The body cathexis of the subjects were lower than capital city and increased according to age. 2. The self-image of the subjects were down-to-earth, modern, conventional, playing it safe, confident, stable, reserved and blending out into a crowd. The subjects with the self-image of being more sophisticated, confident, creative, stood out in a crowd, or complicated life style had higher body cathexis. 3. When the subjects were divided into segmentations according to their fashion orientation by cluster analysis, the best suitable number of groups was seven. The characteristics of seven groups were: *Fashion negatives showed low levels of fashion leadership and fashion interest, and medium level of importance of being well-dressed, and high level of antifashion attitudes. *Fashion neutrals showed medium levels of fashion leadership, fashion interest, and importnace of being-well dressed, and low level of antifashion attitudes. *Fashion uninvolveds showed low levels of fashion leadership, fashion interest, and antifashion attitudes. *Fashion followers showed high levels of fashion interest and importance of being well dressed, but low levels of fashion leadership and antifashion attitudes. *Fashion independents showed a littel bit high levels of fashion leadership, fashion interest, and importance fo being well-dressed, but low level of antifashion attitudes. *Fashion rejectors showed low levels of fashion leadership, fashion interest, and importance of being well-dressed, but high level of antifashion attitudes. 4. • School is a basic and the most fundamental facility of city planning just like other basic public facilities including the village office. Every plan is established on the basis of school. However, the problems such as the population reduction resulting from the nuclear family-zation and low birth rate, employment and welfare of the aged people resulting from "the old aged society", and the infant nursing and education resulting from a rapid increase of the working couples become notable and accordingly more requirements are being made. Reflecting this trend, the concept and operation system should be changed. Up to now, the BTL projects of the educational facilities are gaining a reputation of being efficient in terms of national budget running, but at the same time receiving negative reputation in terms of budget saving under the civil creativity and efficiency. Through upgrading the private sector investment projects into the BTO+BTL system and further into the BTO(Build Transfer Operate), we can accomplish the original goals of the private sector investment projects, and can make the education budget operation more efficient, and can greatly improve the education environments. However, we should not underestimate in this process that these facilities should not negatively affect the education environments. In any situation, the owners of schools are students.

  • This study investigates the causes of poverty in Korea since the 1997 Economic Crisis by analyzing the composition and characteristics of the poor by the types of families. While the poor largely consisted of disadvantaged groups, such as the aged, the disabled, or the female-headed families before the Crisis, families headed by working-aged and non-disabled adults have represented a larger portion of the entire poor since the Crisis. The higher overall poverty rate in 1998 mainly resulted from the rapid increase in the number of the unemployed and the high poverty rate of their families. In 1999, the larger number of the unemployed poor exited from poverty by getting a job in the labor market, contributing to the reduction in the overall poverty rate. The significant number of families headed by working adults were poor in 1998, and the size of these working poor was not reduced in 1999. The poverty among this group has been caused by lowered wage rates and deteriorating job security. The findings from this study suggest that anti-poverty policies in Korea be improved to provide better income and employment assistance to the non-working poor and, more importantly, be extended to effectively reduce poverty among the working low-income families.

  • Using the 1999 National Survey of America's Families(NSAF), this study investigated the factors that affect child care expenses and examined financial and social support of single mother families in the U. S. In this study, 4,676 single mother families with children aged twelve and under are included for the analytical sample. About half of all single mother families with children under age 12 had some amount of child care expenses in 1999. Monthly child care expenses for those who had child care expenses was an average of $255 and it accounted for about 15 percent of their family earnings. The profile of financial and social support showed that about one-quarter of single mothers received financial support for child care, one-fifth received free child care by relatives and about 40 percent received child support payments from nonresident fathers. Tobit analysis results showed that the significant factors that affected child care expenses were mother's age, marital status, educational level, employment status, the numbers of children aged 0-5, family income, the receipt of public assistance and financial support for child care.

  • Objective: The goal of this study was to assess work ability of Korean workers in the shipbuilding industry. Background: Old age is associated with inevitable time-dependent losses in physical capabilities. However the maintenance of physical capabilities is essential for continuing independence in old age. The work ability index(WAI) was constructed to reveal how well a worker is able to perform his or her work. Method: The WAI is a kind of survey methods developed to estimate the work capacity of aged workers by the Finish Institute of Occupational Health(FIOH) in 1998. The difference of the WAI between groups in each category was tested using the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the relationship between the WAI and the workers' ages was tested by the Correlation test. Results: This study surveyed 2,709 persons working in the shipbuilding industry in Korea. The average WAI score for all workers was 40.0 denoting a Good Level. Also, workers in the shipbuilding industry had lower work ability, as compared to the results of other industries. The WAI was analyzed for different age groups(${\leq}29$; 30~34; 35~39; 40~44; 45~49; 50~54; ${\geq}55$). The results of Kruskal-Wallis test showed that significant difference was identified on the effect of aging(p<0.05). Conclusion: Advanced countries like the Finland showed decreasing tendency in good and excellent levels as aged, but there was no decreasing tendency in Korean population. The results may be attributable to the general characteristics of Korean society, such as poor social security and burden caused by role of the patriarch. It may bring forth higher work ability in aged population even their physical condition is getting worse. Application: This finding could be used for developing more accurate assessment tool of work ability for working environment.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify types of quality of life (QoL) based on the 5 dimensions of EQ-5D and predict factors affecting types of QoL. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis using data from the Korean Health Panel Survey-II(2012). Participants were 2,071 middle-aged men who had completed the additional survey in 2012 and the data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and Mplus 5.21 for latent analysis. Results: Three latent classes of QoL were identified: serious (2.4% of the sample), threatened (15.5%), and stable types (82.0%). The types and characteristics of QoL among the latent classes differed. On comparing latent type 1 with latent type 2, the socioeconomic status (p<.05), employment status (p<.05), and subjective health status (p<.001) were found to be significant. On comparing latent type 1 with latent type 3, the socioeconomic status (p<.05), current smoking status (p<.001), and subjective health status (p<.001) were found to be significant. On comparing latent type 2 with latent type 3, the socioeconomic status (p<.05), subjective health status (p<.001), stress (p<.001) were found to be significant. Conclusion: The results showed significant heterogeneity in types of QoL and the predictors of QoL by types were different. These findings provide basic information for developing nursing interventions to improve QoL. Specific characteristics depending on the subtypes should be considered during the development of interventions.

  • Purpose: This study aims to explore the association between unemployment and depression in people from different age groups ranging from 18 to 65 years old. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. We performed bivariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression on the 2010 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data from 12 states in the United States. Results: On a sample comprised of n=53,406 individuals, of whom 2,546 (7.8%) were identified as being depressed and 3,448 (10.6%) as unemployed, we found that individuals aged 61~65 years have a lower depression risk compared to those aged 18-25 after adjusting for other variables including employment status. However, people from 61~65 have higher increased risk of depression when unemployed compared to other age groups in all three models tested (3.95 times higher in unemployed people in model 1, and 2.81 times higher in model 2 and model 3). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that there may need to be more focus on older adults who are unemployed, with associated support services for their mental health. The results of our study indicate that although older adults are less likely to be unemployed, there are more likely to experience depression if they are unemployed (once other confounding factors are taken into account) than younger adults. Policies and interventions can be developed to address not only the physical difficulties but also the mental challenges with which older adults can be at risk facing in case of unemployment.
