In this paper, the channel decoder promising reliable data retrieving in noisy holographic channel has been developed for holographic WORM(write once read many) system. It covers various DSP(digital signal processing) blocks, such as align mark detector, adaptive channel equalizer, modulation decoder and ECC(error correction code) decoder. The specific schemes of DSP are designed to reduce the effect of noises in holographic WORM(H-WORM) system, particularly in prototype of DAEWOO electronics(DEPROTO). For real time data retrieving, the channel decoder is redesigned for FPGA(field programmable gate array) based hardware, where DSP blocks calculate in parallel sense with memory buffers between blocks and controllers for driving peripherals of FPGA. As an input source of the experiments, MPEG2 TS(transport stream) data was used and recorded to DEPROTO system. During retrieving, the CCD(charge coupled device), capturing device of DEPROTO, detects retrieved images and transmits signals of them to the FPGA of hardware channel decoder. Finally, the output data stream of the channel decoder was transferred to the MPEG decoding board for monitoring video signals. The experimental results showed the error corrected BER(bit error rate) of less than $10^{-9}$, from the raw BER of DEPROTO, about $10^{-3}$. With the developed hardware channel decoder, the real-time video demonstration was possible during the experiments. The operating clock of the FPGA was 60 MHz, of which speed was capable of decoding up to 120 mega channel bits per sec.

The investigation into the effect of various feedback errors on system performance can help the robust feedback channel design and transmission of exact feedback channel information as well. In this paper, we address the algorithm that determines space combining weight vector maximizing received signal power at mobile on frequency flat fading channel and investigate the performance degradation by feedback channel delay in the FDD/CDMA systems employing transmit beamforming. We observe the effect of feedback channel delay corresponding to the number of transmit antennas and the temporal/spatial correlation of channel. The results show that performance is more sensitive to feedback delay with the larger number of antennas when fadings at transmit antennas are not spatially correlated.
In this paper, performance evaluation of mobile access layer for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) MultiCarrier(MC)/CDMA 16 QAM system is considered to mitigate multiple access interference and enhance system channel capacity in Rayleigh wireless fading channel. Traditionally, multi-path is viewed as an undesirable feature of wireless communications. Therefore, diversity and adaptive array schemes are proposed to mitigate its effects. Recently, to increase the spectrum efficiency and the link reliability, MIMO schemes is devised to exploit multi-path in a scattering wireless channel. In particular, the channel capacity of MIMO-MC/CDMA 16 QAM system is evaluated according to Eb/No, Mc, p. From the results, in order to improve the channel capacity, the signals at various elements must be uncorrelated. And if the paths are correlated due to inappropriate spacing or mutual coupling effects, the channel capacity of MIMO-MC/CDMA 16 QAM system becomes substantially smaller.

The performance variations of a spatio temporal smart antenna which is equipped at the basestation of CDMA cellular communication network due to the parametric change of multipath fading environment are studied in this paper. The smart antenna of interest employs space diversity based adaptive array structure in conjunction with rake receiver that has fingers the number of which is the same as that of multipath links. The beamforming is achieved via LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm in which a reference signal is generated using decision directed formula. It has been shown by computer simulation that the performance of our smart antenna of interest depends significantly upon not only the degree of desired signal's DOA(Direction of Arrival)spread but the number of fingers of the rake receiver. The relative insensitivity of the smart antenna's performance on desired signal's delay spread has also been observed. Computer simulation has shown that the increase of the number of fingers brings in a nonlinear enhancement of the performance of our smart antenna. The renewal of weight vector in the beamforming procedure is taken place at post PN despread stage.

To study the radiation related gene expression in mutants of Bacillus lentimorbus WJ5 induced by gamm radiation, the simultaneous gene expression was analyzed by DNA micro array. We constructed DNA chips including two thousand randomly digested genome spots of B. lentimorbus WJ5 and compared its quantitative aspect with seven mutants induced by gamma radiation $(^{60}/Co)$. From the cluster analysis of gene expression pattern, totally 408 genes were expressed and 27 genes were significantly upregulated by the gamma radiation in all mutants. Especially, genes involved in repair (mutL, mutM), energy metabolism (acsA, sdhB, pgk, yhjB, citB), protease (npr), and reduction response to oxidative stress (HMM) were simultaneously upregulated. It seems that the induction of the direct and/or indirect repair related genes in mutants induced by gamma radiation could be remarkably different from the adaptive responses against acute exposure to radiation.

Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) has been developing the space optical and laser tracking (SOLT) system for space geodesy, space situational awareness, and Korean space missions. The SOLT system comprises satellite laser ranging (SLR), adaptive optics (AO), and debris laser tracking (DLT) systems, which share numerous subsystems, such as an optical telescope and tracking mount. It is designed to be capable of laser ranging up to geosynchronous Earth orbit satellites with a laser retro-reflector array, space objects imaging brighter than magnitude 10, and laser tracking low Earth orbit space debris of uncooperative targets. For the realization of multiple functions in a novel configuration, the SOLT system employs a switching mirror that is installed inside the telescope pedestal and feeds the beam path to each system. The SLR and AO systems have already been established at the Geochang station, whereas the DLT system is currently under development and the AO system is being prepared for testing. In this study, the design and development of the SOLT system are addressed and the SLR data quality is evaluated compared to the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) tracking stations in terms of single-shot ranging precision. The analysis results indicate that the SLR system has a good ranging performance, to a few millimeters precision. Therefore, it is expected that the SLR system will not only play an important role as a member of the ILRS tracking network, but also contribute to future Korean space missions.
A tapered As2S3 photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with four layers of air holes in a hexagonal array around the core is designed in this paper. Numerical simulation shows that the dispersion D decreases and the nonlinearity coefficient γ increases from the thick to the thin end along the tapered PCF. We simulate the midinfrared pulse compression in the tapered As2S3 PCF using the adaptive split-step Fourier method. Initial Gaussian pulses of 4.4 ps and a central wavelength of 2.5 ㎛ propagating in the tapered PCF are located in the anomalous dispersion region. With an average power of assumed input pulses at 3 mW and a repetition frequency of 81.0 MHz, we theoretically obtain a pulse duration of 56 fs and a compression factor of 78 when the pulse propagates from the thick end to the thin end of the tapered PCF. When confinement loss in the tapered PCF is included in the simulation, the minimum pulse duration reaches 72 fs; correspondingly, the maximum compression factor reaches 61. The results show that in the anomalous-dispersion region, midinfrared pulses can be efficiently compressed in a dispersion-decreasing and nonlinearity-increasing tapered As2S3 PCF. Due to confinement loss in the tapered fiber, the efficiency of pulse compression is suppressed.
Conventional methods like PIN used in conventional smartphone form factor have not considered the variation in display structure or screen size. As a result, when applied to recent variable display-based smartphones, the secret information input unit may get reduced or enlarged, leading to vulnerabilities for social engineering attacks due to deformation of the display area. This study proposes a secure keypad that responds to changes in display size in rollable and bendable smart phones. Firstly, the security problems that may arise when applying classical authentication methods to new form factors were analyzed, and corresponding security requirements were derived. The proposed security keypad addresses the key input error problem that can occur when the screen size is small. The arrangement and size of keys can be deformed with the spacing suitable for input depending on the display size of rollable and bendable smartphones. The study also considered the problem of leaking input information for social engineering attacks by irregularly distributing key input coordinates. The proposed method provides better user experience and security than existing methods and can be used in smartphones of various sizes and shapes.

KASI (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute) has been developing the multipurpose laser tracking system with three functions of satellite laser tracking, adaptive optics and space debris laser tracking for scientific research and national space missions. The space debris laser tracking system provides the distance to space debris without a laser retro-reflector array by using a high power pulse laser, which employs a spinning disk to change the optical path between the transmit and receive beams. The spinning disk causes the collision band which is unable to reflect the returned signal to a detector and then has an effect on the tracking coverage of space debris. This study proposed the mathematical model for tracking coverage by taking into account the various specifications of spinning disk such as disk size, spinning velocity and collision rate between the disk and hole. In addition, the spinning disk specifications were analyzed in terms of tracking coverage and collision band based on the mathematical model to investigate tracking requirements of the Geochang laser tracking system.
Objective: We introduce a hand gesture segmentation method using a wrist-worn wearable device which can recognize simple gestures of clenching and unclenching ones' fist. Background: There are many types of smart watches and fitness bands in the markets. And most of them already adopt a gesture interaction to provide ease of use. However, there are many cases in which the malfunction is difficult to distinguish between the user's gesture commands and user's daily life motion. It is needed to develop a simple and clear gesture segmentation method to improve the gesture interaction performance. Method: At first, we defined the gestures of making a fist (start of gesture command) and opening one's fist (end of gesture command) as segmentation gestures to distinguish a gesture. The gestures of clenching and unclenching one's fist are simple and intuitive. And we also designed a single gesture consisting of a set of making a fist, a command gesture, and opening one's fist in order. To detect segmentation gestures at the bottom of the wrist, we used a wrist strap on which an array of infrared sensors (emitters and receivers) were mounted. When a user takes gestures of making a fist and opening one's a fist, this changes the shape of the bottom of the wrist, and simultaneously changes the reflected amount of the infrared light detected by the receiver sensor. Results: An experiment was conducted in order to evaluate gesture segmentation performance. 12 participants took part in the experiment: 10 males, and 2 females with an average age of 38. The recognition rates of the segmentation gestures, clenching and unclenching one's fist, are 99.58% and 100%, respectively. Conclusion: Through the experiment, we have evaluated gesture segmentation performance and its usability. The experimental results show a potential for our suggested segmentation method in the future. Application: The results of this study can be used to develop guidelines to prevent injury in auto workers at mission assembly plants.
