  • The effect of aggregates on the forming and sintering behaviors of BaTiO3 was studied. Aggregates and deaggregates of fine crystallite were obtained by thermal decomposition of oxalate coprecipitates and subsequently crushing them with a press, respectively. Large voids formed by packing of aggregates were not easily eliminated despite the successive destruction of aggregates with increasing forming pressure. As a result, compacts of aggregates showed inhomogeneity with larger mid-pore size and broader pore size distribution with respect to those of deaggregates. This inhomogeneity caused differential shrinkage and consequental internal stress, which retarded densification. The differential sintering increased the size of mid-pores in the initial stage, and formed duplex structure composed of dense region with abnormally grown grains and porous region with fine grains. The driving force of this abnormal grain growth shown in the specimens of aggregates was attributed to the minimization of the elastic strain energy due to internal stress.

  • In this study, Mock-up was manufactured using recycled aggregate concrete and then analyzed with respect to physical properties. Finally, the applicability of recycled aggregates as constructional aggregates was reviewed by practically putting recycled aggregates concrete into construction. Right after mixing, the slump of recycled-aggregates concrete showed decreased slump as time goes by because the surface mortar of recycled aggregates absorbed the mix water with time passing. The air contents of recycled-aggregates concrete overall increase a little due to the effect of surface mortar of the aggregates. For strengths, the strengths of recycled aggregate concrete tended to decrease from the proportion of 30$\%$ to 100$\%$.

  • Recently, the supply and demand of aggregates has become difficult due to various practical constraints such as depletion of natural aggregate resources and tightening environmental regulations. As a result, aggregates such as selective crushed aggregates and river aggregates are now distributed to the construction market. In particular, among the aggregates distributed in the country, selective crushed aggregates that have been used recently are characterized by the fact that the quality of the raw material is not uniform and is based on geological characteristics. Such bad aggregates can affect the overall performance of the concrete and shorten the life of the structure. Therefore, in this study, in order to improve such problems, we want to analyze the effect of aggregate powder on mortar.

  • For determining the process of bacterial aggregation, glucose was added into water from Lake Baikal which had been stored for seven months. In the presence of a higher concentration of glucose, the abundance of single bacteria and aggregates were higher, but the biovolumes of both bacteria were similar. Theses results mean that both free-living and aggregated bacteria have similar maximum sizes and that aggregates are forming with available organic materials. With available organic materials, the biovolume of aggregates becomes larger.

  • Abrasion rate of coarse aggregates is an important factor to determine aggregates quality. Allowable limit of abrasion rate of coarse aggregates for concrete is 40% according to K.S. Strength and durability test of concrete with 19 efferent aggregates were made. From this test, it was found that allowable limit of abrasion rate of aggregates can be increased to 43%.

  • Disposal of construction wastes poses major challenge to the municipal administration in the developing countries. At the same time new developments in these countries are unscrupulously exploiting the natural resources. The sustainable development requires judicious and careful utilization of natural resources. In this context, reuse of construction and demolition waste can save the global natural resources to greater extent. In this work the bricks and concrete waste from construction sites were crushed to the desired sizes and mixed in various proportions to study its properties in the concrete both in fresh and hardened states. Six mixes of natural and recycled aggregates were used to make the coarse aggregates for the concrete. From each mix nine cylinders were cast, which were tested at 7,14 and 28 days. The properties of concrete with recycled aggregates were compared with the control mix having natural aggregates. The nominal ratio of cement sand and coarse aggregates were kept at 1:2:4 by weight for all mixes. The tests have shown that concrete with recycled aggregates made from old concrete and brick bats provide greater opportunities for reuse of construction wastes in concrete.

  • In this study, the properties of cement mortar and concrete using ceramic wastes as fine aggregates and coarse aggregates are considered experimentally. Flow value of mortar using ceramic waste as fine aggregates is increased more or less, and the com- pressive strength of mortar using ceramic wastes as fine aggregates is increased with elapsed age. The slump value of concrete using ceramic wastes fine aggregates and coarse aggregates is somewhat decreased. The compressive strength of concrete using ceramic wastes as fine aggregates and coarse aggregates is lower than that of OPC concrete in early age, but has gradually increased in long ages.

  • This study is to assess the differences between concrete having only one of fine aggregates such as crushed fine aggregates, sea sand and blast furnace slag in it and concrete having mixture of two kinds of those fine aggregates in it in order to find out how to deal with the lack of some aggregates. The findings are as follows. In terms of slump, the concrete containing sea sand and blast furnace slag has very low slump values while the concrete having the mixture of crushed fine aggregate and the other fine aggregates showed better workability. In terms of compressive strength, the concrete containing the mixture of two kinds of aggregates showed higher compressive strength. Accordingly, it is likely that the concrete containing the mixture of crushed fine aggregate, sea sand and blast furnace slag is better than the concrete with only one kind of fine aggregates in terms of the usability.

  • PURPOSES : In Korea, most designs of pavement had been mainly performed by considering CBR of granular materials before KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) and 86 AASHTO design method were introduced. Since then, the trend of the pavement designs gradually have moved to using mechanical characteristics throughout the resilient modulus based on the test results up to recently. In this study, we should like to research the mechanical characteristics of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. METHODS : The kinds of materials were tested; coarse grained subbase materials, refining aggregates base materials and recycled aggregates. RESULTS : The present study aims to figure out the resilient modulus of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. CONCLUSIONS : The test results revealed that the engineering properties of the recycled aggregates were more excellent than the those of others.
