  • The purpose of this research is particle shape evaluation of granular soil and aggregate using Digital Image Process(DIP). DIP is very useful to measure the roughness and particle shape of aggregates. Couple of aggregates, like standard sand, two different crushed stones, and two different marine aggregates, have been employed. Shape factor of two different marine aggregates is ranged 0.35 to 0.54. Crushed stone I is that of 0.74 which is highly flat, but standard sand is elongated shape. Especially, two marine aggregate showed a big difference of width and length which meaned a long shape. There is any significant difference of elongation ratio and flakiness for each aggregate with different measuring system, like direct measurement of vernier calipers and DIP method. Within the limited test results, DIP is one of useful to get the particle shape of aggregate with limitation of measuring errors and to apply the particle distribution curve.

  • This study evaluated the effect of the degree of weathering on the particle size distribution and the amount of fine particles generated in the aggregate production process during the crushing of igneous rock. Rock samples were collected from three areas with differences in strength from the Schmith hammer measurement at the aggregate quarry in Geochang, Gyeongsangbuk-do. After crushing with a jaw crusher under the same conditions in laboratory, particle size analysis, mineral analysis, chemical analysis, and weathering index were calculated. The Schmidt hammer measurements were 56, 28, and <10, and the CIA and CIW values of weathering index were also different, so the rock samples were classified into hard rock, soft rock, and weathered rock according to the weathering degree. It shows a smaller particle size distribution toward weathered rocks under the microscope, and the proportion of altered clay minerals such as sericite increased. The composition of feldspar and quartz was high for hard rock, and the ratio of muscovite and kaolinite was low. As a result of the crushing of the jaw crusher, hard rock produced a lot of coarse crushed material (13.2mm), while soft rock and weathered rock produced fine crushed material (4.75mm). The former showed the characteristics of the beta distribution curve, and the latter showed the bimodal distribution curve. The production of fine rock particles (based on 0.71mm of sieve, wt. %) increased to 13%<21%<22% in hard rock, soft rock, and weathered rock, and the greater the degree of weathering, the more fine rock particles were generated. The fine particles are recovered by the operation of the sand unit in the wet aggregate production process. Therefore, in order to minimize the amount of sludge generated in the aggregate production process, it was judged that a study on the optimal operation of cyclones could be necessary.

  • This paper mainly discusses the influence of the aggregate properties including grading, shape, content and distribution on the chloride diffusion coefficient, as well as the initiation time of steel corrosion from a probabilistic point of view. Towards this goal, a simulation method of random aggregate structure (RAS) based on elliptical particles and a procedure of finite element analysis (FEA) at meso-scale are firstly developed to perform the analysis. Next, the chloride diffusion coefficient ratio between concrete and cement paste $D_{app}/D_{cp}$ is chosen as the index to represent the effect of aggregates on the chloride diffusion process. Identification of the random distribution of this index demonstrates that it can be viewed as actually having a normal distribution. After that, the effect of aggregates on $D_{app}/D_{cp}$ is comprehensively studied, showing that the appropriate properties of aggregates should be decided by both of the average and the deviation of $D_{app}/D_{cp}$. Finally, a case study is conducted to demonstrate the application of this mesoscopic method in predicting the initiation time of steel corrosion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures. The mesoscopic probabilistic method developed in this paper can not only provide more reliable evidences on the proper grading and shape of aggregates, but also play an important role in the probability-based design method.

  • Surface of exposed aggregate concrete pavements is consists of exposed coarse aggregate by removing upper 2$\sim$3mm mortar of concrete slab. Exposed aggregate concrete pavements have advantages of maintaining low-noise and adequate skid-resistance level during the performance period. In order to provide the successful exposed concrete aggregate pavement, uniform distribution of the coarse aggregate on pavement surface through adequate the mix design and exposing method. The mix design in concrete pavement is generally designed on the basis of strength, but mix design of exposed aggregate pavement employed in this study includes the consideration of noise and skid resistance, as well as strength. Smaller of maximum coarse aggregate is known to be effective for reduce noise level. Optimum mix design and exposing method of fine-size exposed aggregate portland cement concrete pavement that can reducing the noise and maintain the adequate level of skid resistance are proposed in this study. To consider the variation of optimum exposing time due to the hardening speed of mortar by climatic condition, quantitative is also suggested measurement of hardening state.

  • Recently as efficient processing of aggregate queries for fetching desired data from sensors has been recognized as a crucial part, in-network aggregate query processing techniques are studied intensively in wireless sensor networks. Existing representative in-network aggregate query processing techniques propose routing algorithms and data structures for processing aggregate queries. However, these aggregate query processing techniques have problems such as high energy consumption in sensor nodes, low accuracy of query processing results, and long query processing time. In order to solve these problems and to enhance the efficiency of aggregate query processing in wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes Bucket-based Parallel Aggregation(BPA). BPA divides a query region into several cells according to the distribution of sensor nodes and builds a Quad-tree, and then processes aggregate queries in parallel for each cell region according to routing. And it sends data in duplicate by removing redundant data, which, in turn, enhances the accuracy of query processing results. Also, BPA uses a bucket-based data structure in aggregate query processing, and divides and conquers the bucket data structure adaptively according to the number of data in the bucket. In addition, BPA compresses data in order to reduce the size of data in the bucket and performs data transmission filtering when each sensor node sends data. Finally, in this paper, we prove its superiority through various experiments using sensor data.

  • The concrete used most in construction materials. There is an overcrowded iron dimensions use of the concrete at time of the other concrete theory on the reinforcing rod back which did congestion and compares it with this, and there are more few dimensions of the aggregate than concrete, and quantity of aggregate passage is superior in mortar than concrete. If a volume rate of the aggregate writes mortar than concrete against this, therefore, unit amount increases, and quantity of paste increases and quantity of dry shrinkage than increase concrete. However, I let I regulate lay priest distribution of the aggregate, and the results rates increase and reduce unit amount and decrease quantity of dry shrinkage, and separation resistance and the gap passage characteristics are judged because it can be it in a substitute document of very superior concrete. I came to carry out the study that I watched to let I was useful a little more and do the improvement repair of a become building wall body, a basement pillar and repair reinforcement of the assistant in the reinforcing rod back, the old age when I made congestion here. I regulated lay priest distribution of the aggregate in the study and regulated substitution rate of the aggregate (40%, 50%, 60%) and divided W/C 30%, 40% standards and produced mortar and I compared quantity of air by this, slump, compression robbery and showed it this time.

  • Increase in demotion and repair works on buildings in the construction market generates a large amount of construction waste. Recycling of construction waste is important for saving of resources, preservation of environment and constant advance of the construction industry. Accordingly, the environmental and economic value of recycled aggregate, which is produced after waste concrete is crushed, is increasingly highlighted. It is generally known that compared to concrete made of ordinary aggregate, concrete made of recycled aggregate has low quality, and the low quality is dependent on the amount of the bonding heterogeneous (cement paste and mortar) as well as the amount of the pores within the bonding heterogeneous. Reports on carbonation mechanism shows that the pores of cement-based materials are filled up by the progress of carbonation. Therefore, this study aims at an estimation of the period for optimum carbonation reforming appropriate for the thickness of the bonding heterogeneous of recycled aggregate, based on carbonation mechanism, with a view to improving the product quality by means of filling up the pores of the bonding heterogeneous of recycled aggregate. This study drew the carbonation depth according to the passage of age by calculating the bonding ratio and bonding thickness of the bonding heterogeneous as against the particle size distribution of recycled aggregate as well as by chemical quantitative analysis according to the age of accelerated carbonation of mock-up samples imitating bonding heterogeneous. Based on the correlation between the age of accelerated carbonation and carbonation depth, this study also proposed the estimated period of carbonation reforming of recycled aggregate appropriate for the thickness of the bonding heterogeneous.

  • In this work, we present the results of our empirical study on 802.11 wireless LAN network traffic. We collect the packet trace from existing campus wireless LAN infra-structure. We analyzed four different data sets: aggregate traffic, upstream traffic, downstream traffic, tcp only packet trace from aggregate traffic. We analyze the time series aspect of underlying traffic (byte count process and packet count process), marginal distribution of time series, and packet size distribution. We found that in all four data sets there exist long-range dependent property in byte count and packet count process. Inter-arrival distribution is well fitted with Pareto distribution. Upstream traffic, i.e. from the user to Internet, exhibits significant difference in its packet size distribution from the rests. Average packet size of upstream traffic is 151.7 byte while average packet size of the rest of the data sets are all greater than 260 bytes. Packets with full data payloads constitutes 3% and 10% in upstream traffic and the downstream traffic, respectively. Despite the significant difference in packet size distribution, all four data sets have similar Hurst values. The Hurst alone does not properly explain the stochastic characteristics of the underlying traffic. We model the underlying traffic using fractional-ARIMA (FARIMA) and fractional Gaussian Noise (FGN). While the fractional Gaussian Noise based method is computationally more efficient, FARIMA exhibits superior performance in accurately modeling the underlying traffic.

  • Ready-mixed shotcrete that mixed with high quality aggregate and can improve construction quality is produced in a dry mortar plant and transported to construction sites. Because of using aggregate that produced in a special plant, Ready-mixed shotcrete has many advantages : good grain-size distribution, minimum stone powder, high quality and standardization material, etc. In this basic study different from the existing study that limited to additive and accelerator, the improvement of aggregate quality was tried to upgrade the shotcrete performance. The investigation about the construction conditions of shotcrete was performed and the result of an opinion poll was analyzed for a good grasp of the problems in domestic shotcrete quality. Pilot Plant Test was also performed to minimize the material segregation in plant manufacturing process. In additions, the field test was performed to find the optimum contents of synthetic fiber, appearing the same flexible toughness with that of steel fiber, and to find the optimum replacement ratio of blast furnace slag.

  • Segregation in asphalt pavements occurs as a result of the non-uniform distribution of coarse and fine aggregates and causes premature distresses, such as cracking, raveling, and stripping. The effect of segregation on rutting, however, has not been clearly identified. Experimental and analytical work performed in this study indicates that rutting performance is affected by segregation of mixtures. However, the aggregate structure of mixtures appears to be a more critical factor that determines the rutting performance, rather than the level of segregation. Based on the field mixtures evaluated, an increase of coarse aggregate volume in an asphalt mixture is an important factor that results in good rutting performance. This effect holds true for mixtures with lower levels of air voids, but for mixtures with higher levels of air voids, the air voids effect becomes dominant, resulting in a reduction in rutting performance. An air void content of 10% appears to be a threshold that determines the rutting performance of Superpave mixtures. Once the air void content exceeds 10%, the rutting performance of Superpave mixtures decreases significantly, despite the coarse aggregate volume.
