The purpose of this study was to develop disposable diapers for the elderly in need by experimenting with wearing disposable diapers and analyzing the properties of materials of these diapers. The diapers were of two different types: one was a panty type for the elderly who were bed ridden, and the other was a pad type for the elderly who had incontinence. The subjects for the wearing test of the panty type were forty who were bed ridden, and there were forty subjects for the wearing test of the pad type who had incontinence. The disposable diapers for these experiments were chosen from those already found in the market place. Four panty types and three pad types were selected. From these experiments for the disposable diapers, the first prototypes were developed, and the second prototypes were proposed by experimenting with the first prototypes. The first panty prototype was designed to improve absorbing power, and we added waist rubber bands to prevent evacuation from back leaking and a frontal tape to prevent waistline film from tearing. The first pad prototype was designed to improve absorbing power also, and we added side rubber bands to prevent the side leaking and an adhesive tape on the fore part of the bottom to prevent the diapers from moving, and made the outline of the back area curved and thin to help hide the diaper from detection thus making the wearer feel better. From these test cases and analyzing the properties of materials with the first prototypes, we gained some success, but several points on further improvements were proposed to refine the final prototypes. The second panty prototype we proposed was to make 1he length longer, especially in the crotch area to prevent excess leaking and to fit the body more snugly. Also, the second pad prototype was proposed to reduce the total thickness of the diaper, and to improve the feeling and appearance.

This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of 5% sodium fluoride-polyvinyl alcohol (NaF-PVA) tape influencing enamel remineralization by analysing enamel surface microhardness (SMH) and variation of ${\Delta}F$ of QLF. After enamel demineralizing of specimen, these 60 specimens with average KHN of microhardness ranging from 50 to 100 and with ${\Delta}F$ of QLF ranging from -15 to -25 were divided into four groups : group 1 (control group), group 2 (NaF-PVA), group 3 (fluoride varnish, FluoroDose$^{(R)}$ varnish), group 4 (Casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate, Tooth mousse plus$^{TM}$). These specimens were treated with materials and then immersed in artificial saliva. We measured remineralization rate each using surface microhardness (SMH) and Quantitative light-induced fluorescence digital (QLF-D). As a result, NaF-PVA tape is better than group 1, 4 and have comparable remineralization effect with group 3 (p < 0.05).
The adhesive-tape of a liquid leak film sensor including the alarm system is developed. The sensing film is composed of three layers such as base film layer, conductive line layer, and protection film layer. The thickness of film is 300~500 um, the width is 3.55 cm, and the unit length is 200 m. On the conductive line layer, three conducting lines and one resistive line are formulated by the electronic printing method with a conducting ink of silver-nano size. When a liquid leaks for the electricity to be conducted between the conductive line and the resistive line, the position of leakage is monitored by measuring the voltage varied according to the change of resistance between two lines. The error range of sensing position of 200 m film sensor is ${\pm}1m$.

A unimorph piezoelectric cantilever generator with an interdigitated electrode (IDE) was developed for vibration energy harvester applications driven in the longitudinal mode. Hard lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramic with a high $Q_m$ of 1,280 was used as the piezoelectric active material. Ten PZT sheets produced by tape casting were laminated and co-fired with an Ag/Pd IDE at $1,050^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The approximately $280{\mu}m$-thick co-fired PZT laminate with the IDE was attached to a stainless steel substrate with an adhesive epoxy for the fabrication of an IDE unimorph cantilever. Its energy harvesting characteristics were evaluated: an output power of $1.1{\mu}W$ at 120 Hz across the resistive load of $700k{\Omega}$ was obtained, corresponding to a normalized power factor of $4.1{\mu}W/(G^2{\cdot}cm^3)$.

The purpose of this study is to investigate fluoride release in the oral cavity from polymer adhesive tape which is NaF coated PVA. 45 healthy adults were divided into 3 groups by the type of topical fluoride applied: 60seconds taste$^{(R)}$ APF gel (group 1), FluoroDose$^{(R)}$ varnish (group 2) and NaF-PVA (group 3). Topical fluoride was applied to the facial surface of maxillary 12 teeth and unstimulated whole saliva was collected to measure fluoride release after 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours. Fluoride-sensitive electrode was used for measuring the fluoride concentration in the saliva samples. All three groups showed significantly higher value for fluoride concentration than the baseline after 1 and 3 hours (p < 0.05). After 6 hours, group 3 showed significantly higher fluoride concentration than the baseline (p < 0.05) and also showed significantly higher value for fluoride concentration than group 1 and group 2. Between group 1 and group 2, however, there was no significant difference statistically with respect to fluoride concentration value (p > 0.05).
Taping is used to restrict undesired, potentially harmful motion and allow desired motion. Taping refers to the application of some type of adhesive backed tape, that adheres to the skin of a particular joint or to a limb. Prevention and rehabilitation is two main indications for the use of taping techniques. The purpose of this study was to compare a tennis injury between taping and non-taping group. The objects of this study were 64 tennis club members-38 non-taping group, 26 taping group. The analysis methods were both frequency and paired T-test. The results are followings: 1. There was effective increase of taping group-elbow, wrist, knee, ankle-that showed significant increase on statistical analysis. (P<.05). 2. There was effective a relation of seasons and injured in taping group-elbow, wrist, ankle-(P<.05) 3. But non-significant statistically about injured seasons. Prophylactic taping has become one of the most common methods employed to prevent sports injuries, despite questions regarding its efficacy. The success of taping does not only depend upon the materials or methods used, but also upon the phychologic sedative effect of the athlete to be taped.

A novel technique has been developed to observe the three-dimensional (3-D) distribution of chemical components in biological materials using both automatic sectioning microtome and infrared microscope. The 3-D image was reconstructed based on the relationship between the content and the absorbancy of specified wavelength for chemical components. By using the automatic sectioning microtome, the kernel of rice sample fixed in paraffin was sequentially sliced with the thickness of $5\;\mutextrm{m}$ after pasting the sliced sectional specimens on an adhesive tape. The chemical components of the specimens, which are placed on the X-Y controlling stage with positioning accuracy of ${\pm}10\;\mutextrm{m}$, were analyzed by the infrared microscope. The 3-D images demonstrated that the zonal protein about $200\mutextrm{m}$ in width was observed mainly at the outer parts of a rice particle, and carbohydrates entirely. These images can be observed by choosing arbitrary observation angle. The result indicated that the developed technique could be applied 3-D information to investigate intrinsic chemical components but also residual pesticides as well as bacteria contamination for agricultural produce.

When applying superconducting wire to power machines, an investigation needs to be carried out on the characteristics of wire phase changes in connection with the insulating layer. This study examined trends in the increase of the wire's resistance and the characteristics of its recovery from quenching by a current-applied cycle at temperatures of 90 K, 180 K, and 250 K. The procedure was conducted based on the thickness and presence (or absence) of the insulating wire layers. To achieve this, YBCO thin-film wires with the same critical temperatures were prepared with copper and stainless steel stabilizing layers. At levels (-one, three, and five-), with superior performance, polyimide pressure-sensitive adhesive tape was attached to the wires at a very low temperature. The eight prepared test samples were wound around the linear frames. The wire's voltage and current created from the phase change characteristics were measured at the wire's prescribed temperature, using the four-point probe method. The wire's resistance and recovery characteristics were examined for each cycle at temperatures of 90 K, 180 K, and 250 K.
A simple and quick method based on the transient diffusion theory for predicting the steady state rate of penetration of a drug after transdermal drug administration was proposed. The amount of drug entering the stratum corneum was determined by 20 strippings with an adhesive tape. From the profile of the amount of drug as a function of the number of strippings, the quantity of drug on the surface of stratum corneum was extrapolated. Based on the amounts of drug entering the stratum corneum during two time intervals $(t_1\;and\;t_2)$ within 1 hour after the application, the diffusion and partition coefficient were determined. Once the diffusion coefficient of the drug in the stratum corneum and the partition coefficient (stratum corneum/vehicle) were determined from the present approach, the steady-state flux of penetration across the stratum corneum was calculated. The steady-state rates of penetration of ascorbic acid and estradiol across hairless mouse skin were evaluated from this approach and compared with those obtained from ill vitro penetration experiment using excised hairless mouse skin. The data confirmed that the proposed method can predict the steady-state rate of penetration of these drugs across the stratum corneum.
This study investigates the effect of $NH_3$ gas upon the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using thermal chemical vapor deposition. It is considered that the CNT synthesis occurs mainly through two steps, clustering of catalyst particles and subsequent growth of CNTs. We thus introduced $NH_3$ during either an annealing or growth step. When $NH_3$ was fed only during annealing, CNTs grew longer and more highly crystalline with diameters unchanged. An addition of $NH_3$ during growth, however, resulted in shorter CNTs with lower crystallinity while increased their diameters. Vertically aligned, highly populated CNT samples showed poor field emission characteristics, leading us to apply post-treatments onto the CNT surface. The CNTs were treated by adhesive tapes or etched back by dc plasma of $N_2$ to reduce the population density and the radius of curvatures of CNTs. We discuss the morphological changes of CNTs and their field emission properties upon surface treatments.
