  • Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare carcinoma which arises from upper respiratoy system, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract and skin. Sarcomatoid carcinoma of larynx is rare so pathogenesis, clinical behavior, treatment and prognosis of it is being debated. Treatment of sarcomatoid carcinoma of larynx is similar to squamous cell carcinoma of larynx. We report a case of recurred sarcomatoid carcinoma after surgical treatment and postoperative radiotherapy.

Effect of Hydrogen Plasma Treatment on the Photoconductivity of Free-standing Diamond Film (다이아몬드막의 광전도성에 관한 수소 플라즈마 표면 처리의 효과)

  • Thick diamond film having ~700${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness was deposited on polycrystalline molybdenum (Mo) substrate using high power (4kW) microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) system. We could achieve free-standing diamond film via detaching as-deposited diamond film from the substrate by rapid cooling them under vacuum. We investigated the variation of photoconductivity after exposing the film surface to either oxygen or hydrogen plasma. At as-grown state, the growth side (the as-grown surface of the film) showed noticeable photoconductivity. The oxygen plasma treatment of this side led to the insulator. After exposing the film surface to hydrogen plasma, on the other hand, we could observe the reappearing of photoconductivity at the growth side. Based on these results, we suggest that the hydrogen plasma treatment may enhance the photoconductivity of free-standing diamond film.

  • A lab-scale slurry reactor was developed for the treatment of contaminated sediments with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (naphthalene, phenanthrene). In this system, range from 85 to 95% of PAHs with 2~3 rings were degraded within 11 days. Higher naphthalene degradation(94.05%) over phenanthrene degradation(87.07%) was probably due its higher solubility. Both compounds were not detected in aqueous phase after 7days and only 26.8% of naphthalene and 49.1% of phenanthrene were biodegraded. Removal TPH(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) concentration in solid after 11 days of treatment was 46%.

  • The reliability of fluorine doped silicon oxide (SiOF) films for intermetal dielectrics in multilevel interconnections of ultra-large scale integrated circuits (ULSIs) is investigated. SiOF films were deposited by electron cyclotron resonance plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (ECRPECVD) using H-free source gases, i.e., SiF4 and O2. The effect of post plasma treatment on the moisture absorption and dielectric properties of SiOF films was carried out I terms of air exposure time, The reliability test of Cu/TiN/SiOF/Fi specimen was carried out in terms of temperature by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) in N2 ambient. After O2 plasma treatment,, no appreciable peak directly related to moisture absorption was detected. The capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of the O2 plasma treated SiOF film showed that the film remained to hold the sound dielectric properties even after boiling treatment. The Cu/TiN/SiOF/Si system was found to be reliable up to $600^{\circ}C$.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to report improvement in patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treated with herbal medication described in Shanghanlun. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with Lesser Yin disease based on the 315th provision of Shanghanlun, and Baektonggajeodamjup-tang was used for treatment. The result was evaluated using the Korean-Childhood Autism Rating Scale (K-CARS). Results: The K-CARS score decreased from 32 to 15 after 7 months of treatment. Conclusions: Lesser Yin disease 315th provision of Shanghanlun may be a provision describing ASD; in addition, Baektonggajeodamjup-tang may be an effective treatment for ASD.

  • Employing an after-treatment system has almost become a mandatory requirement for Diesel vehicles, which results from a reinforced exhaust regulations as the number of vehicles powered by a Diesel engine increases. The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system is considered as one of the most efficient method to reduce particulate matter (PM); however, the improvement of a regeneration performance at any engine operation point presents a considerable challenge by itself. Temperature, gas composition and flow rate of exhaust gas are important parameters in DPF evaluation processes, especially during a regeneration process. Engine dynamometer and segment tester are generally used in DPF evaluation so far. These test methods, however, could not completely evaluate the effect of various parameters on real DPF, such as oxygen concentration, amount of soot and exhaust gas temperatures. The evaluation of DPF systems using a dump combustor has been verified experimentally and this dump combustor system is likely to be appropriate for the DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) assessments test, too.

Oswestry Disability Analysis of Fuzzy Control Multi-cup Electric Cupping System

  • A multi-cup electric cupping system (MECS) was proposed, based on the ancient cupping method. MECS consisted of several cups that could be used simultaneously to treat 85 lumbago patients. Each cup was equipped with its own pump and pressure-monitoring system. The vacuum pressure of the cups was controlled using fuzzy logic. Through automated control of the vacuum pressure, long-term relief of muscle tightness was achieved. To develop a scientific foundation for this alternative treatment, we compared the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores from conventional basic cupping to the ODI scores for our proposed MECS. The ODI scores using MECS decreased from $11.71{\pm}1.61$ before treatment to $4.81{\pm}1.48$ and $1.87{\pm}1.61$ after three and five treatments, respectively. The improvement rate in the ODI scores using MECS after three treatments was higher than that achieved by basic cupping. These results, combined with the convenience offered by enhanced information technology and fuzzy logic capabilities, should increase the efficiency of this device, and facilitate the opportunity to further explore the potential of Oriental medical practices.

Changes of Soil Properties and Temperature by Green Manure under Rice-based Cropping System

  • The cultivation of green manure crop is considered as a good management practice by increasing soil organic matter and fertility levels. This experiment was conducted to improve the soil environment under rice-based cropping system at paddy soil (fine loamy, mixed, nonacid, mesic, family of Aeric Fluventic Haplaquepts) in National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), Korea in 2006 to 2007. The variation of soil temperature in green manure plots was lower than without green manure (control) during spring season (April to May). The temperature variation of no tillage plot (broadcast before rice harvest) was the lowest among treatments. After green manure cropping, the soil bulk density and porosity ratio were improved at the top soil. The production of green manure was the highest athairy vetch and barley mixture plot by partial tillage. However, mixture treatment had no improvement on soil organic matter. After rice cropping with green manure application, soil quality was improved such as soil physical properties except mixture treatment. Therefore, we suggest that soil quality should be improved by green manure cultivation under rice-based cropping system.

An Ecological Restoration of Treatment Wetland and Urban Upper Stream for Reusing Sewage Treatment Water - In the case of Sustainable Structured Wetland Biotop System at Upper Part of Jaemin Stream in Gongju-si, Korea - (하수처리수의 재이용을 위한 처리습지 및 도시 상류하천 생태환경복원 - 공주시 제민천 생태적수질정화비오톱을 중심으로 -)

  • The ecosystem of Jaemin stream, flowing into the center of Gongju-si, had been damaged by low water quality and lack of water quantity of the steam. However, after applying the SSB (Sustainable Structured wetland Biotop) system to the flood plain and the upstream of Jaemin stream, the efficiency of ecological water purification and ecological restoration are as follows. Through the constant maintenance and monitoring from year 2009 to year 2013 after restorative design and construction the average influent concentration of BOD5 was 4.2 mg/L, and the average effluent concentration was 1.8 mg/L, reaching ecological water purification rate of 57%. As for the T-N, the average influent concentration was 9.983 mg/L, and the average effluent concentration was 6.303 mg/L, showing the rate of 37%. For the T-P, the average influent concentration was 0.198 mg/L, and the average effluent concentration was 0.098 mg/L, being the rate of 51%. The vegetation of Jaemin stream monitored for 2 years after the restoration was composed of 51 species in 28 families which show high ratio of planted native species. As for the animals in the site, 5 species in 3 families of reptiles and amphibians, 34 species of 23 families of birds, and 3 species in 2 families of mammals were monitored, indicating that the bio-diversity of the site has improved, as well.
