  • In domestic, irregular walls such as T, L, H and Box shapes are considered as rectangular wall in the design of bearing wall apartment building. The strengths of walls, therefore, can be underestimated in case of using the current design process. Irregular walls are connected to each other as rigid joint so that part of the load can be resisted by the wall perpendicular to the load direction. This resistance can be caused by the effective width of perpendicular wall. This additional resistance by the perpendicular wall increases the strength of structural walls. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effective widths of flanged walls with different aspect ratios by using FEM analyses. the results from finite element method are compared with effective flange widths of some code provisions.

Evaluation of U-Zr Hydride Fuel for a Thorium Fuel Cycle in an RTR Concept

  • In this paper, we performed a design study of a thorium fueled reactor according to the design concept of the Radkowsky Thorium Reactor (RTR) and evaluated its overall performance. To enhance its performance and alleviate its problems, we introduced a new metallic uranium fuel, uranium-zirconium hydride (U-Zr $H_{1.6}$), as a seed fuel. For comparison, typical ABB/CE-type PWR based on SYSTBM 80+ and standard RTR-type thorium reactor were also studied. From the results of performance analysis, we could ascertain advantages of RTR-type thorium fueled reactor in proliferation resistance, fuel cycle economics, and back-end fuel cycle. Also, we found that enhancement of proliferation resistance and safer operating conditions may be achieved by using the U-Zr $H_{l.6}$ fuel in the seed region without additional penalties in comparison with the standard RTR's U-Zr fuelr fuelel

풍화 화연토와 loess의 붕괴특성 비교 (The Comparison of Collapsible Characteristics on Decomposed Granite Soil and Loess)

  • The structure of the collapsible soils, such as decomposed granite soil and loess, were examined by the odeometer test, SEM & XES analysis and static & cyclic triaxial test, and hove this structure have influences upon the collapsible behaviour under static and cyclic load was investigated. The study results obtained are as follows; 1. The macropores space of decomposed granite soil (rd=1.50g/cm3) and loess (rd=1.43g/cm3) used in this test were well developed, and showed the behaviour of collapsible soil. 2. Collapsible soil has high resistance on the strain under natural moisture content, however, the resistance on the strain was sharply decreased by the absorption and increasing load since its special structure was destructed. 3. Under the static load, the strain of collapsible soil was high by the viscous flow of the cyclic bonds with time lapse, but Infer the cyclic load, the strain of collapsible soil was low since the tinge needed to destruct the bonding force of clay was not enough. 4. The understanding about the cyclic behaviour of collapsible soil may be helpful to predict the elastic & residual strain of the foundations by the earthquake together with the damage by the additional failure.

RTP 어닐과 추가 이온 주입에 의한 저-저항 텅스텐 비트-선 구현 (Low-resistance W bit-line implementation with RTP anneal & additional ion implantation)

  • 디바이스의 크기가 0.25㎛이하로 축소됨에 따라 DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory) 제조업체들은 칩 크기를 줄이고 지역적인 배선으로 사용하기 위해서 기존의 텅스텐-폴리사이드 비트-선에서 텅스텐 비트-선으로 대체하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 RTP 온도와 추가 이온주입을 사용하여 낮은 저항을 갖는 텅스텐 비트-선 제조 공정에 대해 다루었다. 그 결과 텅스텐 비트선 저항에 중요한 메계변수는 RTP Anneal 온도와 BF₂ 이온 주입 도펀트임을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 텅스텐 비트-선 공정은 고밀도 칩 구현에 중요한 기술이 된다.

  • In railway structure, long rail causes the increase of stress. Especially, additional stress and displacement are caused by the discontinuity and variations of the stiffness of substructures in the section of bridges.   • Composite boundary elements with H steel sections could be used to enhance the strength and ductility of high-rise shear walls. The enhancement of earthquake resistance is expected to be achieved due to the inherent strength and ductility of the steel sections, and also due to the confinement effect to a core concrete. Experimental study were peformed for the compression zone of composite shear walls with multiple H sections at the boundaries. The effect of the steel sections on the overall behavior of the composite shear walls were investigated. Also, additional tests were conducted to investigate the contribution of H sections to the confinement of concrete.

  • This paper presents the state of the art of the CFD applications to vegetated open-channel flows. First, important aspects of the physics of vegetated flows found through the laboratory experiments are briefly reviewed. Then, previous CFD applications to one-dimensional vertical structure, partly-vegetated flows, compound open-channel flows with floodplain vegetation, and fully three-dimensional numerical simulations are reviewed. Finally, topics for further researches such as relationship between the resistance and flexural rigidity, additional drag due to foliages, and melting the experience of CFD with the depth-averaged modeling, are suggested.

  • We study the Chua oscillator circuit by considering a negative resistor as a characteristic parameter which controlled by the CdS(Cadmium Sulphide) cell. This is a new way to observe several chaotic phenomena with the same initial condition continuously. Since we can control the internal resistance of the CdS cell by an additional circuit, our autonomous chaotic oscillator circuit makes it possible to measure the voltage value continuously and automatically.

  • Lactic acid producing bacteria were isolated from baby feces and characterized to be used as a probiotic with anti Helicobacter pylori functions. The selected bacteria had inhibition activity on the adherance and growth of H. pylori. These bacteria had additional beneficial characteristics for the probiotic such as antibacterial activity, antitumor activity, immunostimulation activity, resistance to antibiotic and bile salt, ability to bind to the intestinal cells, and safe for the human use.

선체조도에서의 저항증가의 평가에 관한 연구 (A study on the Valuation of Resistance increase due to any quality at hull roughness)

  • This paper deals with the method of determining the drag of hull surface which has any quality of roughness. The method consists mainly of the theoretical point of view, then the theory enables the drag coefficient to be calculated at full scale. The hydrodynamical roughness function of hull surface ${\triangle}U_+$, affected by the hull roughness are considered as to two cases, smooth surface and rough surface case separately. The inadequacy of a single parameter to define hull roughness is discussed and thus an as additional texture parameter is proposed.
