  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a Web-based learning program on cardiopulmonary emergency care for clinical nurses and to evaluate learners' responses. Methods: Based on the assessment of learning needs of clinical nurses, a total of three self-directed learning modules were developed according to the procedure of the ADDIE (assessment, design, development, implementation, & evaluation) model. Results: Each learning module included the emergency treatments and drugs used in the real patients' situations with cardiopulmonary crisis, which had been adopted from the emergency department of a C University hospital located in G-city. Real video clips for endotracheal intubation and ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) were developed with the help of the staff of the department of emergency medicine using a human simulator, $SimMan^{(R)}$. The program published on the Web was evaluated by 20 clinical nurses who are working in the emergency department and wards of a C-University hospital. About 80% of the respondents were satisfied with the program contents, design, and learning strategy. Conclusions: Web-based learning programs on cardiopulmonary emergency care are needed for clinical nurses as educational material for staff education to increase their knowledge for making immediate clinical decisions and in giving skilled care in emergency situations.

  • Changes in the first language (L1) sound system as a result of acquiring a second language (L2) (i.e., phonetic drift) have received considerable attention from a variety of speakers, settings, and environments. Less attention has been given to phonetic drift in adult speakers' L2 learning as their length of residence in America (LOR) increases. This study examines the effects of LOR on voice onset time (VOT) in L1 Korean stops. Three different groups of Korean adult learners of L2 English were compared to assess how malleable their L1 representations are in terms of LOR and whether there is any relationship between L1 change and L2 acquisition. The results showed that the effect of LOR was linguistically unimportant in the production of Korean stops. However, VOT merger as evidence of sound change in Korean stops were robust in the speech production of most of the female speakers across the groups. The results suggest that L2 English may not be the primary cause of L1 sound change. For generalizability, further study is necessary to see whether other acoustic cues show a similar pattern.

  • The study of the meaning of learning began with the question of what causes people to start learning. Learning is humanization and personification. Learning is a basic human instinct, and the essence of learning is to understand other people and my life, learn community, and learn social capital. Learning gives humans nomadic judgment and provides an opportunity for a productive life for mankind, who must live in constant harmony with the social environment. Learning provides opportunities for self-management, communication with various generations, and self-actualization.

  • The purpose of this study is to develope education for sustainable development of understanding programme. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, this programme is intended to enhance an university student's basic understanding, core skills and viewpoint of sustainable development. Secondly, the programme contains 10 modules, organised in four thematic sections. Each module is made up of two or three activities that are supposed to encourage adult learners in their mature understanding of sustainable development. Thirdly, there are three key teaching-learning strategies such as a case study, story telling and project study. These teaching-learning methods play a key role in the learning process. In conclusion, it is expected to indicate the goal and the value of the sustainable development clearly, and to provide the related information and knowledge constantly and systematically in the learning for sustainable development. Thus, it would be possible to enhance learner's awareness and attitudes towards sustainable development.

  • This paper outlines an intervention protocol used to educate nurses in a project that implemented and evaluated a delirium educational program in one general hospital. It outlines an evaluation of the content of the education and processes used to deliver the intervention through an analysis of reflective notes. The educational protocol was designed for adult learners and grounded in the six assumptions of Knowles' learning theory. Results suggest the educational program positively impacted on participating nurses' knowledge, attitudes and family caregiver involvement in delirium care of hospitalized older adults with and without dementia. This paper also acknowledges the challenges involved in sustaining a practice change through an educational intervention.

  • The present study examined the effect of two variables of task complexity, reasoning demand and time pressure, each from the resourcedirecting and resource-dispersing dimension in Robinson's (2001) framework of task classification. Reasoning demand was operationalized as the two types of texts to read and summarize, expository and argumentative. Time pressure was operationalized as the two modes of performance, oral and written. Six university students summarized the two types of text orally and twenty four students from the same school summarized them in the written form. Results from t test and ANCOVA showed that in the oral mode, reasoning demand tends to heighten the complexity of the language used in the summary in competition with accuracy but such an effect disappeared in the written mode. It was interpreted that the degree of time pressure is not the only difference between the oral and written modes but that the two modes may be fundamentally different cognitive tasks, and that Robinson's (2001) and Skehan's (1998) models were differentially supported by the oral mode of tasks but not by the written mode of the tasks.

  • This research has three purposes: The first purpose is to verify whether SGRs(Student-Generated Rubrics) are effective for learner achievement in higher education or not. The second one is to analyze the agreements between an instructor's evaluations and peer group assessments with SGRs in real classroom situation. The final purpose is to propose the possibility of students' more objective self-evaluation with the use of SGRs. It appears that rubrics are effective tools to improve learner achievement in adult education and to promote the agreement between the instructor's and peer's evaluations, even though learners do not develop SGRs. In addition, this research has demonstrated that most students are not very accurate self-assessors, and they often overestimate themselves. This study can be helpful for novice instructors, especially for those who try to assess their students more fairly, to develop the SGRs as an evaluation tool appropriate for their own situation, and to give more reliable feedback to students.

  • The capability of the digital communication would need to be strengthened for leveraging collaborative knowledge building and problem solving skills of the middle aged people. It was developed and implemented a smart learning model by utilizing the formative intervention based on the logic of change laboratory to target learners of 'K organization', As a results, smart learning model was composited several activities and supporting systems such as learning instructions of Smart Pad, communication games and SNS, using self-diagnosis and making posters and role-playing video by the internet applications. This research is significant that it finds efficient method to fit design of smart learning and the needs of target learners by using them as testbed which is mixed with different background and digital communication experiences.
