  • Among the various slope stabilization methods, the green soil method based on the growth of plants is advantageous to the environment, but the durability and slope stability are insufficient when the green soil method is applied to a steep slope and rock slope sites. Therefore, in this study, green soil, which improved the adhesion performance and the vegetation environment, was developed using cementitious materials and ECG, and the durability and slope stability as well as the possibility of its use as a rock vegetation base material were assessed. From the results, the adhesive force and internal friction angle were higher than that of the existing green soil so that it could be used for in situ construction. The soil hardness value was 26 mm, which was slightly higher than that of the best growth condition of the plant, 18~23 mm, and the drying shrinkage strain was approximately 3%; hence, it is not expected to affect the durability of green soil. The results of a rainfall intensity simulation for evaluating the slope adhesion force showed that slope failure did not occur under all conditions. The damage decreased with increasing slope angle. Therefore, the green soils developed in this study have excellent durability and slope stability and can be used for rock slope sites.

  • Background: To study the effect of parecoxib, a novel cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitor, on the radiation response of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells and its underlying mechanisms. Materials and Methods: Both in vitro colony formation and apoptosis assays as well as in vivo mouse xenograft experiments were used to explore the radiosensitizing effects of parecoxib in human HCT116 and HT29 CRC cells. Results: Parecoxib sensitized CRC cells to radiation in vitro with a sensitivity enhancement ratio of 1.32 for HCT116 cells and 1.15 for HT29 cells at a surviving fraction of 0.37. This effect was partially attributable to enhanced apoptosis induction by parecoxib combined with radiation, as illustrated using an in vitro apoptosis assays. Parecoxib augmented the tumor response of HCT116 xenografts to radiation, achieving growth delay more than 20 days and an enhancement factor of 1.53. In accordance with the in vitro results, parecoxib combined with radiation resulted in less proliferation and more apoptosis in tumors than radiation alone. Radiation monotherapy decreased microvessel density (MVD) and microvessel intensity (MVI), but increased the hypoxia level in xenografts. Parecoxib did not affect MVD, but it increased MVI and attenuated hypoxia. Conclusions: Parecoxib can effectively enhance radiation sensitivity in CRC cells through direct effects on tumor cells and indirect effects on tumor vasculature.

  • According to the spiral of silence theory, perception of opinion climates influences willingness to express one's opinion. This study examines the relationship between opinion perception and opinion expression in different regions and issues. The results show that one's opinion and the intensity of opinion affect the expression of opinion about national and regional issues in Busan and Gwangju. People who perceive their opinions as majority are more willing to express theirs about national and regional issues in Gwangju, but not in Busan. Regression analyses show that perceived public opinion does not predict the expression of opinion in both cities. People who perceive their opinions more favorable about regional issue have lower intention to express their opinions than people who perceive their opinions same as others'. In summary, one's opinion and perception bias about controversial issues are important variables influencing expression of opinion, and the influence of perceived public opinion on opinion expression varies in different regions with different distribution of public opinion. This study found 'new hardcores' who perceive their own opinion as minor but more valuable and have the intention to speak out in places more difficult to express.

  • In order to analytically evaluate buffeting responses, the analysis of wind characteristics such as turbulence intensity, turbulence length, gust, roughness coefficient, etc must be a priority. Static aerodynamic force coefficients, flutter coefficients, structural damping ratios, aerodynamic damping ratios and natural frequencies affect the analytical responses. The bridge interested in this paper has being been used for 32 years. As the time passes, current terrain conditions around the bridge are different markedly from the conditions it was built 32 years ago. Also, wind environments were considerably varied by the climate change. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate the turbulence intensity, length, spectrum and roughness coefficient of the bridge site from full-scale measurements using the structural health monitoring system. The evaluation results indicate that wind characteristics of bridge site is analogous to that of open terrain although the bridge is located on the coastal area. To calculate buffeting responses, the analysis variables such as damping ratios, static aerodynamic force coefficients and natural frequency were evaluated from measured data. The analysis was performed with regard to 4 cases. The evaluated variables from measured data are applied to the first and second analysis cases. And the other analysis cases were performed based on Design Guidelines for Steel Cable Supported Bridges. The calculated responses of each analysis cases are compared with the buffeting response measured at less than 25m/s wind speed. It is verified that the responses by the numerical analysis applying the estimated variables based on full-scale measurements are well agreed with the measured actual buffeting responses under wind speed 25m/s. Also, the extreme wind speed corresponding to a recurrence interval 200 years is derived from Gumbel distribution. The derived wind speed for return period of 200 years is 45m/s. Therefore the buffeting responses at wind speed 45m/s is determined by the analysis applying the estimated variables.

  • This study aims to provide the basic data for coffee intake and health promotion by examining the conditions in which Korean adults consume the most coffee. The study used raw data from the second year of the 7th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2017), and 3,325 subjects who were 19 years of age or older and who were not missing the required values. This number used as the average amount of coffee drank per day in the past year is at least one cup. In order to identify factors that affect coffee intake, the model included general characteristics such as gender, age, household income, education level, occupation, health behaviors such as smoking, drinking, high intensity and moderate intensity exercises, walking, physical activity during work and leisure, sleep time, stress and depression. The results showed that coffee intake was lower among women than men, coffee intake was higher for people 40-64 years than people 20-39 years old, physical occupations rather than non-physical occupations, smokers rather than non-smokers, and for high stress rather than low stress in life. Subjects with these factors are considered to be at risk of excessive caffeine intake from coffee. The risk group of this study should be studied for the effect of excessive consumption of coffee on personal health.

  • Recently, a new concept for nitrogen removal that is simultaneous nitrification and denitrification(SND) has been studied for wastewater treatment process. The DMR(Daiho Microbic Revolution) process that used in this study consists of two suspended anoxic, anaerobic reactors and an aerobic biofilm reactor. The function of aerobic environment and the intensity of air flow rate(2.0, 1.0, 0.5, 0.4, 0.2 L/min) were studied in the biofilm reactor; also SND and nutrient removal efficiencies were investigated. Experimental results indicated that the change in air flow did not affect COD$_{Cr}$ removal significantly. Thus sustained at 93%. The lower the air flow rate, the higher T-N removal efficiency was attained(i.e.80% at 0.2 L/min). SND efficiency was 62, 65, 72 and 78% corresponding to each air flow rate. T-P removal was sensitive to aeration intensity and removal enhanced from 75% to 96% when the air flow rate was changed from 2.0 to 0.5 L/m; however second release occured in the clarifier at 0.2 L/min. Phosphorus content of activated sludge was 5.0%, as P releases and acetate uptake a ratio of 0.75 mg P/ mg HAc.

  • In the aging society, TKRA is steadily increased because of joint diseases. Artificial joint used in TKRA generates metal artifacts in the MRI. Metal artifact may affect diagnosis. In study, We are going to minimize the effect of metal artifact to improve the value of diagnosis by changing the sequence and the type of artificial joint(Co-Cr, Ni-Ti). 1.5T AVANTO, plastic containers and each of the artificial joint (Normal, Co-Cr, NiTi) were used. After the artificial joints fixed in a paper cup was inserted in a plastic container of cylindrical, Signal intensity was measured. To obtain strong and uniform signal intensity, the plastic container was filled with water. We changed Sequences(T1 TSE, T2 TSE, PD TSE) and obtained an Axial image. After excepting the maximum and minimum values, We calculated the average of SNR, CNR and PSNR. Consequently, The SNR, CNR value of PD TSE are measured higher than these of T1 TSE, T2 TSE and The PSNR of Co-Cr is higher than this of Ni-Ti. The SNR of Co-Cr is similar to the SNR of normal comparing this of Ni-Ti. As a result, Using sequence of PD Tse and Co-Cr alloy is considered to be useful.

  • BACKGROUND: Plastic mulches widely used in raised-bed culture mainly to conserve water, control weeds and raise soil temperature. The most widely used plastic mulch colour is black. Reflective red and far-red light can affect on growth and yield of various vegetable crops. Objectives of this study were to investigate the characteristics of reflective light of black and red plastic mulches, and to evaluate the reflective red and far-red light on the quality characteristics and yield of the Oriental melon (Cucumis. Melo L.) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.). METHODS AND RESULTS: Oriental melon and tomato were cultivated over the reflective red and black plastic mulches in plastic house. Reflected red and far-red light over the red plastic mulch were 2.6 times higher than those of black plastic mulch. Red to F-Red ratio of black plastic mulch, red plastic mulch and sunlight were 1.14, 0.93 and 1.16 respectively. Intensity of reflected red and far-red light over red plastic mulch were highest at surface height of 30 cm. The higher the height of the surface decrease the intensity of far-red light. Accordingly, Red to F-Red ratio were increased. Reflective red plastic mulch increased the weight of fruit and content of sugar in Oriental melon and tomato. CONCLUSION(s): Yield of Oriental melon over reflective red plastic mulch was higher than that of black plastic mulch. These results suggested that reflected red and far-red light over the red plastic mulch affected allocation of photosynthate in growing Oriental melon.

  • According to recent researches on climate change, the global warming is obvious to increase rainfall intensity. Damage caused by extreme hydrologic events due to global change is steadily getting bigger and bigger. Recently, frequently occurring heavy rainfalls surely affect the trend of rainfall observations. Probability precipitation estimation method used in designing and planning hydrological resources assumes that rainfall data is stationary. The stationary probability precipitation estimation method could be very weak to abnormal rainfalls occurred by climate change, because stationary probability precipitation estimation method cannot reflect increasing trend of rainfall intensity. This study analyzed temporal variation of trend in rainfall time series at 51 stations which are not significant for statistical trend tests. After modeling rainfall time series with maintaining observed statistical characteristics, this study also estimated whether rainfall data is significant for the statistical trend test in near future. It was found that 13 stations among sample stations will have trend within 10 years. The results indicate that non-stationary probability precipitation estimation method must be applied to sufficiently consider increase trend of rainfall.

  • Korean government is enforcing 'Greenhouse gas target management' in order to achieve Greenhouse gas reduction target. To attain Greenhouse gas reduction target, companies in Korea must establish their GHG inventory system and analysis their GHG emissions characteristics for deduction of mitigation measures. LMDI(Log Mean Divisia Index) decomposition analysis is widely used to understand characteristics of GHG emission and energy consumption. In this paper, the characteristics of GHG emission from the line of railroad in Korea is respectively analyzed in terms of conversion effect, intensity effect, production effect and distance effect. Data of railroad GHG emission from 2000 to 2007 are used. As a result, total effect of railroad's GHG emission is $96,813tCO_2eq$. Production effect ($39,865tCO_2eq$) and distance effect ($327,923tCO_2eq$) affect increase of railroad GHG emissions while Conversion effect ($-158,161tCO_2eq$) and intensity effect ($-112,814tCO_2eq$) influence decrease of the emissions.
