  • The rate constants for the addition reaction of n-butylmercaptan to ethylacrylate have been measured by iodometry and for the proposed reaction mechanism a rate equation which can be applied over wide pH range was derived. From this rate equation, one may conclude that the reaction is started by addition of n-butylmercaptan molecule below pH 4. However, above pH 7, this addition reaction is proceeded by the n-butylmercaptide ions. At pH 4-7, the complex addition reaction mechanism can also be revealed by this rate equation.

  • In this study, the effect of formaldehyde to phenol (F/P) molar ratios, catalyst wt%, and reaction temperature on the chemical structure was studied utilizing a two-level full factorial experimental design. The effect of three variables on the chemical structure was analyzed by using three-way ANOVA of SPSS. Concentration of methyrol-substituted phenols after 300 min addition reaction increased with higher the F/P mole ratio, lower the reaction temperature and lower the catalyst wt%. Resol catalysed by barium hydroxide showed higher addition of formaldehyde onto ortho positions of phenolic rings. A simplified elementary reaction model for resole type phenolic resin formation which do not consider the dissociation of phenolic compounds and the fraction of formaldehyde in the form of methylene glycol was proposed and compared with Zavitsas' type models. Elementary reaction model showed error of 2.79% compared to the error of 3.27% in Zavitsas' type models. It was thought that the elementary reaction model could be used to predict the behavior of addition reaction in resol formation.

  • Furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives were synthesis, it was measured that nucleophilic addition made use of UV at a wide pH 1.0${\sim}$13.0 range in 30% dioxane-$H_2O$ solution, 25$^{\circ}C$. On the basis of general base catalysis, substitutent effect, confirmation of nucleophilic addition products, it was measured the reaction rate of furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives for the pH change. It may be concluded that a part was unrelated to pH and another part was in proportion to concentration of hydroxide ion: Above pH 10.0. sulfide anion adds to the double bond (Michael type addition), a part having no concern with pH, addition reaction to double bond is initiated by addition of neutral thiourea molecule. From the result of measurement the reaction rate, nucleophilic addition of furfurylidene acetophenone derivatives confirmed to the irreversible first order. Through measurement the substituent effect. It found that reaction rate was accelerated by electron attracting group. On the basis of these findings, nucleophilic addition of thiourea for the furfurylidene acetophenone derivative was proposed a fitting mechanisms.

  • The alkyl Grignard addition reaction on 1-benzyltetrazolylimine proceeds to give N-alkylated products (azophilic addition) and, in contrast, the same reaction on 2-benzyltetrazolylimine produced predominantly C-alkylated products (carbophilic addition). In this report we described theoretical explanations for this experimental finding on the basis of the frontier molecular orbitals and the electrostatic nature of the reactants and the reaction intermediates.

  • The rate constant of the nucleophilic addition of 1-propanethiol to ${\alpha}-phenyl-N-iso-propylnitrone$ derivatives were determined at various pH and a rate equation which can be applied over wide pH range is obtained. Final product of the addition reaction was ${\alpha}-thiopropyl-p-phenylbenzylideneamine$. Base on the rate equation, general base effect, substituent effect and final product, plausible mechanism of addition reaction have been proposed. Below pH 3.0, the reaction was initiated by the addition of 1-propanthiol, and in the range of pH 3.0-10.0, proceeded by the competitive addition of 1-propanethiol and propanethiolate. Above the pH 10.0, the reaction proceeded through the addition of propanethiolate.

  • Fluorenylidene chalcone derivatives were synthesized by condensation. The structure of these compounds were ascertained by means of UV, melting point, IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectra. The nucleophilic addition reaction kinetics of Thioglycolic acid to fluorenylidene chalcone was investigate by UV in 20% $dioxane-H_2O$ at $25^{\circ}C$. The rate equation which were applied over a wide $pH1.0{\sim}13.0$ range. On the basis of general base catalysis and confirmation of addition reaction product, the nucleophilic addtion reaction kinetics of thioglycolic acid to fluorenylidene chalcone were measured by the pH change. From the result of the above caption, a plausible nucleophilic addition reaction mechanism of thioglycolic acid to fluorenylidene chalcone was proposed. These compounds may be used as the starting materials for the preparation of the engineering plastics or the germicide.

  • The iron-zinc interfacial reaction and corrosin properties in galvanizing bath containning Ni have been intestigated. The substrate steel plates were galvanized in Zn or Zn-0.018Al baths with various Ni contents. The corrosion resistance of galvanized specimens was also evaluated by $60^{\circ}$bending test for galvannealing speaaimens. The corrosion resistance was improved with Ni addition in pure Zn bath, while deteriorated with Ni addition in Zn-0.18Al bath. The anti-powdering property, on thhe otherhand, was improved with Ni addition in Zn-0.18Al bath, while deteriorated with Ni addition in pure Zn. It was found that the anti-powdering property was improved with increasing $\xi$ phase ratio in reaction layer.

  • The rate-constants of the nucleophilic addition reaction of n-butylmercaptan to 3,4-methylenedioxy-${\beta}$-nitrostyrene were determined at various acidic pH and a rate equation which can be applied over wide pH range was obtained. From this equation, one may conclude that this reaction is started by addition of mercaptan molecule below pH 3, while above pH 6, the overall rate of addition is almost only depend upon the concentration of nitrostyrene and the mercaptide ion. At pH 3∼6, the complex mechanism of this addition reaction can also be fully explained by the rate equation.

  • Cationic surfactants have a bactericidal effect and the study for effective development of them became important parts in the industry. There have been increasing researches that focus on the development of products having not only outstanding features but also safety and biodegradability. In this work, novel ester-type cationic surfactants were obtained via Michael addition reaction. Intermediates were quantitatively prepared by the Michael addition reaction between alkyl acrylate and amine compounds under mild conditions without solvent and catalyst. The intermediates were quaternized with dimethyl sulfate. HQ21 with two hydrophobic groups and a hydrophilic group and HQ22 with two hydrophobic groups and two hydrophilic groups were obtained. The structures of the products were characterized by 1H-NMR, HR-MS and FT-IR and biodegradability of the products were tested.
