A Study on the Arrangement Design of Shield-TBM Cutter Bit (Shield-TBM 커터비트배치 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This study is a research about cutter bits arrangement of shield-TBM and carried out a scale model test and numerical analysis according to a space of cutter bits. A cutter head pressures and an advance time are measured to be followed by the space of cutter bits with an advance speed through the scale model test. We conducted the numerical analysis to verify the result of the scale model test, and to compare with the scale model test. There are three cases of space : unification 1.0D and 1.5D. In case TBM is excavated and space is 1.0D, the advance speed is much faster than the other cases, and pressure of face of ground deformation and cutter head is maintained stably. If additional researches about bits arrangement of cutter head of sand ground based on the result of this research are performed, substantial results may be obtained.

A Simple Multi-rate Parallel Interference Canceller for the IMT-2000 3GPP System (IMT-2000 3GPP 시스템을 위한 간단한 다중 전송률 병렬형 간섭제거기)

  • In this paper, we propose an effective but simple multi-rate parallel interference canceller(PIC) for the international mobile telecommunications-2000(IMT-2000) 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) system. For effective multi-rate processing, we define the basic block as one symbol period of the dedicated physical control channel(DPCCH) having the lowest data rate and common to all users. Then, decision and interference cancellation are performed at every basic block. For an asynchronous channel, we propose an advance removal scheme that removes in advance multiple access interference(MAI) due to the next blockof other users with shorter delay. Introducing a pipeline structure at a sample base, we can implement efficiently the PIC using the advance removal scheme with a minimum hardware and no extra computations. Through computer simulations, we analyze the bit error rate(BER) performance of the proposed PIC with respect to signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the number of users.

Knowledge and Attitudes toward Advance Directives among Middle-Aged Women

  • Purpose: This study investigated knowledge of and attitudes toward advance directives (ADs) among middle-aged women in South Korea, their willingness to write ADs in the future, and the factors related to knowledge of and attitudes toward ADs. Methods: Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire completed by 154 middle-aged women aged 50 to 64 from February to March 2020. The questionnaire asked about participants' knowledge of and attitude toward ADs, willingness to write ADs in the future, experiences with life-sustaining treatment within their families, experience making decisions about life-sustaining treatment, and demographic characteristics. Results: Scores for both knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were relatively high. About 60% of participants gave wrong answers when asked if attorneys were required for writing ADs. A higher knowledge score was significantly associated with a higher attitude score (r=0.227, P<0.01). The women were more likely to be willing to write ADs in the future when they reported a middle income level rather than a lower income level (odds ratio [OR]=5.952, P<0.01), considered themselves unhealthy (OR=5.873, P<0.01), and graduated college or higher (OR=4.096, P<0.05). Furthermore, women who thought that ADs would have an impact on treatment (OR=1.869, P<0.05) and on their families (OR=1.447, P<0.05) were more likely to be willing to write an AD. Conclusion: This study shows that wrong information about ADs persists among middle-aged women, and significant factors associated with knowledge of and attitude toward ADs were identified. Targeted education programs about ADs need to be developed for middle-aged women.

Numerical Investigation on Interference Effects of Tandem Rotor in Forward Flight (전진 비행하는 탠덤로터의 간섭효과에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the interference effects due to tandem rotor's overlap in the forward flight. To resolve the instabilities caused by close proximity of the wake to the blade surface, the field velocity approach is implemented to the existing unsteady panel code coupled with a time-marching free wake model. The modified code is then used to investigate the effects of the selected parameters on the forward flight performance of the tandem rotor. The calculated results for rotor separation effect indicate that stagger(d/D) appears to have little effects on the forward flight performance at high advance ratio and the square of gap(H/D) is inversely proportional to overlap induced power factor. In addition, it is also shown that the overlap induced power factor increases to a certain extent and decrease back as the advance ratio increases.

Variation of the Turning Circle by the Rudder Angle and the Ship's Speed-Mainly on the Training Ship KAYA- (타각과 선속에 따른 선회권의 변화-실습선 가야호-)

  • The size of the ship's turning circle is influenced by various factors, such as block coefficient, underwater side shape, rudder area ratio, draft, trim and Froude's number. Most of them are already fixed on departure from a port. However, the ship's speed and the rudder angle are controllable factors which operations are able to change optionally during sailing. The DGPS measured the turning circles according to the ship's speed and the rudder angle. The maximum advances by slow and full ahead were 302m and 311m, and the maximum transfers were 460m and 452m, respectively. There occurs almost no difference in size of the turning circle by variation of the ship's speeds. When the rudder angles were changed to $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, the maximum advances were 447m, 271m and 202m, and then also the maximum transfers 657m, 426m and 285m, respectively. The diameter of the tuning circle was decreased exponentially when the rudder angle was increased. The maneuverability was better when the direction of turning and propulsion of propeller are in the opposite direction rather than in the same one togetherm. The distance of the maximum transfer was always bigger than that of the maximum advance.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the performance of gasoline engine. Combustion-characteristics orignated from supplying cylinder with fuel-air mixture which was formed by the rise of oxygen-concentration in air with oxygen-enriching membrane have been investigated. The results showed that the poor-limit of oxygen-concentration was increased by shortening combustion-duration because the rise of oxygen-concentration in fuel-air mixture resulted in the promotion of combustion-velocity. Also, the generation of large output of power was expected from combustion in proportion as the amount of oxygen was increased.

  • The application of A.C. motor to servo system is rapidly increased according to the recent advance of power electronics and digital control techniques. The induction motor which has a simple structure and needs less maintenance is used in the industrial field for the variable speed and position control recently. In this paper, the current characteristic of the full-bridge resonant inverter is studied by comparing with the computer simulation and the laboratory experiment when the ratio of forced frequency to the natural frequency and the ratio of conduction time to the period at the given frequency is changed. And then, the full-bridge resonant inverter is applied to the speed control of single phase induction motor.

A study on performance improvement of natural gas fueled engine (천연가스 기관의 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Generally speaking, natural gas possesses several characteristics that make it desirable as an engine fuel : for example (1) lower production cost, (2) abundant commodity and (3) cleaner energy source than gasoline. Due to the physical characteristics of natural gas, the volumetric efficiency and flame speed of a natural gas engine are lower than those of a gasoline engine, which results in a power loss of 10-20% when compared to a convensional gasoline engine. This paper describes the results of a research to improve the performance of a natural gas engine through the modification and controls of air/fuel ratio, spark timing advance and supercharging effect by forced air supply method.

  • For the fabrication of nano patterned products manufacturing a nano patterned mold is needed in advance. The nano patterned stamper was fabricated by electroforming the AAO master with nickel. The surface of nickel-plated stamper had nano-patterned holes with the diameter of 73 nm and the depth of 83 nm. Hot embossing was used for forming P3HT sheet and the process factors of hot embossing were closer as pressure, temperature and time. In the present paper hot embossing experiments were performed to find the main process conditions to affect the replication ratio of nano patterns on surface of P3HT sheet. As a result, main contributing factors for the replication ratio of hot embossed pattern could be sequentially enumerated as pressure, temperature and time.

Experimental Study on Comparison of Flame Propagation Velocity for the Performance Improvement of Natural Gas Engine

Due to the physics characteristics of natural gas, the volumetric efficiency and flame speed of a natural gas engine are lower than those of a gasoline engine, which results in a power loss of $10-20{\%}$ when compared to a normal gasoline engine. This paper describes the results of a research to improve the performance of a natural gas engine through the modification and controls of compression ratio, air/fuel ratio, spark advance and supercharging and method of measuring flame propagation velocity. It emphasizes how to improve the power characteristics of a natural gas engine. Combustion characteristics are also studied using an ion probe. The ion probe is applied to measure flame speed of gasoline and methane fuels to confirm the performance improvement of natural gas engine combustion characteristics.
