과와 내부 갈변 사과의 군집을 확인하였으며, 판별 모델의 개발과 평가를 위해 부분최소제곱회귀(PLSR) 분석을 수행하였다. PCA 분석에서는 정상 사과와 내부 갈변 사과 군집의 확연한 구분이 보여 높은 판별율의 결과를 보여주었다. PLSR 분석 결과, 전처리를 하지 않은 예측 모델의 상관계수(R)는 0.902, RMSE 값은 0.157이었으며, 전처리를 적용했을 때 예측 모델의 상관계수는 0.906, RMSE 값은 0.154이었다. 따라서, 이 PLSR 모델은 이 시스템을 활용해 내부 갈변이 있는 사과도 우수하게 판별할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 방식을 이용할 경우, 외부 결함과 더불어 내부 결함에 대한 농산물 선별과 평가에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Measurement of Engineering Properties Necessary to the Design of Drumstick (Moringa oleifera L.) Pod Sheller

  • Purpose: Designing equipment for processing, sorting, and other post-harvest operations of agricultural products requires information about their physical properties. This study was conducted to investigate some of the mechanical and physical properties of Moringa oleifera L. pods and seeds. Methods: Properties such as the length, width, thickness, bulk density, porosity, mass, static coefficient of friction, and angle of repose were determined as a function of moisture content. Statistical data and force-deformation curves obtained at each loading orientation and moisture level were analyzed for bioyield point, bioyield strength, yield force, rupture point, and rupture strength using a testrometric machine. Result: The basic dimensions (length, width, and thickness) of moringa pods and seeds were found to increase linearly from 311.15 to 371.45 mm, 22.79 to 31.22 mm, and 22.24 to 29.88 mm, respectively, in the moisture range of 12 to 49.5% d.b. The coefficient of friction for both pods and seeds increased linearly with an increase in moisture content on all the surfaces used. The highest value was recorded on mild steel, with 0.581 for pods and 0.3533 for seeds, and the lowest on glass for pods, with a value of 0.501, and of 0.2933 for seeds on galvanized steel. The bioyield and rupture forces, bioyield and rupture energies, and deformation of the pods decreased with an increase in moisture content to a minimum value, then increased with further decrease within the moisture content range, while the yield force increased to a maximum value and then decreased as the moisture content increased. Conclusion: These results will help to determine the most suitable conditions for processing, transporting, and storing moringa pods, and to provide relevant data useful in designing handling and processing equipment for the crop.
