Objective : To research the trends of study related to osteoarthritis with acupuncture in PubMed, and to establish he hereafter direction of acupuncture for osteoarthritis. Methods : We searthed in PubMed, with osteoarthritis and acupuncture limited by abstract, human, English. Results : 1. The pattern of study was as follow: Review article(2), Clinical Trials(13), randomized controlled trials(13). bee venom acupuncture(1), electroacupuncture(1). We further estimated 15 articles. 2. The lesion of osteoarthritis & kinds of acupuncture were as follows: knee(12), hip(2), cervical vertebral(1), bee venom acupuncture(1), electroacupuncture(1). 3. Most clinical trials are related to decrease of pain, functional improvement. 4. 10 of clinical studies provide affirmative result. And they recommend acupuncture for osteoarthritis. 5. 4 of clinical studies provide negative result. And these studies are designed by sham acupuncture method.

Objectives: This sutdy aims to research the trend of the studies related with acupuncture treatment of asthma. Methods: We searched the electronic database and reviewed ReT studies comparing the effect of sham and real acupuncture published after 2000 Results: We selected eight articles. Effectiveness of asthma acupuncture treatment was generally insufficient. Three articles reported acupuncture to be effective in subjective symptoms and quality of life. Other three articles reported that acupucture treatment was moderately effective but, insignificant compared to sham acupuncture treatment. Some articles reported that acupucture treatment was significant in the decrease of drug dosage and immunologic regulation. Conclusion : For the study on acupuncture treatments in asthma, it is necessary that we conduct research on the various natures of acupuncture. More clinical data would be needed to prove the effects of acupuncture treatment in asthma.

The purpose of this study was to analyze acupuncture treatment methods and acupoint used to treat infertility in the last decade. The data were retrieved from 2010.1 to 2021.8. using national and international electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, OASIS, NDSL, and KISS). "Infertility," "sterility," "acupuncture," "electroacupuncture," "bloodletting," "pharmacopuncture," were used as search terms. All studies were mainly concerned with acupuncture treatment of infertility, but the studies which were not related included; (1) infertility or acupuncture treatment; (2) animal studies; (3) review/meta/protocol or clinical study; comparative studies and case reports which were excluded from this review. Only clinical trials for acupuncture treatment of infertility were included in this review (n = 18). For infertility treatment studies using acupuncture, polycystic ovarian syndrome was the main cause of infertility, the most common acupoint used was CV4, CV3, CV6, SP6, BL23, and the treatment effect significantly improved in the group receiving acupuncture treatment compared with the control group, or the group taking Western medicine alone. In some studies, the group using acupuncture treatment did not show side effects. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for infertility.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to find the effects of Sa-Am stomach tonifying acupuncture on radial pulse through the parameters difference. Methods : Forty healthy subjects participated in this study, acupuncture group and control group were divided. Radial pulse were measured using 3 dimensional pulse imaging system(DMP-3000). 19 parameters that significantly changed were selected after comparing between acupuncture group and control group. Then, 19 parameters were analyzed before, immediately after, 30 minutes after and 60 minutes after acupuncture in acupucture group. Results : 1. Heart rate, pulse period, T/T1, T2/T, T4/T, T5/T, T-T4, (T-T4)/T and T4/(T-T4) significantly changed after acupuncture. 2. H1 Amplitude, H2 Amplitude, H4 Amplitude and H5 Amplitude significantly changed after acupuncture. 3. Area of Pulse Wave, Systolic Pulse Area, Diastolic Pulse Area and Area of W significantly changed after acupuncture. 4. AIx/HR significantly changed after acupuncture. Conclusion : Stomach Tonifying Acupuncture exerts an influence on radial pulse parameters. Further radial pulse change study on various acupuncture treatment is required.

Objectives : The Purpose of this report is to examine the effect of Remote Acupuncture Point Needling in the Low Back Pain patient of Acute Stage. Methods : From October 1st 2005 to May 31th 2006, 30 cases of low back pain patients at acute stage were divided into 2 groups; one group(control group) took near acupuncture point needling, and the other group(test group) took near acupuncture point needling with remote acupuncture point needling. For evaluating change of pain, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) was checked before and after Treatment. Results : Both acupuncture therapy showed good effect on low back pain of acute stage. And test group showed better effect on decreasing pain than control group. It was proved by the difference between VAS checked before treatment and what checked after treatment. But it was not significant statistically. Conclusion : Near acupuncture point needling and remote acupuncture point needling can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat low back pain of acute stage.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of treating low back pain patients with Foot acupuncture. Methods : Clinical study was conducted to 40 patients who were treated in Dept. of Acupuncture and Moxibusion, Woosuk University Hospital from March 1 to December 31, 2010. Subject were randomly divided into two groups. In one group(test group), patients were treated with both acupuncture and Foot acupuncture. And in the other group(control group), patients were treated with acupuncture. To estimate the efficacy of treatments, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Oswestry disability index(ODI) were checked. 12 patients were excluded and we investigated 14 patients of control group and 14 patients of test group entirely. Results : 1. In both two groups, VAS and ODI of patients were decreased significantly. 2. ODI of patients in test group were decreased more significantly than ODI of patients in control group. Conclusions : We suggest that cotreatment of acupuncture and foot acupuncture on low back pain patients can be recommended as a useful therapy.

Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate a recent status of acupunctural treatment in pediatric practice. Methods: 660,893 children, who visited HAMSOA oriental clinic from January 2004 to December 2005 was screened to decide the number treated with acupuncture, the diagnosis and the type of acupuncture. In addition, the questionnaire for clinician about acupuncture therapy was performed and analysed to understand their applications. Results: The number treated with acupuncture was 69,797, 10.56%. Classified with ages, 3 months and below was 729 (1.7%), 1 year - 3 months was 5,035 (11.80%), 2 year - 1 year was 6,875 (16.10%), 3 year - 2 year was 5,540 (12.98%), 6 year - 3 year was 12.636 (31.94%) and 6 year and above was 10,876 (25.48%). The most frequent diagnosis taken acupuncture was atopic dermatitis (14.93%) and the next was rhinitis (13.80%). The most frequent type of acupuncture was laser acupuncture. The clinicians answered questionnaire agreed that acupuncture therapy is effective for pediatric disease treatment and fear about acupuncture of young patients was the most important obstacle. Conclusion : The acupuncture therapy in pediatric practice is not so frequent treatment but in increasing stage. Futhermore, in-depth research about acupuncture therapy in pediatrics is demanded.

Chronic headache is one of the most common symptoms of outpatients. There are many approaches to treat chronic headache, but it is difficult to be resolved completely. So analgesics-addicted patients are increased in numbers. Acupuncture and ear-acupuncture have been used for relief headache. But it is not sufficient to compare the effect of acupuncture on several chronic headache groups. Thus we investigate the effect of acupuncture and ear-acupuncture on several chronic headache groups and analgesics-abused groups. We researched 36 patients who were treated at Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Kyung Hee Medical Center from August 1998 to July 1999. The chronic headache patients were classified into tension-type headache group, migraine group and unclassified headache group by Guide of IHS. Each group was treated with acupuncture and ear-acupuncture. The effect was assessed through questionnaires and self-rating headache index.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of acupuncture and electro-acupuncture at $LR_3$ on intestinal motility in rat. Methods : We made over-activated state of intestinal motility with carbachol and suppressed state of intestinal motility with loperamide in rat and carried out needle retention acupuncture and high frequency electro-acupuncture at $LR_3$ in rat devided into pre-treatment group and post-treatment group. The charcoal travel rate was measured to evaluate the intestinal motility. Results : 1. High frequency electro-acupuncture at $LR_3$ have significant influences on intestinal motility of rat in normal state. 2. Pre-treatment of needle retention acupuncture, high frequency electro-acupuncture significantly decreased intestinal motility in rat which over-activated with carbachol. 3. Post-treatment of high frequency electro-acupuncture significantly increased intestinal motility in rat which suppressed with loperamide. Conclusions : These results suggest that acupuncture and electro-acupuncture at $LR_3$ are effective on intestinal motility in rat.

This study was performed to review clinical research studies involving acupuncture treatment for primary headache disorders to provide a basic reference for future studies. Clinical studies of primary headache disorders treated with acupuncture were retrieved from 3 Korean electronic databases (NDSL, OASIS, and RISS). The studies were classified by year of publication, type of study, type of acupuncture, outlined acupoints, methods used for filiform needles, pharmacopuncture, auricular acupuncture, and thread-embedding acupuncture. Thirty-eight trials were reviewed, of which 33 used filiform needles, 6 pharmacopuncture, 1 auricular acupuncture, and 1used thread-embedding. Most of the studies reported that acupuncture treatment was effective in treating primary headache disorders. Some studies reported statistically significant effects, but the results overall were inconsistent. Therefore, there is insufficient evidence to support the treatment of acupuncture to resolve headaches. On the basis of these results, further studies should be performed to qualitatively and quantitatively determine the efficacy of acupuncture treatment for primary headache disorders.
