Line heating with water cooling is generally adapted process in the shipyards for the forming hull surface. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model of thermal deformation in water cooling process after the line heating. In order to simulate the cooling process, heat transfer analysis was performed by assuming the effects of water cooling as a negative heat-source. Experiment for the line heating with water cooling was performed for 9 models of plates in order to verify the cooling model. By using the suggested model for the water cooling process, it could be observed that the present method predict the plate deformations in the line heating more accurately.
In order to evaluate the gravity-injection capability to maintain core cooling after a loss-of-shutdown-cooling event during shutdown operation, the plant conditions of the Yong Gwang Units 3&4 were reviewed. The six cases of possible gravity-injection paths from the refueling water tank (RWT) were identified and the thermal-hydraulic analyses were performed using the RELAP5/MOD3.2 code. The core cooling capability was significantly dependent on the gravity-injection path, the RCS opening, and the injection rate. In the cases with the pressurizer manway opening higher than the RWT water level, the coolant was held up in the pressurizer and the system pressure continued increasing after gravity-injection. The gravity injection eventually stopped due to the high system pressure and the core was uncovered. In the cases with the injection path and opening on the same leg side, the core cooling was dependent on whether the water injected from the RWT passed the core region or not. However, in the cases with the injection path and opening on the different leg side, the system was well depressurized after gravity-injection and the core boiling was successfully prevented for a long-term transient. In addition, from the sensitivity study on the gravity-injection flow rate, it was found that about 54 kg/s of injection rate was required to maintain the core cooling and the core cooling could be provided for about 10.6 hours after event with that injection rate from the RWT. Those analysis results would provide useful information to operators coping with the event.
The post-fire behavior of structural elements and the cooling process has always been one of the main concerns of the structural engineers. The structures can be cooled at different rates, where they affect the structure's behavior. In the present study, a numerical model has been developed using the Abaqus program to investigate the effect of cooling rate on the post-fire behavior of the CFST column. To verify the model, results of an experimental study performed on CFST columns within a full heating and cooling cycle have been used. In this model, coMParison of the residual strength has been employed in order to examine the behavior of CFST column under different cooling rates. Furthermore, a parametric study was carried out on the strength of steel and concrete, the height of the specimens, the axial load ratio and the cross-sectional shape of the specimen through the proposed model. It was observed that the cooling rate affects the behavior of the column after the fire, and thus the higher the specimen's temperature is, the more effect it has on the behavior. It was also noticed that water cooling had slightly more residual strength than natural cooling. Furthermore, it was recognized from the parametric study, that by increasing the strength of steel and concrete and the load ratio, as well as modifying the cross-sectional shape from circular to square, residual strength of column at the cooling phase was less than that of the heating phase. In addition, with reducing column height, no change was witnessed in the column behavior after the cooling phase.
In this study, We investigated the effect of foot cooling on the reduction of body temperature after hard exercise at the high temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. We performed a total of 30 subjects, and the subjects performed treadmill exercise for 30 minutes. We produced the cooling device to cool the foot using Peltier module. After the end of the exercise, We performed normal recovery method and cooling recovery method(one foot, both feet) for 1 hour on the same indoor environmental conditions and confirmed the change of body temperature of subjects. The results of deep body temperature measurement showed average $38.78{\pm}0.22^{\circ}C$ to $38.54{\pm}0.15^{\circ}C$ when the normal recovery method was performed. Cooling recovery method on one foot showed average $38.69{\pm}0.14^{\circ}C$ to average $38.06{\pm}0.17^{\circ}C$ and Cooling recovery method on both feet showed average $38.69{\pm}0.15^{\circ}C$ to average $37.84{\pm}0.21^{\circ}C$. There was a significant difference between the normal recovery method and the one foot cooling recovery method(p < .05), there was a significant difference between the normal recovery method and the both feet cooling recovery method(p < .05) and there was a significant difference between the one foot cooling recovery method and the both feet cooling recovery method(p < .05). Body temperature showed the lowest decrease rate when the normal recovery method was performed, and body temperature showed the highest decrease rate when the both feet cooling recovery method was performed. Therefore, recovery of cooling on the foot after hard exercise have decreased body temperature, delay fatigue in the body, and will be contributed to improvement of athlete performance.

We investigated the exercise-induced changes in the serum concentration of several minerals in horses. Four welltrained Thoroughbred horses performed exercise for 5 d. The blood hemoglobin (Hb) concentration increased during exercise, recovered to the pre-exercise level immediately after cooling down and did not change again up till the end of experiment. The changes in serum zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) concentrations were similar to those of blood Hb during the experiment. The serum magnesium (Mg), inorganic phosphorus (Pi) and iron (Fe) concentrations also increased during exercise. Though the serum Pi concentration recovered to the pre-exercise level immediately after the cooling down, it decreased further before the end of the experiment. The serum Mg concentration was lower immediately after cooling down than its pre-exercise level but gradually recovered from the temporal reduction. The recovery of the serum Fe concentration was delayed compared to that of other minerals and recovered 2 h after cooling down. The serum calcium (Ca) concentration did not change during exercise but rapidly decreased after cooling down. As a result, it was lower immediately after cooling down than its pre-exercise level. It recovered, however, to the pre-exercise level 2 h after cooling down. The temporal increase in the serum concentrations of all minerals except Ca is considered to result from hemoconcentration induced by exercise and the stable concentration of the serum Ca during exercise is possibly due to its strict regulation of homeostasis. These results indicate that the serum concentration of each mineral responds differently to exercise in horses, which may be due to the difference in metabolism among these minerals.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the changes in hardness and microstructure of a dental multipurpose alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate and holding time by characterizing the changes in hardness and microstructure after simulated firing with various cooling rates and holding times. Methods: Before hardness testing, the specimens were solution treated and then were rapidly quenched into ice brine. The specimens were completely fired in furnace. Hardness measurements were made using a Vickers microhardness tester. The specimens were examined at 15 kV using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Results: The maximum hardness value was obtained at stage 0 after simulated firing with various cooling rates (quick cooling, stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3). By the repetitive firing, the hardness of the tested alloy decreased gradually. By holding the specimen at $500^{\circ}C$ for 10-20min after simulated firing, the hardness increased apparently. However, to hold the alloy for long periods of time in the relatively high temperature after simulated firing resulted in the formation of thick oxidation layer. The oxide film formed on the surface of the alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate, which was mainly composed of O and Zn. Conclusion: It is reasonable to hold the alloy at $500^{\circ}C$ for 10-20min after complete firing in other to improve the final hardness of the alloy.
Temperature has important effect on mechanical properties of wood. These effect needs to be understood and taken into account in the structural use of wood. Furthermore, the effect of cooling after exposing to high temperature must be explained. In this study, the effect of temperature, exposure time, specific gravity, and cooling on bending properties were investigated. The boundary temperatures at which bending MOE and MOR reduced rapidly were approximately $200^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$, respectively. This boundary temperature was nearly constant with independence of species(specific gravity), exposure time, and cooling. Above the boundary temperature, the effect of exposure time was increased with temperature and the reduction of bending MOE and MOR for Japanese Larch with relatively higher specific gravity was smaller than that of Hem-fir. The recovery of bending MOE and MOR after cooling was also more significant above the boundary temperature than below. The degree of cooling effect was larger for MOR than MOE. Consequently, bending properties of wood in elevated temperatures should be considered in terms of the boundary temperature, $200^{\circ}C$ for bending MOE, $150^{\circ}C$ for MOR, and these boundary temperatures must be considered an important factor. Furthermore, to evaluate the safety of structure, the recovery after cooling should be considered.
The effects of cooling rate on the microstructures, precipitation of Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu and impact toughness of high strength low alloy(HSLA) steel were studied using hardness tester, impact tester, DSC(differential scanning calorimetry), AES(auger electron spectroscopy) and TEM(transmission electron microscopy). Not only the Cu-precipitates but also the segregation of Cu, As, Sb, P, S, N, Sn along grain boundary were not observed at the specimens heat treated from 800.deg. C to 300.deg. C with the cooling time of 12-125 sec. The Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu are formed by introducing ageing after cooling and the effect of precipitates on hardening increase after cooling was the same in all cooling rate. The peak hardness was obtained at an ageing of 500.deg. C in all cooling conditions. The impact energy become higher as the cooling time increases. This fact can be explained to be due to the tempering effect applied on the cooling stage since the present alloy has a relatively high Ms temperature and the local high concentration of the retained austenite.
In this study, the first and second electronically controlled cooling systems for a bimodal tram were developed. The performance characteristics of the cooling systems were assessed experimentally with actual and identical conditions, and a simulation was run using ANSYS Fluent. The results of the experimental and FEA method were standardized. In order to confirm the reliability of the experimental method, the experiment was carried out by a testing institution. The low-volume flow-rate condition was found to be better, but the cooling system performed in a minimal condition. Therefore, it is important to find the optimum performance levels. The cooling system equipment was revised to determine the optimized design parameters, after which the cooling performance levels increased at the radiation area. Specifically, with a greater fan diameter. Through this study, the newly developed cooling system will be reevaluated after being mounted on an actual bimodal tram. This will lead to a completely domestically produced bi-modal tram cooling system.
Aggregate thermal properties and cooling methods are most important to evaluate the residual mechanical properties of concrete. In this study, we evaluate the residual mechanical properties of concrete according to the aggregate type and cooling method. We use the normal weight aggregate and light weight aggregate which have different thermal properties. After heating to the target temperature, we evaluate the mechanical properties according to the slow and fast cooling condition. As a result, normal weight aggregate concrete has higher effectiveness of cooling conditions than light weight aggregate concrete.
