  • In this paper, a preliminary study for development of a fault diagnosis is presented for monitoring and diagnosing faults in the agitator driving system of a high temperature reduction reactor. In order to identify a fault occurrence and classify the fault cause, vibration signals measured by accelerometers on the outer shroud of the agitator driving system are firstly decomposed by wavelet transform (WT) and the features corresponding to each fault type are extracted. For the diagnosis, the fuzzy ARTMAP is employed and thereby, based on the features extracted from the WT, the robust fault classifier can be implemented with a very short training time - a single training epoch and a single learning iteration is sufficient for training the fault classifier. The test results demonstrate satisfactory classification for the faults pre-categorized from considerations of possible occurrence during experiments on a small-scale reduction reactor.

  • The scale up production test for the hydrothermal synthesis of clay mineral from the anorthite, which is distributed in San Chung-District of Korea and called as the ground rock for halloysite-kaolin, has been investigated by using the gaitator type reactor. The automatic control system has been developed and applied for the more effective producibility and the reduction in the defect of this intermittent batch processing property, and finally for the feasibility of this system in actual use. It was observed that this agitator type reactor can reduce the synthesis reaction tme from 5 days to 3 days, only with the condition of 20rpm. The automatic control system could regulate the vessel temperature and pressure precisely at an optimum condition during the treatment. Therefore, from these test results the application-possibility for this system was found to be feasible in actual use.

  • A novel conductivity technique was developed to detect penetration depth of the vessel fluid into the feedpipe. For a given reactor geometry, critical agitator speeds were experimentally determined at the onset of feedpipe backmixing using Rushton 6 bladed disk turbine (6BD) and high efficiency axial flow type 3 bladed (HE-3) impellers. The ratio of the feedpipe velocity to the critical agitator speed ($v_f/v_t$) was constant for either laminar or turbulent feedpipe flow regimes. Compared to the results of fast competitive reaction, feedpipe backmixing had to penetrate at least one feedpipe diameter into the feedpipe to significantly influence the yield of the side product. However, higher $v_f/v_t$ than that for L/d = 0 (position at the feedpipe end) of the conductivity technique is recommended to completely eliminate feedpipe backmixing in conservative design criteria. The conductivity technique was successful in all feedpipe flow conditions of laminar, transitional and turbulent flow regimes.

  • The utilization of food garbage as composting was investigated by using the batch reactor and by varying the initial temperature of the fermentation reactors. As the straw controlled under 50 to 55% of moisture content and mixed 5% of EM(Effective Micro-organisms) microbial agent. An agitator continuously operated 1 rpm, supplying the amount of air(2l/kg.min). Reactor temperature changed three type of 40$\circ$C, 50$\circ$C, 60$\circ$C. In the case of 50$\circ$C operated 72 hr after organic contents showed lowest 48%, and weight reduction rate of showed 77%. The reaction gas was showed 30 min after 19. 9% of the lowest level at 20.9% concentration of oxygen and CO$_2$ gas was produced 0.9% due to organic disintegration on initial react time. NH$_4$, H$_2$ and CH$_4$ gas concentration showed 589 ppm lhr after, 83 ppm and 0.3%, but 8hr after gas product was complete. As using the straw of bulking agent, the Reduction by disintegration should be more effectively than composting.
