In this paper, degradation in field-aged PV modules including degradation of interconnect, discoloration of encapsulant and hot spot have been observed and analyzed. From the results, photovoltaic module installed for 6 years shows around 16% drop of electrical properties due to the interconnect degradation and PV module passed 18 years has been found to drop of around 20% mainly by the encapsulant discoloration. Furthermore the difference between low and high temperature of PV array at hot spot goes up to $30^{\circ}C$ and it leads to interconnect degradation. On the other hands, the temperature difference was observed to be around $15^{\circ}C$ at the encapsulant discoloration spot of PV array.

Since the degradation caused by corrosion is restricted to the surface of materials, conventional ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation methods based on ultrasonic bulk waves are not applicable to characterization of the corrosion degradation. To take care of this difficulty, a new nondestructive evaluation method that uses ultrasonic backward radiation has been proposed recently. This paper explores the potential of this newly developed method for nondestructive characterization and in-situ monitoring of corrosion degradation. Specifically, backward radiated ultrasounds from aged thermo-mechanically controlled process (TMCP) steel specimens by corrosion fatigue were measured and their characteristics were correlated to those of the aged specimens. The excellent correlation observed in the present study demonstrates the high potential of the backward radiated ultrasound as an effective tool for nondestructive characterization of corrosion degradation. In addition, the potential of the backward radiated ultrasound to in-situ monitoring of corrosion degradation is under current investigation.
Influence of applied electric field on the low temperature degradation of 3 mol% YaO3 stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals(3Y-TZP) was investigated using X-ray diffractometry of specimens aged under the dc field of 1.1 kV/mm in silicone oil both of 12$0^{\circ}C$-21$0^{\circ}C$. After the aging, the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation was observed only on the specimen surface of 3Y-TZP faced to the anode. This indicated that the surface was overcrowded with oxygen ions as a result of diffusion of oxygen vacancies toward the cathode-sided surface. To elucidate an influence of the applying time of the electric field on the extent of the degradation of 3Y-TZP in air, specimens were aged fore 0-2 hours under the electric field in the oil bath of 12$0^{\circ}C$ and then subsequently aged for 3h at 22$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The longer the specimens were aged under the field, the more extensive the transformation to the monoclinic phase was on the specimen surface faced to the cathode, probably originated from a high diffusion rate of oxygen ions due to a steep oxygen vacancy concentration gradient.
The physicochemical characteristics and oxidative stability of wet-aged and dry-aged pork cuts were investigated at different aging periods (1, 7, 14 and 21 d). Samples were assigned into four groups in terms of shoulder blade-wet aging (SW), shoulder blade-dry aging (SD), belly-wet aging (BW), and belly-dry aging (BD). SD showed significantly higher pH at 21 d of aging than the other samples. Wet-aged cuts had significantly higher released water (RW) %, lightness ($L^*$) and shear force compared to the dry-aged meats. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis showed greater degradation of proteins for dry-aged cuts than the wet-aged cuts. At the end of aging, wet-aged cuts showed significantly lower thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) value than the dry-aged samples, indicating higher oxidative stability for wet-aged pork cuts. However, dry-aging led to higher degradation of proteins resulting in increased water-holding capacity (WHC) and decreased shear force value.

In this paper, in order to investigate the lifetime of oil-paper insulation, specimens were artificially aged with thermal and electrical multiple stresses. Accelerated ageing factors and equivalent operating years for each aging temperatures were derived from results of tensile strengths for the aged paper specimens. Also, the evaluation for the multi-stress aged specimens were carried out through the measurement of impulse breakdown voltage at high temperature of $85^{\circ}C$. The lifetimes of the oil-paper insulations were calculated with the value of 66.7 for 1.0 mm thickness specimens and 69.7 for 1.25 mm thickness specimens throughout the analysis of impulse BD voltages using equivalent operating years, which means that dielectric strengths would not be severely decreased until the mechanical lifetime limit. Therefore, for the lifetime evaluation of the oil-paper insulation, thermal aging would be considered as a dominant factor whereas electrical degradation would be less effective.

The extent of materials deterioration can be evaluated accurately by mechanical test such as impact test or creep test. But it is almost impossible to extract a large test specimen from in-service components. Thus material degradation evaluation by non-destructive method is earnestly required. In this paper, the material degradation for virgin and several aged materials of a Cr-Mo-V steel, which is an candidated as structural material of the turbine casing components for electric power plant, is nondestructively evaluated by reactivation polarization testing method. And, the results obtained from the test are compared with those in small punch(SP) tests recommended as a semi-nondestructive testing method using miniaturized specimen. In contrast to the aged materials up to 1,000hrs which exhibit the degradation behaviors with increased ${\Delta}[DBTT]_{SP}$, the improvement of mechanical property can be observed on the 2,000hrs and 3,000hrs aged materials. This is because of the softening of material due to the carbide precipitation, the increase of ferritic structures and the recovery of dislocation microstructure by long-time heat treatment. The reactivation rates($I_R/I_{Crit},\;Q_R/Q_{Crit}$) calculated by reactivation current densityt ($I_R$) and charge($Q_R$) in the polarization curves exhibit a good correlation with ${\Delta}[DBTT]_{SP}$ behaviors.
The damage of concrete due to the expansion of alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR) and thermal-chemical reactions affecting the strength of concrete is studied. The empirical equations for the variations of expansion of AAR, compressive strength and degradation of the modulus of elasticity with time, and compressive strength with degradation of the modulus of elasticity are proposed by analysing numerous experimental data. It is revealed that the expansion of AAR and compressive strength increase with time. The proposed combination of the time variations of chemical and mechanical parameters provides a satisfactory prediction of the concrete strength. Seismic analysis of the aged Koyna dam is conceded for two different long-term experimental data of concrete incorporating the proposed AAR based properties. The responses of aged Koyna dam reveal that the crest displacement of the Koyna dam significantly increases with time while the contour plots show that major principal stress at neck level reduces with time. As the modulus of elasticity decreases with ages the stress generated in the concrete structure get reduces. On the other hand with lesser value of modulus of elasticity the structure becomes more flexible and the crest displacement becomes very high that cause the seismic safety of the dam reduce.

The estimation of the remaining life for the aged components in power plant as well as chemical and petroleum plants has been recently concerned. The raw materials used in this study are the 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel which intensified P and S compositions along with the nominal compositions of ASTM A 470 standard. Five kinds of specimens with the different degradation levels were prepared by isothermal aging heat treatment at 630.deg.C. The mechanical properties and rotated bending fatigue strength of virgin and aged 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel have been investigated through the hardness, tensile, fatigue test, SEM fractograph and EDS analysis at 538.deg.C and room temperature, respectively. Thus the data of aged specimens were compared with those of virgin specimen to evaluate the aging effects. The main results obtained in this study are as follows ; The decrease of the yield and tensile strength due to degradation was distinguished until 50, 000hrs simulated service time. And it was confirmed that the considerable amount of P, Mn, Cr and S was precipitated at the grain boundary of aged material through the SEM and EDS analysis. The rotated bendingd fatigue strength at 538.deg.C of virgin, 25, 000, 50, 000, 75, 000 and 100, 000 hrs aged material was decreased 44.6 %, 49.6 %, 51.5 %, 52.4% and 53.8% than that of virgin material at 10$_{7}$cycles of room temperature, respectively. The major cracks of virgin and aged materials mainly initiated at the inclusions including Si, P and Mn compositions which were located at the outer periphery of the specimen.n.
