  • When traditional flap techniques are not feasible, we apply flap prefabrication, which is more complicated and sophisticated but supplies large and thin flaps. There are some disadvantages to the technique that require improvement, such as venous congestion after flap transfer, which requires months for neoangiogenesis and necessitates a vascular carrier. Here, the author presents a new technique, called as 'microdissected prefabricated flap,' to successfully produce a safe, large, and thin flap. This technique is based on the microdissection of the perforators to the greatest extent possible, spreading them out into the subdermal level and using them as a carrier. The details and the application of this technique are presented and reported.

  • This study attempts to detect a shot boundary in films(or dramas) based on the length of a sequence. As films or dramas use scene change effects a lot, the issues regarding the effects are more diverse than those used in surveillance cameras, sports videos, medical care and security. Visual techniques used in films are focused on the human sense of aesthetic therefore, it is difficult to solve the errors in shot boundary detection with the method employed in surveillance cameras. In order to define the errors arisen from the scene change effects between the images and resolve those issues, the mixed algorithm based upon color histogram, edge histogram, and optical flow was implemented. The shot boundary data from this study will be used when analysing the configuration of meaningful shots in sequences in the future.

  • Stone is one of the oldest and most popular materials used on the external wall because of its durability, abundance and aesthetic effect. However, there are two main problems in the existing pin hole construction method. One is uniformity of construction quality, and the other is a repair work of stone panels. Therefore, a new method is needed to overcome these problems. This paper presents a new stone curtain wall system using under cut anchor and secondary holes that was developed by authors. The improved quality and reduction of construction period can be obtained by this system.

  • Most of printing paper market today have been occupied by western paper and some machine-made Hanji used don't show the characteristic advantages for traditional hand-made Hanji. Although hand-made Hanji has an aesthetic and qualitative value, it has limited uses because of poor printability as printing paper. Unlike western paper, conventional Hanji cannot be used as Printing paper because it is impossible to make the clear formation of printed dot and to develop a high level of sizing and picking problem occurs during printing. Improvements of physical and optical properties such as roughness, smoothness, air permeability, contact angle, opacity, and paper gloss as well as sizing level were accomplished through internal and surface sizing and calendering, which made the paper better suited for printing and decreased problems during printing.

  • There is an increased interest in having beauty regardless of ages and sex with improvement of the national income level and increase in social activities. Competition within the beauty service industry is increasing rapidly because of global impact within Korea wave. Thus, active public relations and offering distinguished service in the beauty service industry are important. Also, uniforms play an important role in providing an image differentiated from other brands and presents professionalism to the customer. Therefore, we determined function and design of uniforms required in beauty service industry by researching wearing realities, satisfaction, preferred designs and functions of uniforms from hair shop staff. Functional and aesthetic uniforms play an important role to enhance the staffs' sense of belonging. In addition, it is good for the image of hair shop. Special design mirroring job characteristics with expression of differentiated personalities is needed. However, the research was conducted only in the hair shop in Seoul, Daejeon, and Gyeonggi-do. Further studies on much wider areas will be needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to residential satisfaction, and to examine the rural housing and village environment which enable to derive what should be considered in the future rural housing improvement. Data were collected by questionnaire survey in 11 rural villages - suburban rural area, plain rural area, intermediate rural area, mountainous rural area. The major findings are as follows: 1) The rural residents rather dissatisfied with'management/maintenance','economic value','facade'in housing level, The overall housing satisfaction level was just medium(neither satisfied nordissatisfied). 2) They also dissatisfied with'playground for children','education condition','medical facilities', 'market'in village level. The overa'll village satisfaction level was just above average(slightly satisfied). 3) Vrom the result of ANOVA test, there are no significant differences in residents evaluation for tiousing and village attributes among 4 rural areas. 4) Factor analysis identified six rural housing environmental factors:'inside utilities','housing size' 'aesthetic aspects','safety','privacy','outside utilities'. 5) For the rural village environments six important factors were derived :'public services','commercial convenience facilities','social interaction','environmental pollution','amenity','agricultural service facilities'.

  • In recent domestic automotive industry, applications of computer simulation to the manufacturing of stamping dies for inner and outer body panels which greatly affect durability and aesthetic quality of automobiles, have been increased. Enhancement of die quality, and reduction of total die manufacturing time and consequently manufacturing cost are the visible outcome. However, to successfully apply the result of simulation by a commercial package to the die manufacturing, development of an optimal die manufacturing process is required upon the completion of analysis of forte and shortcomings of available sheet metal forming softwares in the market. Based on the results of numerical analysis of front door outer panel forming, this paper evaluates the applicability of simulation results to the real die making for automotive body panels. Also, it attempts to select an optimal die manufacturing process including design, machining and tryout. Lastly, it discusses the expected effects by adopting the selected process in a real stamping die manufacturing facility.

  • Increasing the vertical dimesion affects not only functional problems but also the facial appearance. In particular, when restoring the reduced vertical dimension, it is important to evaluate facial appearance because the change affects the patient's aesthetics. Cephalometric radiographs can predict changes in the facial appearance through skeletal and vertical classifications using anatomical indicators, and the changes before and after treatment can be easily observed, which could serve as good data in evaluating treatment success. In this study, comparative evaluation was performed through cephalometric radiography, and the aesthetic and functional improvement was confirmed.

  • Posttraumatic facial deformities (PTFDs) are very difficult to correct, and if they do occur, their impact can be devastating. It may sometimes be impossible for patients to return to normal life. The aim of surgical treatment is to restore the deformed bone structure and soft tissue to create symmetry between the affected side and the opposite side. In the process of managing PTFD, correcting enophthalmos is one of the most challenging aspects for surgeons because of difficulties in overcoming the scar tissue and danger of injuring to the optic nerve. In this article, surgical options for reconstruction of the medial wall, floor, lateral wall, and roof of the orbit are described. To optimize aesthetic improvement, additional cosmetic procedures such as facial contouring surgery, blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty can be used. Plastic surgeons should join emergency trauma teams to implement an overall treatment plan containing rational strategies to avoid or minimize PTFD.

  • For treatment of partially edentulous patients, a treatment using implant is widely used. Treatment method using implant are implant fixed prostheses and removable partial dentures, and for patients with severe bone resorption, removable implant overdenture with the effects of aesthetic and reducing cost can be used as treatment options. Specially, prosthesis with milled-bar and attachment has the effect of being splinted between implant fixtures, higher retention and stability than conventional removable partial denture. And it has the effect of improvement of aesthetic through lip support by denture base. In this case, the patient with severe alveolar bone resorption and partial edentulous maxilla and mandible was treated by implant-assisted removable partial denture using Milled-bar and ADD-TOC attachment. The esthetic was improved by removing the clasp because of effects of additional retention by using the attachment, and reducing palatal coverage of implant-assisted removable partial denture. The clinical results were satisfactory on the aspect of aesthetic and masticatory function.
