We study polarization-dependent spontaneous emission (SE) rate and light extraction efficiency (LEE) in localized-surface-plasmon (LSP)-coupled light emitting diodes (LEDs). The closely packed seven $Ag/SiO_2$ core-shell (CS) nanoparticles (NPs) lie on top of the GaN surface for LSP coupling with a radiated dipole. According to the dipole direction, both the SE rate and the LEE are significantly modified by the LSP effect at the $Ag/SiO_2$ CS NPs when the size of Ag, the thickness of $SiO_2$, and the position of the dipole source are varied. The enhancement of the SE rate is related to an induced dipole effect at the Ag, and the high LEE is caused by light scattering with an LSP mode at $Ag/SiO_2$ CS NPs. We suggest the optimum position of the quantum well (QW) in blue InGaN/GaN LEDs with $Ag/SiO_2$ CS NPs for practical application.

Silver nanopowders were prepared from silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-EHCB) complexes by simple thermal reduction at $85^{\circ}C$ without any reducing agent in organic solvent. 2-Ethylhexylammonium 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (EHAEHC) was investigated in terms of their abilities to stabilize the silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) and its subsequent effects on the preventing aggregation between Ag-NPs. Conditions (concentration of stabilizer and reaction time) used to reduce Ag-EHCB complex were systematically varied to determine their effects on the sizes of Ag-NPs. The formation of the stabilized Ag-NPs were easily monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy and characterized by TGA, TEM, SEM and XRD. When EHAEHC was used as a stabilizer, Ag-NPs of 10-30 nm in diameter were easily obtained in high yield. Silver patterns were obtained from a silver nano-paste by heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ in air and were found to have resistivity values of $2.9{\times}10^{-8}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}m$.

In this work, the high power CW Nd:YAG laser has been used for thermal treatment of inkjet printed Ag films-involving eliminating organic additives (dispersant, binder, and organic solvent) of Ag ink and annealing Ag nanoparticles. By optimizing laser parameters, such as laser power and defocusing value, the laser energy can totally be converted to heat energy, which is used to thermal treatment of inkjet printed Ag films. This results in controlling the microstructures and the resistivity of films. We investigated the thermal diffusion mechanisms during laser annealing and the resulting microstructures. The impact of high power laser annealing on microstructures and electrical characteristic of inkjet printed Ag films is compared to those of the films annealed by a conventional furnace annealing. Focused ion beam (FIB) channeling image shows that the laser annealed Ag films have large columnar grains and dense structure (void free), while furnace annealed films have tiny grains and exhibit void formation. Due to these microstructural characteristics of laser annealed films, it has better electrical property (low resistivity) compared to furnace annealed samples.
In this study, we have investigated the flow rate effects of Ag nanoparticle (NP) suspensions on the progress of the cell cycle by using a microfluidic image cytometry (${\mu}FIC$)-based approach. Compared with the conventional "static" exposure conditions, enhancements in G2 phase arrest were observed for the cells under continuously flowing "dynamic" exposure conditions. The "dynamic" exposure conditions, which mimic in vivo systems, induced an enhanced cytotoxicity by accelerating G2 phase arrest and subsequent apoptosis processes. Moreover, we have also shown that the increases in delivered NP dose due to the continuous supply of Ag NPs contributed dominantly to the enhanced cytotoxicity observed under the "dynamic" exposure conditions, while the shear stress caused by these slowly flowing fluids (i.e., flow rates of 6 and $30{\mu}L/h$) had only a minor influence on the observed enhancement in cytotoxicity.
The adsorption structure and binding of maleimide (MI) and succinimide (SI) on silver nanocolloidal surfaces have been comparatively investigated by means of pH-varied surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The two molecules appeared not to adsorb onto Ag surfaces at pH values below 5. The appearance of a ring ν (CH) band at ~3100 $cm^{-1}$ denoted the standing geometry of MI’s aromatic ring on Ag. The absence or weakness of in-plane vibrational modes of MI and SI also supported a perpendicular orientation of MI and SI on Ag from the electromagnetic selection rule. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to examine the vibrational frequencies of MI’s and SI’s neutral and anionic states.
Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method from aqueous silver nitrate solution and borohybride as a reduction agent. The morphology, particle size and shape were influenced by the reaction conditions such as the concentration of $AgNO_3$, a reduction agent and addition of surfactant. The particle size decreased with decreasing the concentration of silver nitrate and using a borohydride. The obtained Ag particles showed the spherical shape with the range of 10-20 nm.
A study that copolymerized Ag nanoparticle and furfuryl isocyanate with the crosslinking agent EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), MA (methacrylic acid) and the initiating agent AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) is presented. Measurement of the physical characteristics of the produced macromolecule showed that the water content is 32.08~32.67%, refractive index 1.446~1.448, visible light transparency 83.2~67.6%, contact angle $68.2{\sim}83.5^{\circ}$ and tensile strength 0.541~0.755 kgf. It is also demonstrated that the addition of Ag nanoparticles is associated with the reduction of UV-B transmittance and increase in tensile strength. The results show that the produced copolymer can be used as a material for ophthalmic lenses with durability and UV-blocking properties.

Polymer-fullerene based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells can be fabricated in large area using low-cost roll-to-roll manufacturing methods. However, because of the low mobility of the BHJ materials, there is competition between the sweep-out of the photogenerated carriers by the built-in potential and recombination within the thin BHJ film [12-15]. Useful film thicknesses are limited by recombination. Thus, there is a need to increase the absorption by the BHJ film without increasing film thickness. Metal nanoparticles exhibit localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) which couple strongly to the incident light. In addition, relatively large metallic nanoparticles can reflect and scatter the light and thereby increase the optical path length within the BHJ film. Thus, the addition of metal nanoparticles into BHJ films offers the possibility of enhanced absorption and correspondingly enhanced photo-generation of mobile carriers. In this work, we have demonstrated several positive effects of shape controlled Au and Ag nanoparticles in organic P3HT/PC70BM, PCDTBT/PC70BM, Si-PCPDTBT/PC70BM BHJ-based PV devices. The use of an optimized concentration of Au and Ag nanomaterials in the BHJ film increases Jsc, FF, and the IPCE. These improvements result from a combination of enhanced light absorption caused by the light scattering of the nanomaterials in an active layer. Some of the metals induce the plasmon light concentration at specific wavelength. Moreover, improved charge transport results in low series resistance.
Functional nanomaterial is expected to have improved capacities on various fields. Especially, metal nanoparticles dispersed in polymer matrix and metal nanofiber, one of the functional nanomaterials, are able to achieve improvement of property in the electric and other related fields. In this study, the fabrication of metal (Ag) nanoparticle dispersed nanofibers were attempted. The Ag nanoparticle dispersed polymer nanofiber and Ag nanofiber were fabricated by electrospinning method using electric force. First, PVP/$AgNO_3$ nanofibers were synthesized by electrospinning in $18{\sim}22kV$ voltage with the starting materials (Ag-nitrate) added polymer (PVP; poly (vinylpyrrolidone)). Then Ag nanoparticle dispersed polymer nanofibers were fabricated to reduce hydrogen reduction at $150^{\circ}C$ for 3hr. And Ag nanofibers were synthesized by the decomposited of PVP at $300{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ for 3hr. The nanofibers were analyzed by XRD, TGA, FE-SEM and TEM. The experimental results showed that the Ag nanofibers could be applied in many fields as an advanced material.

Copolymeric silver nanocomposite hydrogels were synthesized by using acryloyl phenylalanine (APA), N'-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and crosslinked by N,N-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) via radical redox polymerization. Present study allows entrapping silver nanoparticles into hydrogel networks. UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies confirmed the formation of silver nanoparticles in hydrogel matrix. 11% of weight loss difference between hydrogel and silver nanocomposite hydrogel is clearly indicates the formation and silver nanoparticles by thermo-gravimetrical analysis. The order of swelling capacity values of hydrogels and silver nanocmposite hydrogels were found to be in the order of placebo copolymeric hydrogel >Ag-copolymeric silver nanocomposite hydrogels. The particle size of silver nanoparticles was analysed and are in the range of 5 - 10 nm which has been confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as particle size analysis. The silver nanocomposite hydrogel has shown very good antibacterial activity on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteriocides.
