Establishment of adsorption measurement technique in nano-scale range and its application to standardization of porous material (나노영역에서의 흡착측정기술 확립 및 기공표준화에의 응용)

  • 물리흡착은 기체와 표면간의 상호작용이 반데르발스 힘에 의한 흡착현상으로 평형상태에서 물리적인 조건 변화만으로 흡착과 탈착이 가능하다. 이러한 흡착측정 데이터는 흡착 시스템에 대한 다양한 정보를 제공해주게 된다. 기체와 표면간의 상호작용 포텐셜, 흡착된 물질의 물리적 상태, 흡착막의 두께, 흡착구조, 흡착량 등이 결정될 수 있다. 이러한 정보는 흡착 및 탈착 등온곡선의 분석을 통하여 사용된 흡착제의 비표면적 및 기공의 기하학적 구조에 대한 것도 유추할 수 있게 한다. 본 실험실에서는 흡착량을 직접 측정하는 체적식 흡착측정 방법, 흡착량을 간접적으로 측정하는 광 및 관련 흡착시스템 및 수정진동자를 이용한 박막에서의 흡착측정 방법들을 소개하며 기공표준화에 적용하고자 한다.

Synthesis of Mesoporous TS-1 for Catalytic Oxidative Desulfurization

  • Mesoporous TS-1 catalysts were prepared via a nanocasting route using two different carbon template sources of CMK-3 and commercial carbon black. Products were characterized by XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, and $N_2$ adsorption- desorption measurement. The catalytic performances of the samples for allylchloride epoxidation and oxidative desulfurization of the representative refractory sulfur compounds, dibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene, were compared against those of conventional TS-1. Whilst the allychloride epoxidation activity for the mesoporus TS-1 samples were similar, mesoporous TS-1 exhibited significantly higher catalytic activities than conventional TS-1 in oxidative desulfurization.

  • The sorption of radioactive cobalt and ruthenium on alumina, silica gel, zeolite 3A, kaolin and Na-bentonite has been studied as a function of pH. nuclide concentration and ionic strength. Retardation factor for cobalt and ruthenium on soil minerals was determined through porosity measurement. Hydrolysed species, cobalt and ruthenium interact with solid surfaces by physical adsorption processes. Freundlich sorption isotherms for cobalt and ruthenium are effectively linear. The sorption decreases with increasing ionic strength for cobalt and ruthenium. The effect of increasing porosity on the retardation factor countered the effect of a significant increase in the distribution coefficient.

  • The maleate copolyrner($C_{18}MA-VE_2$) is used as sensitive materials and deposited on the slide-glass substrates at room temperature using Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The results of current-time(1-t) measurements are performed to investigate the gas-detection characteristics of the sensitive LB films in the presence of organic gases just as chloroform, acetone, ethanol, methanol using the apparatus for the gas-detection measurement. Several interesting responses are observed at room temperature, such as reversible response, sensitivity and response time. Response time and sensitivities are evaluated 160~220[sec], minimum 6[times], maximum 70[times] for each organic gas by adsorption and penetration of the organic gases in the relation concentration of 100[%], respectively.

  • The purpose of this paper is to use lignin. Lignin was obtained by digestion of Korean pine wood, purified, and identified. After carbonizing lignin by con $c-H_2SO_4$, the resulting carbon was converted into active carbon by activating it in the electric kiln. The adsorptivity of this active carbon was obtained by measurement with a spectro-photometer. It has been found as a result that adsorption power is 89%.

  • Electronic structure of Calix adsorbed on epitaxial graphene (EG) was investigated using high resolution photoemission spectroscopy (HRPES). Increasing the deposition of calix molecule, we found that EG becomes n-type doping using secondary edge measurement (work function change). As we observe bonding nature of O 1s peak, we found that single O 1s peak can be clearly distinguished in the spectra indicating equivalent adsorption state. Finally, we were able to control the band gap of EG using valence band spectra as we change the amount of calix molecule. In this study, we will propose the possibility of band gap modulation of EG using calix molecule.

The Effect of Oxygen Adsorption on the Depth of Space Charge Region on ZnO $(10{\bar{1}}0)$

  • The apparent depth of space charge region on the ZnO $(10{\bar{1}}0)$ surface in chemisorption of oxygen has been estimated from the capacitance of two contacting faces. When the sample (donor concentration: $2.4{\times}10^{22}\;m^{-3}$) was evacuated at 773 K for 1 hr the depth reached to 40-100 ${\AA}$ depending on sample assembly. Admission of oxygen to the sample resulted in an increase of the depth to 3600 ${\AA}$ where the increment was greater at higher oxygen pressure between 6.6-1600 $N/m^2$. Admission of CO to the sample previously exposed to oxygen yields a decrease in the depth. The results of the measurement support that oxygen is adsorbed as an acceptor on ZnO $(10{\bar{1}}0)$.

Some Model Solute Affinity for a Tactic p-HEMA Membranes by K$_D$ Measurement

  • Two series of membranes have been prepared by postcrosslinking highly syndiotactic and isotactic poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), P(HEMA). The crosslinker used was hexamethylene diisocyante (HMDIC). The distribution coefficients (K$_{D2}$) of the model solutes such as urea (and thiourea), their derivatives, homologous alcohol series and amide sreies in water-swollen tactic P(HEMA) membranes at $25^{\circ}C$ were mesaured. In addition, the concentration effects of acetamide and butyramid were also measured. On the basis of hydrophobic interaction and the structural factors of tactic P(HEMA) membranes, the hydrophobic adsorption of the solutes in the polymer matrix were discussed. The results showed that the more hydrphobic the solute is, the higher the $K_{D2}$ value is. And the polymer conformation also affects the distribution of solvents.

Design and Fabrication of MOSFET Type Hydrogen Gas Sensor Using MEMS Process (MEMS 공정기술을 적용한 MOSFET형 수소센서의 설계, 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, MOSFET type micro hydrogen gas sensors with platinum catalytic metal gates were designed, fabricated, and their electrical characteristics were analyzed. The devised MOSFET Hydrogen Sensors, called MHS-1 and -2, were designed with a platinum gate for hydrogen gas adsorption, and an additional sensing part for higher gas sensitivity and with a micro heater for operation temperature control. In the electrical characterization of the fabricated Pt-gate MOSFET (MHS-1), the saturated drain current was 3.07 mA at 3.0 V of gate voltage, which value in calculation was most similar to measurement data. The amount of threshold voltage shift and saturated drain current increase to variation of hydrogen gas concentration were calculated and the hydrogen gas sensing properties were anticipated and analyzed.

Measurement of Volatile Organic Sulfur Compounds in Ambient Air by Canister and Tedlar-bag Sampling Method (캐니스터와 Tedlar-bag 시료채집법을 이용한 대기 중의 휘발성유기황화합물의 측정)

  • The measurement of VOSCs(volatile organic sulfur compounds) in the air is nowadays a very important environmental research field. It is, however, very difficult because the concentration of the VOSC in ambient air is usually very low and the high reactivity makes it difficult to keep in container without loss of recovery. In this study, sampling method with cryogenic preconcentration is evaluated for analysis of atmospheric VOSC such as $CH_3SH,\;CH_3CH_2SH,\;CH_3SCH_3,\;CS_2,\;CH_3SSCH_3,\;CH_3SCH_2SCHA_3,\;and\;C_2H_5SSC_2H_5$ analyzed by GC-MS or GC-FID. Repeatabilities of measurement accompanied with preconcentration for 3-successive runs were in the range of 0.2~1.0% as a relative standard deviation. Stabilities up to 13 days were measured in 6 L canister and 10 L tedlar bag filled with VOSCs in ppb level. Higher stability was observed in tedlar bag as compared to canister with glass coated inner walls, and thiol compounds show dramatic losses in canister within 2~3 days. It is found that recovery over 70% was obtained in a week for all tested VOSCs when the compounds from ambient air matrix were stored in tedlar bag. It is also found that the stabilities of VOSCs are depending on humidity and coexisting compounds in matrix gas due to sample adsorption onto inner surface and reactivity. The results indicate the possibility and limitations of VOSC analysis in ambient air using container sampling method with cryogenic preconcentration.
