  • This study was intended to analyze clothing preference images according to the age groups (30's, 40's, 50's and 60's) and to clarify the differences between present clothing preference images and that of the future after 60. The data was collected through a questionnaire and a total of 482 questionnaires on the age groups ranging from 30s through 60s were used in the analysis. As for the present clothing preference images in accordance with age groups, the younger age groups in the range of 30's and 40's presented higher scores in most of these images. But the older age groups in the 50's and 60's had lower scores in most of these images. On the contrary, the older age groups had higher scores than the younger age groups with respect to similar, mature, magnificent, innocent, plump and virtuous images. As for the future clothing preference images after 60 in the elegant, luxurious, graceful, intellectual, chic, urbane, slimy and sociable images, the age groups in the 30's and 40's presented higher scores than the age groups in the 50's and 60's did. However, with respect to the youth-oriented images such as fashionable, innocent, remarkable, cute and vigorous images, the age group in the 60's had a higher score than the age group in the 30's, 40's and 50's did. There were differences between the present clothing preference images and future clothing preference images after 60. The 30's and 40's presented distinctively different clothing preference images in the present and future after 60. Thus, distinct images were pursued in the older age group. The 50s showed closest images to that of the older age group, presenting more conservative inclination in clothing preferences.

  • For design of early childhood children's footwear, this study was to analyze the foot type by factor analysis and cluster analysis. This study was performed 200 male and 200 female early childhood children from 3 to 6 years, reported in part 1. The result was as follows : 1. There are no significant differences concerning significances, factor loading, eigenvalues, and contribution rates of factor among the results abtained by analyzing the male, female and both sexes data. 2. The 1st factor signifies the size factor that represents total foot mass. The average scores of the 1st factor significantly increase with age in both sexes, and those scores of male are significantly higher than those of female. 3. The End factor signifies the height of Tarsal, Heel and Arch. The average scores of the 2nd factor significantly increase with age in both sexes, and there are no significant differences between the average scores of male and female's except the age 3. 4. The 3rd factor signifies the shape of Metatarso-phalanx angle. The average scores of the 3rd factor significantly decrease with age in female. 5. There are four clusters selected by fastcluster in every age group. The characteristics of four clusters of every age group are different significantly.

  • Based on the data representing four typical Korean pine forest types, the age structure, DBH distribution, species composition, and forking rule were systemically analyzed for old-growth Korean pine forest in Liangshui Nature Reserve, northeast China. The age structure of Korean pine trees was strongly uneven-aged with one dominated peak following normal distribution, and age of trees varied from 100 to 180 years within a stand. The DBH and height differences in same age class (20 years) varied from 28 cm~64 cm and 5 to 20 m, respectively. Many conifer and hard wood species, such as spruce, fir, costata birch, basswood, oak, and elm, were mixed with dominated trees of Korean pine. The canopy of the old-growth Korean pine forest can be divided into two layers, and differences of mean age and height between Layer I and Layer II were ranged 80~150 years and 7~13 m, respectively. The Weibull function was used to model the diameter distribution and performed well to describe size-class distribution either with a single peak in over-story canopy and inverse J-shape in under-story canopy for old-growth Korean pine stands. The forking height of Korean pine trees ranged from 16m to 24 m (mean 19.4 m) and tree age about 120 to 160 years old. The results will provide a scientific basis to protect and recover the ecosystem of natural old-growth Korean pine and also provide the model in management of Korean pine plantation.

  • The purpose of the present research was to study developmental trends in and relationships between recall, organizational strategy, and metamemory in young children. The subjects were 84 children, 14 boys and 14 girls at each age level, 4, 6, and 8. Two tasks (memory task & metamemory task) were used to assess children's recall, organizational strategy, and metamemory based on Sodian et al.(1986). All subjects were randomly assigned either to the play-and-remember condition or to the sort-and-remember condition. The two tasks were administered to children individually with the memory task followed by the metamemory task. The data were analysed by the statistical methods of two-way ANOVA, Student-Newman-Keuls post hoc test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Kendall's Tau. Children's recall (free, conceptually-cued, and perceptually-cued) level increased with age. There were significant experimental condition differences in free recall and conceptually-cued recall, but not in perceptually-cued recall. Children's organizational strategy showed differential developmental trends by experimental condition. Use of conceptual strategy at both encoding and retrieval increased with age in both experimental conditions. Use of perceptual strategy (PS) at encoding showed an inverted-U age effect in the play-and-remember condition, but PS decreased linearly with age in the sort-and-remember condition. There were significant age differences in metamemory, and there were significant correlations between recall and organizational strategy.

  • This study investigated the effects of the age of Korean speakers, place of articulation, and phonation types on voice onset time (VOT) of stops. Twenty-five preschoolers, 25 schoolers, and 25 adults who had no history of speech and language impairment produced plosives in /VCV/ words in isolation. A three-way ($3{\times}3{\times}3$) mixed design was used with the age of speakers (preschoolers, schoolers, adults) as a between-subject factor, the place of articulation (bilabials, alveolars, velars) and phonation types (plain, tense, aspirated consonants) as a within-subject factor. The dependent measure was the VOT values. Results revealed that three main effects were statistically significant. Preschoolers exhibited longer VOTs than adults (p<.05). There were significant differences in VOTs among the place of articulation, showing that speakers had the longest VOTs for velars (velars > alvelars > bilabials) (all p<.05). In addition, the VOTs for aspirated consonants were longer than those for plain and tense consonants, and the differences were significant among three phonation types (aspirated > tense > plain) (all p<.05). The current results suggested that VOTs would be linked to age and development, and schoolers over the age of 11 years had achieved adult-like VOTs. Moreover, the place of articulation and phonation types in Korean stops showed marked factors in normal speakers' VOT patterns.

  • Background and Objectives : Syllable Maximum Repetition Rate(MRR) is ability to repeat rapidly the articulators and is assessed for oromechanism function as one of the MPT. MRR is measured by rate(counts/sec), also simultaneously considered accuracy and consistency. The objective of the present was to examine stimuli effects and age and sex differences for MRR. Materials and Method : This study was participated 60 normal males and females(1 : 1) who were divided into two groups young(<40 years old) and old($\geq$40 years old). Stimuli were $/{P^=}a/,/{t^=}a/,/{k^=}a/,/{P^h}a/,/{t^h}a/,/{k^h}a/,/{P^=}{at^=}{ak^=}a/$ for, manner(tense and aspirated) of articulation, $/{p^h}{at^h}{ak^h}a/,/{t^h}{ap^h}{ak^h}a/$ for the effect of the order of syllable, glide /u-i/ for coordination of lip and tongue, interrupted vowel /i/ for laryngeal function. Results : There were little differences in two age groups and sex and manner of articulation for MRR tasks. The fastest average MRR of the single syllable included in this study was $/{t^=}a/$. significant differences existed between MRR for ${p^h}{at^h}{ak^h}a/ and /{t^h}{ap^h}{ak^h}a/$, which suggested that MRR was affected by the order of the syllables. MRR for interrupted vowel /i/ was about 2 counts/sec slower than average rate of 1 syllables. Conclusion : From these results, the order of the syllables was a crucial variable in MRR. rather than age or sex. There were no difference age, sex and manner of rate. The interrupted vowel repetition rate was slightly slow used and can provide basic information to assess the speech mechanism and can be useful to develop effective stimuli to differentiate the disordered group from normal.

  • This study aims to survey the satisfaction level with the fit of ready-made suits(jackets and pants) among adult males and thereby to show its differences by the age group and body type. The respondents to the questionnaire survey were 465 males, aged 20 through 59 years. The conclusions are as follows: 1. The average satisfaction level for the fit of each item ranged from 2.65 to 3.57, with the higher level found in jackets than in pants, and also in circumference parts than in length parts 2. The satisfaction level for the fit by the age of adult males showed inter-group differences in the parts of jacket length, sleeve length, shoulder width, sleeve openings, and sleeve band width for jackets; and pant length of pants. 3. The satisfaction level for the fit by the body type of adult males indicated into-group differences in chest circumference of jackets only. 4. The satisfaction level for the fit, with the exclusion of the age and body type relationship showed that adult males are affected more by the age than by the body type. 5. In the repair frequency by the item, pants(45.6%) showed a higher level than jackets(24.7%). The parts with a high repair level by the item were jacket length(8.4%) and steeve length(19.8%) for jackets; and pant length(42.4%) and waist circumference(8.4%) for pants.

  • This study aims to categorize age groups for shoes manufacturing including shoes size and boot tree development for Koreans. In order to carry out the research, the characteristics of different parts of foot in relation to size are analyzed according to age and sex, making use of human body measurement database. As a result of statistical analysis, it was found that the measurement items such as foot length, metatarsal tibiale, foot breadth and instep circumference of a person reached the range of standard deviation and average numerical figures of an adult group (18-24) from the age of 14 in men's case, and from 12 for women's case, which indicates the time of completion of their foot growth. Based on these findings where males of 14 years old and females of 12 are within similar measurement range to adults, it is necessary to categorize the age groups for shoe sizing system into the following four groups: males 13 years old or under, males 14 years old or over, females 11 years or under, and females 12 years or over. The proportional measurement produced by dividing each measurement item of foot parts by foot length was compared in an independent samples t-test, and there were meaningful differences according to different foot shapes of the two age groups of males 13 or under - males 14 or over, and females 11 or under - females 12 or over. Also, the independent samples t-test for the age groups of males 13 or under - females 11 or under, and males 14 or over - female 12 or over, showed similar meaningful differences, which indicates the differences in foot shapes of male and female during the period of growth.
