In this study, the adhesion and thermal property of the electroless-deposited Cu thin film were investigated. The multilayered structure of Cu/TaN/Si was fabricated by electroless-depositing the Cu thin layer on the TaN diffusion barrier which was deposited by MOCVD on the Si substrate. The thermal stability was investigated by measuring the resistivity as post-annealing temperature far the multilayered Cu/TaN/Si specimen which was annealed at Ar gas. The adhesion property of Cu 171ms was evaluated by the scratch test. The adhesion of the electroless-deposited Cu film was compared with other deposition methods of thermal evaporation and sputtering. The scratch test showed that the adhesion of electroless plated Cu film on TaN was better than those of sputtered Cu film and evaporated Cu film.
Material degradation such as high temperature oxidation of metallic material is a severe problem in energy generation systems or manufacturing industries. The metallic materials are oxidized to form oxide films in high temperature environments. The oxide films act as diffusion barriers of oxygen and metal ions and thereafter decrease oxidation rates of metals. The metal oxidation is, however, accelerated by mechanical fracture and spalling of the oxide films caused by thermal stresses by repetition of temperature change, vibration and by the impact of solid particles. It is therefore very important to investigate mechanical properties and adhesion of oxide films in high temperature environments, as well as the properties in a room temperature environment. The oxidation tests were conducted for Ni and Ni-Co alloy under high temperature corrosive environments. The hardness distributions against the indentation depth from the top surface were examined at room temperature. Dynamic indentation tests were performed on Ni oxide films formed on Ni surfaces at room and high temperature to observe fractures or cracks generated around impact craters. As a result, it was found that the mechanical property as hardness of the oxide films were different between Ni and Ni-Co alloy, and between room and high temperatures, and that the adhesion of Ni oxide films was relatively stronger than that of Co oxide films.
To analyze the interfacial property between the fiber and the matrix, work of adhesion was used generally that was calculated by surface energies. In this paper, it was determined what types of contact angle measurement methods were more accurate between static and dynamic contact angle measurements. 4 types of glass fiber and epoxy resin were used each other to measure the contact angle. The contact angle was measured using two types, static and dynamic contact angle methods, and work of adhesion, Wa was calculated to compare interfacial properties. The interfacial property was evaluated using microdroplet pull-out test. Generally, the interfacial property was proportional to work of adhesion. In the case of static contact angle, however, work of adhesion was not consistent with interfacial property. It is because that dynamic contact angle measurement comparing to static contact angle could delete the error due to microdroplet size to minimize the surface area as well as the meniscus measuring error.

Amorphous IZO films were deposited on PET substrate by DC magnetron sputtering without substrate heating. In order to investigate effect of reactive gas addition on film properties, 0.2-0.4% of $H_2$ or $O_2$ gas was introduced during the deposition. Deposited IZO films were evaluated with mechanical property, electrical property, and water permeability. In the case of $H_2$ gas addition, mechanical property showed clear degradation compared to $O_2$ gas. In the case of $O_2$ gas, water permeability of the IZO film was increased compared to $H_2$ gas which could be attributed to the low adhesion of the film caused by bombardment of high energy negative oxygen ion. As a result, it is confirmed that water permeability of the film could be strongly affected by adhesion of the film.
Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives are used in many different parts in the world. But acrylic acid in PSAs may occur unexpected results such as corroding adherends or producing by-products when applied within electronic devices. This study employed acrylic PSAs based on 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA), 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (2-HEA) and butyl acrylate (BA) with different coating thickness. There are two types of curing agents. One is methylaziridine derivative (MAZ) and the other is aluminum acetylacetonate (AlACA). This study examined the adhesion performance and curing behaviors using peel strength, probe tack and gel fraction. Also, the viscoelastic properties of acrylic PSAs were investigated from Advanced rheometric expansion system (ARES).
In the aircraft industry, anti- and de-icing are one of very important techniques for the safety. The anti-icing technique had not been studied while de-icing technique had been not only researched enough but applied to aircraft industry. In this work, surface roughness and energies of polyurethane (PU) topcoat were controlled with 3 different nanoparticles which was coated to PU topcoat. It was evaluated via static contact angle using distilled water. The adhesion property of 3 nanoparticles was evaluated directly using adhesion pull-off test. The color gamut of nanoparticle coated PU topcoat was also evaluated with 3 different nanoparticles. It was determined using RGB color degree variation between neat PU topcoat and coated nanoparticle. Finally, the optimized nanoparticle was determined to manufacture hydrophobic surface and to maintain color of neat PU topcoat for the aircraft.
The mechanical and the platelet adhesion properties of the fluorinated polyurethane elastomers synthesized with a perfluorinated polyether diol (Fomblin ZDOL$ZDOL^{(R)}$) and 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) were investigated. The change of mechanical properties with the Fomblin content and the type of the polyether diol was investigated by applying a designed technique using in vitro platelet adhesion test. As a result, the tensile properties were affected by the content and the type of nixed polyether diols. Also the platelet adhesion of polyurethane elastomers decreased with increasing the extent of fluorination in the polymer.
We have studied on the surface and adhesion properties for acrylic terpolymers, having both hydrophobic and hydrophilic side chains, synthesized via solution polymerization. In order to develop a waterborne material. we tried to synthesize these terpolymers via emulsion polymerization. The polymeric emulsion synthesized was mainly composed of methyl methacrylate (MMA), methoxy-polyethyleneglycol methacrylate (MPEGMA) having hydrophilic side chains and methoxypolypropyleneglycol methacrylate (MPEGMA) having hydrophobic side chains. The viscosities of this series increased with an increase in the content of the co-monomer such as MPEGMA and (MPEGMA). This behavior resulted in the increase in the diameter and heterogeneity of the emulsion particle via AFM observation. Furthermore. the tensile adhesion strength and 90-degree peel strength of the adhesive of these polymeric emulsions were measured. In the case of polymeric emulsion composed of the same content of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic component, the adhesion property showed the highest value. However, since the adhesion properties as a practical applicable adhesive were poor, some improvements were required. When the composition above was modified with butyl acrylate (BA), the improvement effect on adhesion strength was accepted. In particular, 90-degree peel strength increased up to a maximum of 400% of the original value.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion in flexure depending on the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio of the polymer-cement composites(PCCs) for crack repair in RC structures to induce optimal mix proportions. The adhesion in flexure of PCCs for crack repair of RC structure has a significant effect on the polymer type and polymer-cement ratio, and the adhesion in flexure is generally improved with mixing of silica fume as a mixture. The adhesion in flexure according to the type of polymer is slightly higher in the order of SAE, EVA, and SBR, and it is relatively high at the polymer-cement ratio of 60% or 80%. In addition, the adhesion in flexure of PCCs with silica fume ratio of 10% or 20% to the cement weight is higher than that without silica fume. In order to improve the adhesion in flexure of PCCs for repairing cracks in RC structures, the optimal mix design is to properly adjust the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio.

The fiber-reinforced endodontic posts were prepared using a photocurable resin and a glass fiber. The mechanical property of the posts increased with increasing density of glass fiber and the micro-pores in the post were removed by a vacuum impregnation process. To improve the interfacial adhesion between glass fiber and polymer, silane coupling agent was used. The surface treatment of glass fiber increased the surface wettability of resing on glass fiber and increased the adhesion property with resin, consequently improved the mechanical property of posts.
