Groove manufacturing for Fluid and Aero Dynamic Bearings using Chemical Etching (화학적 에칭을 이용한 유체 및 공기 동압 베어링용 그르브 가공)

  • This paper presents a chemical etching system for groove manufacturing for the fluid and aero dynamic bearings. To manufacture the grooves to thrust and journal surface of the fluid and aero dynamic bearing, it is very important for grooves' depth to be smaller tolerance. It is very difficult for the internal surface of journal bearing to make the grooves precise. If the precision of the groove is not exact, we can not get the desirable performance for the target of the dynamic bearing. To make the groove of bearing precise, we propose the method of chemical etching system. It has known that the method of chemical etching can not make the groove on the internal surface of journal bearing excepts for on the surface of thrust bearing. However, this paper has shown the solution to make the grooves on it. We obtain the condition and the parameters of the system such as time, chemical material composition and so on. In this paper, we get the experimental results to verify the precise groove manufacturing for the fluid and aero dynamic bearing.

  • This paper is presented for the measurement of the bearing stiffness for the spindle motors. BLDC Spindle Motors for the Hard Disk Drive are used by several kinds of the bearings, such as ball bearing, fluid dynamic bearing, and aero dynamic bearing. The spindle motors are attached the platters to read and write the data. Because the platter rotates at high end speed with the load and can be shocked from a suddenly moving, the bearing needs the rated stiffness with the pressure. By the way, it has not been realized to measure the real stiffness for each bearing types. In this paper, we proposed the method of measuring the stiffness for the bearings by using the magnet force. Experimental results show the performance to measure the bearing stiffness of the BLDC spindle motors for an HDD.

  • In this paper, arbitrary pulse power for electro chemical etching, which manufactures the groove of fluid dynamic bearing and aero dynamic bearing, is presented. For high precision manufacture, we generally use high precision CNC machine. However, this case has the disadvantage that cost is very expensive and bur due to bites of tool can be generated. So most of companies are interested in the method of electro chemical etching. But for more precision results, it is important to decision the parameters of electrical conditions, such as currents and frequency. We designed and made the arbitrary pulse power system easy to input the parameters for optimal conditions. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the system strategy proposed for the high precision manufacture.
