  • This paper proposes a method to improve the image quality by designing Unsharp Mask Filter (UMF) based on Retinex theory which controls the frequency pass characteristics adaptively. Conventional unsharp masking technique uses blurring image to emphasize sharpness of image. Unsharp Masking(UM) adjusts the original image and sigma to obtain a high frequency component to be emphasized by the difference between the blurred image and the high frequency component to the original image, thereby improving the contrast ratio of the image. In this paper, we design a Unsharp Mask Filter(UMF) that can process the contrast ratio improvement method of Unsharp Masking(UM) technique with one filtering. We adaptively process the contrast ratio improvement using Unsharp Mask Filter(UMF). We propose a method based on Retinex theory for adaptive processing. For adaptive filtering, we control the weights of Unsharp Mask Filter(UMF) based on the human visual system and output more effective results.

  • In this paper, the novel approach for image contrast enhancement is introduced. The method is based on the unsharp mask and directional information of images. Since the unsharp mask techniques give better visual quality than the conventional sharpening mask, there are much works on image enhancement using unsharp masks. The proposed algorithm decomposes the image to several blocks and extracts directional information using DCT. From the geometric properties of the block, each block is labeled as appropriate type and processed by adaptive unsharp mask. The masking process is skipped at the flat area to reduce the noise artifact, but at the texture and edge area, the adaptive unsharp mask is applied to enhance the image contrast based on the edge direction. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm produces the contrast enhanced images with superior visual quality, suppressing the noise effects and enhancing edge at the same time.

  • Speech enhancement algorithm plays an important role in numerous speech signal processing applications. Over the last few decades, many algorithms have been studied for speech enhancement. The algorithms are based on spectral subtraction, Wiener filter, and subspace method etc. They have good performance of speech enhancement, but the performance can be deteriorated in specific noises or low SNR environment. In this paper, a new speech enhancement algorithms are proposed based on adaptive noise canceller. And the proposed algorithm improved performance of adaptive noise cancelling using 2-D binary mask. From objective experimental index, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm is useful and has better performance than recently proposed speech enhancement algorithms.

  • In images, the edge is an important element to analyze characteristics of the image and has been used selectively at several applications. Even now, many researches to detect and take advantage of theses edges are underway and in initially to detect edges, methods using the relation of adjacent pixels are proposed. Characteristic of these methods is that the processing speed of the algorithms is fast, but the specific weighted values are applied to all the pixels regardless of the images equally. In recent years, the research of the edge detection algorithm to adapt according to the image has been actively underway, in order to complement the drawbacks of the existing methods. Therefore, in order to detect the edge excellent characteristics In this paper, we proposed algorithm using adaptive mask.

  • We propose a rolled fingerprint merging algorithm that effectively merges plain fingerprints in consecutive frame units that are fed through rolling and detects more fingerprint minutiae in order to increase the fingerprint recognition rate. The proposed rolled fingerprint merging algorithm uses a adaptive projection mask; it contains a detector that separates plain fingerprints from the background and a projection mask generator that sequentially projects the detect ed images. In addition, in the merging unit, the pyramid-shaped projection method is used to detect merged rolled fingerprints from the generated variable projective mask, starting from the main images. Simulations show that the extracted minutia e are 46.79% more than those from plain fingerprints, and the proposed algorithm exhibits excellent performance by detecting 52.0% more good fingerprint minutiae that are needed for matching.

  • During the transmission process of processing of image, various noises are added causing an error to the image. In order to restore these images, methods such as alpha trimmed average filter, standard median filter and switching median filter were proposed but such previous methods has insufficient noise suppression characteristics. Therefore in this paper, in order to remove the impulse noise added to the image, an adaptive median filter algorithm modified to expand the mask according to the noise density of mask pixels was proposed.

  • In this paper, the wavelet watermarking algorithm based on adaptive weight MASK processing as a watermark embedded-method for Copyright Protection of Digital contents is Proposed. Because watermark induce as a noise of original image, the watermark size should be limited for preventing quality losses and embedding watermark into images. Therefore, it should be preserve the best condition of the factors, robustness, capacity and visual quality. Tn order to solve this problem, we propose watermarking embedded method by applying adaptive weight MASK to the algorithm and optimize its efficiency. In that result, the watermarked images are improved about external attack. Specifically, correlation coefficient has over 0.8 on both modifications of brightness and contrast. Also, correlation coefficient of wavelet compression of embedded watermark last by over 0.65.

  • This paper presents a new edge detection algorithm in color image. The proposed Adaptive morphological Wavelet-CNN algorithm is divided into two parts : The Adaptive morpholog and WCNN(Wavelet Cellular Neural Networks). It detects the optimal edge with applying this color image to WCNN algorithm, after it does level up a boundary side of a color image by using the adaptive morphology as the threshold of an input color image. Also, it is used not a conventional fixed mask edge detection method but variable mask method which is called a variable BBM. Finally, to show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, this paper provides by simulation that the color image consists of 30.

  • Image restoration refers to removing different kinds of noise added to image, and to reducing effect of noise upon image. For image restoration, some methods such as mean filter, median filter and weighted filter were proposed, but the existing methods have poor denoising and edge-reserved performance. Therefore, in this paper modified median filter algorithm was proposed that enlarges mask size according to median value of mask in order to remove noise efficiently. And, it was compared by simulation to the existing methods, and MSE(mean squared error) was used on a criterion of evaluation.
