Digital images and videos are subject to various types of noise during storage and transmission. Among these noises, Salt & Pepper noise degrades the compression efficiency of the original data and causing deterioration of performance in edge detection or segmentation used in an image processing method. In order to mitigate this noise, there are many filters such as Median Filter, Weighted Median Filter, Center Weighted Median Filter, Switching Weighted Median Filter and Adaptive Median Filter. However these methods are inferior in performance at high noise density. In this paper we propose a new type of filter for noise mitigation in wireless communication environment where Salt & Pepper noise occurs. The proposed filter detects the location of the damaged pixel by Salt & Pepper noise detection and mitigates the noise by using adjacent pixel values which are not damaged in a certain area. Among the proposed filters, the performance of the filter using the $3{\times}3$ error mask is compared with that of the conventional methods and it is confirmed that when density of noise in the image is 95%, their performances are improved as 13.24 dB compared to MF and 13.09 dB compared to AMF.

Corruption occurs in the process of processing image signal and the corruption changes the pixel value within the image to damage the original information. AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) is a representative example. For filters to remove AWGN, there are filters such as MF(mean filter), WF(wiener filter), and AWMF(adaptive weighted mean filter). However images processed through standard previous filters lock preservation characteristics in edge areas. Therefore, threshold value is applied for processing on the standard deviation of the local mask in this study and if the standard deviation is smaller than the threshold value, it is not filtered and if the value is bigger than the threshold value, the study suggested an algorithm that processes using weighted value utilizing standard deviation.

In this paper, an adaptive observe based upon the exponentially weighted least-squares method is implemented in the design of a model reference adaptive controller for an unknown time-invariant discrete single-input single-output linear plant. A method of selecting the state variable filter is proposed. In this scheme, all the past data are weithted exponentially with the weighting coefficient.
This research investigates the adaptive input estimation method applied to the multilayer shearing stress structure. This method is to estimate the values of wind load inputs by analyzing the active reaction of the system. The Kalman filter without the input term and the adaptive weighted recursive least square estimator are two main portions of this method. The innovation vector can be produced by the Kalman filter, and be applied to the adaptive weighted recursive least square estimator to estimate the wind load input over time. This combined method can effectively estimate the wind loads to the structure system to enhance the reliability of the system active performance analysis. The forms of the simulated inputs (loads) in this paper include the periodic sinusoidal wave, the decaying exponent, the random combination of the sinusoidal wave and the decaying exponent, etc. The active reaction computed plus the simulation error is regard as the simulated measurement and is applied to the input estimation algorithm to implement the numerical simulation of the inverse input estimation process. The availability and the precision of the input estimation method proposed in this research can be verified by comparing the actual value and the one obtained by numerical simulation.

Recently, the image processing technologies using the public media such as the film, TV, camera and advertisement have been rapidly developed. However, the deterioration occurs with the image in the process of data processing, transmission and storage, and the typical cause of such deterioration is the salt and pepper noise. Typical filters to remove the salt and pepper noise include CWMF(center weighted median filter) and AMF(adaptive median filter) but such filters bring more or less insufficient characteristics of noise removal and visual error as the noise density gets higher. Thus, this paper proposed the median filter which applied the local mask segmented to 4 areas in order to remove the salt and pepper noise effectively and used PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as a criterion of judgment.
Convergence difficulty and available complete measurement information have been considered as two primary challenges for the identification of large-scale engineering structures. In this paper, a time domain substructural identification approach by combining a weighted adaptive iteration (WAI) algorithm and an extended Kalman filter method with a weighted global iteration (EFK-WGI) algorithm was proposed for simultaneous identification of physical parameters of concerned substructures and unknown external excitations applied on it with limited response measurements. In the proposed approach, according to the location of the unknown dynamic loadings and the partially available structural response measurements, part of structural parameters of the concerned substructure and the unknown loadings were first identified with the WAI approach. The remaining physical parameters of the concerned substructure were then determined by EFK-WGI basing on the previously identified loadings and substructural parameters. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed approach was demonstrated via a 20-story shear building structure and 23 degrees of freedom (DOFs) planar truss model with unknown external excitation and limited observations. Results show that the proposed approach is capable of satisfactorily identifying both the substructural parameters and unknown loading within limited iterations when both the excitation and dynamic response are partially unknown.
In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vector median filtering only to the blocks with unreliable motion vectors. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive motion vector smoothing algorithm improves the quality of the side information significantly while maintaining low complexity at the encoder in frame-based distributed video coding.
The innovative intelligent fuzzy weighted input estimation method which efficiently and robustly estimates the unknown time-varying input force in on-line is presented in this paper. The algorithm includes the Kalman Filter (KF) and the recursive least square estimator (RLSE), which is weighted by the fuzzy weighting factor proposed based on the fuzzy logic inference system. To directly synthesize the Kalman filter with the estimator, this work presents an efficient robust forgetting zone, which is capable of providing a reasonable compromise between the tracking capability and the flexibility against noises. The capability of this inverse method are demonstrated in the input force estimation cases of the plate structure system. The proposed algorithm is further compared by alternating between the constant and adaptive weighting factors. The results show that this method has the properties of faster convergence in the initial response, better target tracking capability, and more effective noise and measurement bias reduction.

Image signal is corrupted by various noises in image processing, many studies are being accomplished to restore those images. In this paper, we proposed a cascade filter algorithm for removing random valued impulse noise. The algorithm consists two steps that noise detection and noise elimination. Variance of filtering mask and center pixel variance are calculated for noise detection, and the noise pixel is replaced by estimated value which first apply switching self adaptive weighted median filter and finally processed by modified weight filter. Considering the proposed algorithm only remove noise and preserve the uncorrupted information that the algorithm can not only remove noise well but also preserve edge.

Images are easily corrupted by noise during the data transmission, data capture and data processing. A technical method of noise analyzing and adaptive filtering for reducing of quantum noise in radiography is presented. By adjusting the characteristics of the filter according to local statistics around each pixel of the image as moving windowing, it is possible to suppress noise sufficiently while preserve edge and other significant information required in reading. We have proposed adaptive weighted median(AWM) filters based on local statistics. We show two ways of realizing the AWM filters. One is a simple type of AWM filter, whose weights are given by a simple non-linear function of three local characteristics. The other is the AWM filter which is constructed by homogeneous factor(HF). Homogeneous factor(HF) from the quantum noise models that enables the filter to recognize the local structures of the image is introduced, and an algorithm for determining the HF fitted to the detection systems with various inner statistical properties is proposed. We show by the experimented that the performances of proposed method is superior to these of other filters and models in preserving small details and suppressing the noise at homogeneous region. The proposed algorithms were implemented by visual C++ language on a IBM-PC Pentium 550 for testing purposes, the effects and results of the noise filtering were proposed by comparing with images of the other existing filtering methods.
