A wind tunnel test of 29.7% scaled model of NASA Common Research Model with belly model support was performed in small low speed wind tunnel. The static aerodynamic forces and moments of CRM were measured with belly sting support configuration. Pitching moments of belly sting with various fairings were compared and small interference fairing shape was found. The belly sting model support interference and reducing effect of fairing shapes with CFD analysis.

This paper studies the applicability of an efficient numerical model based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict the dynamic responses of the wing structure of an airplane due to atmospheric turbulence in the time domain. The turbulence velocity is given in the form of a stationary Gaussian random process with the von Karman power spectral density. The wing structure is modeled by a classical beam considering bending and torsional deformations. An unsteady vortex-lattice method is applied to estimate the aerodynamic pressure distribution on the wing surface. Initially, the trim condition is obtained, then structural dynamic responses are computed. The numerical solution of the wing structure's responses to a random turbulence profile is used as a training data for the ANN. The current ANN is a three-layer network with the output fed back to the input layer through delays. The results from this study have validated the proposed low-cost ANN model for the predictions of dynamic responses of wing structures due to atmospheric turbulence. The accuracy of the predicted results by the ANN was discussed. The paper indicated that predictions for the bending moments are more accurate than those for the torsional moments of the wing structure.
In this paper, a new model-based Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) method for an agile supersonic flight vehicle is presented. A nonlinear model, controlled by a classical closed loop controller and proportional navigation guidance in interception scenario, describes the behavior of the vehicle. The proposed FDD method employs the Inertial Navigation System (INS) data and nonlinear dynamic model of the vehicle to inform fins damage to the controller before leading to an undesired performance or mission failure. Broken, burnt, unactuated or not opened control surfaces cause a drastic change in aerodynamic coefficients and consequently in the dynamic model. Therefore, in addition to the changes in the control forces and moments, system dynamics will change too, leading to the failure detection process being encountered with difficulty. To this purpose, an equivalent aerodynamic model is proposed to express the dynamics of the vehicle, and the health of each fin is monitored by the value of a parameter which is estimated using an adaptive robust filter. The proposed method detects and isolates fins damages in a few seconds with good accuracy.

The forces and moments at the aircraft c.g. have components due to aerodynamic effects and to engine thrust. For the flight stability and autopilot systems we present a attitude control method using an intelligent control algorithm Which is based on the control rules from experts knowledge concerning the motion equations and other experiences. Then a robust fuzzy controller is developed to control the flight attitude. The controller can deal with multiple inputs and outputs. We have made an aircraft model and the orientation sensor for experimental flights. The control rules based on the flight expert s experience and knowledge can be programmed by fuzzy rules, and determined control rules by experimental flight. We can be stable attitude control by fuzzy controller.
As part of a Department of Defense Grand Challenge Project, advanced high performance computing (HPC) time-accurate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques have been developed and applied to a new area of aerodynamic research on microjets for control of small and medium caliber projectiles. This paper describes a computational study undertaken to determine the aerodynamic effect of flow control in the afterbody regions of spin-stabilyzed projectiles at subsonic and low transonic speeds using an advanced scalable unstructured flow solver in various parallel computers such as the IBM SP4 and Linux Cluster. High efficiency is achieved for both steady and time-accurate unsteady flow field simulations using advanced scalable Navier-Stokes computational techniques. Results relating to the code's portability and its performance on the Linux clusters are also addressed. Numerical simulations with the unsteady microjets show the jets to substantially alter the flow field both near the jet and the base region of the projectile that in turn affects the forces and moments even at zero degree angle of attack. The results have shown the potential of HPC CFD simulations on parallel machines to provide to provide insight into the jet interaction flow fields leading to improve designs.

Quayside container cranes are important delivery machineries located in the most frontiers of container terminals, where strong wind attacks happen occasionally. Since the previous researches on quayside container cranes mainly focused on the mean wind load and static response characteristics, the fluctuating wind load and dynamic response characteristics require further investigations. In the present study, the aerodynamic wind loads on quayside container cranes were obtained from wind tunnel tests. The probabilistic and spectral models of the fluctuating aerodynamic loads were established. Then the joint probabilistic distributions of dynamic wind-induced responses were derived theoretically based on a series of Gaussian and independent assumption of resonant components. Finally, the results were validated by time domain analysis using wind tunnel data. It is concluded that the assumptions are acceptable. And the presented approach can estimate peak dynamic sliding force, overturning moments and leg uplifts of quayside container cranes effectively and efficiently.

Time series data of 6-component loads were computed for a horizontal axis wind turbine rotor in yawed operating conditions with both rotating and non-rotating coordinate systems fixed at a center of a rotor hub. In this study, a well-known 20 kW class of the NREL Phase VI rotor was used for a model wind turbine, and this paper focuses on the yaw moments and over-turning moments for the operating wind speed range between 6 to 25 m/s. Unsteady blade element momentum theorem was adopted to get the aerodynamic loads acting on the wind turbine rotor. Computed 6-component loads using the developed UBEM code were compared with those using the NREL FAST program. From the computed results, both yaw and over-turning moments would be basic inputs to determine not only the specification of yawing mechanism but also the design condition of foundation.

The pressure distributions on a semi-span wing 1/12 scale mode and sic component aerodynamic forces and moments on a complete 1/16 scale advanced trainer model were measured. To reduce wing-tip vortex strength, 3 wing-tip jet slot shaped(forward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction, straigt direction, backward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction) and 3 blowing coefficents (0.004, 0.009, 0.017) were considered. From experiment results, the case of straight direction and blowing coefficent of 0.017 was the best effective in the reduction of drag and in increase of lift-drag ratio and A rate of drag decrease and a rate of lift-drag ratio increase were of most effective on angle of attack 8 degree.

The present paper is the preliminary study of the development of a morphing aircraft wing and investigates experimently the aerodynamic characteristics of a base airfoil and a morphing airfoil. The wind tunnel tests are conducted for a base Clark-Y airfoil, an airfoil with a mechanical flap, and a morphing airfoil. Lifts, drags, and pitching moments are measured by using a three-axis load cell and they are calibrated by considering solid blockage and wake blockage. The wind tunnel tests are conducted for various air speeds, Reynolds' numbers, and angles of attack. The experimental results show that the aerodynamic characteristics of the morphing airfoil in lift-drag and lift-pitching moment are better than those of the airfoil with a mechanical flap.

In this study the aerodynamic characteristics of a canard-controlled missile with freely spinning tailfins were investigated by using a semi-empirical method and a CFD code. The mean aerodynamic coefficients for the rolling and roll damping moments were first calculated and then used to predict the roll-rate of freely spinning tailfins. The calculation of roll-rate in the CFD code was carried out by combining a Chimera overset grid system and 6-DOF analysis module. The predicted roll-rate was in good agreement with the experimental data for the roll and yaw canard control inputs. It was also shown that the results are in good agreement with the prediction by a CFD code. This indicates that the semi-empirical method can be used to predict the roll-rate of a canard-controlled missile with freely spinning tailfins.
