  • In a modern control field, a control engineer who has theoretical backgrounds with some practical knowledge is demanded. That is to say, an engineer who can understand and operate the various parts such as modeling, simulation, system analysis, signal processing, statistics, and hardware is required. In order to prove the theoretical backgrounds and operate various hardwares, a lot of experimental devices for students are designed in universities. Since the conventional experimental devices are manufactured abroad and the prices of the devices are too high, it is difficult to have. If a low cost experimental device can be developed, it will be very useful for a control engineering education. In Ibis paper, an experimental rig which has two control inputs and three sensor outputs to control the end point of a flexible beam is designed and manufactured. This rig can be used for a control field education.

공기압 구동장치를 이용한 정밀위치제어 (Accurate Positioning with a Pneumatic Driving Apparatus)

  • The accurate position control of pneumatic driving apparatus is considered in this paper. In pneumatically actuated positioning systems, accurate positioning as an electrical servo has been known to be difficult because of the friction force and compressibility of the air. For good control performance of the pneumatic system, an actuator mounted with externally pressurized air bearings is produced to compensate for friction force. For the controller design, the governing equation of the pneumatic driving apparatus is derived. In order to reduce the nonlinear characteristics of the control valve, linearized control input is derived from the relation between the effective area of the valve and the control input. The experimental results are presented to show the results of the improved position control of the pneumatic driving apparatus.

Dynamics and GA-Based Stable Control for a Class of Underactuated Mechanical Systems

  • The control of underactuated mechanical system is very complex for the loss of its control inputs. The model of underactuated mechanical systems in a potential field is built with Lagrangian method and its structural properties are analyzed in detail. A genetic algorithm (GA)based stable control approach is proposed for the class of under actuated mechanical systems. The Lyapunov stability theory and system properties are utilized to guarantee the system stability to its equilibrium. The real-valued GA is used to adjust the controller parameters to improve the system performance. This approach is applied to the underactuated double-pendulum-type overhead crane and the simulation results illustrate the complex system dynamics and the validity of the proposed control algorithm.

  • In this paper, the Integrated Guidance and Control (IGC) law is proposed for the Rotary Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (RUAV). The objective of the IGC law is to consider the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the RUAV and to design a guidance law which takes into consideration the nonlinear relationship between kinematics and dynamics. In order to control the RUAV system, sliding mode control scheme is adopted. As the RUAV is an under-actuated system, a slack variable approach is used to generate the available control inputs. Through the Lyapunov stability theorem, the stability of the proposed IGC law is proved. In order to verify the performance of the IGC law, numerical simulations are performed for waypoint tracking missions.

  • In this paper, a new control scheme for master-slave control of telerobot is proposed. The porposed method can be classified into unilater master-slave control methods in the aspect of the data flow. But the master arm in the proposed control scheme can deliver operator the similar kinesthetic sense as other bilateral force reflecting master arms do. The principle concept is that the sensed operator's force/torque is used as the reference input for a damping controller type of telerobot controller which track the operators efforts. Master arm and master controller can be implemented in a simple form, and it needs not be driven by actuators, but force sensing capability.

Nonlinear Nutation Control of Spacecraft Using Two Momentum Wheels

  • In this work, the nutation control of rigid spacecraft with only two momentum wheels is addressed by applying the feedback linearization technique. In this strategy, the primary performance index is to regulate the nutational angle by the momentum control of wheels. The spacecraft attitude equations of motion are transformed to a general linearized form by feedback linearization technique, including a guaranteed control law promising the internal dynamics stability to accomplish the nutation angle small. It is proven that the configuration of inertia properties plays a key role in analyzing spacecraft energy level. The behavior of the momentum wheels is also studied analytically and numerically. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear control law for the momentum transfer is verified by conducting numerical simulations.

Modeling and Multivariable Control of a Novel Multi-Dimensional Levitated Stage with High Precision

  • This paper presents the modeling and multivariable feedback control of a novel high-precision multi-dimensional positioning stage. This integrated 6-degree-of-freedom. (DOF) motion stage is levitated by three aerostatic bearings and actuated by 3 three-phase synchronous permanent-magnet planar motors (SPMPMs). It can generate all 6-DOF motions with only a single moving part. With the DQ decomposition theory, this positioning stage is modeled as a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) electromechanical system with six inputs (currents) and six outputs (displacements). To achieve high-precision positioning capability, discrete-time integrator-augmented linear-quadratic-regulator (LQR) and reduced-order linearquadratic-Gaussian (LQG) control methodologies are applied. Digital multivariable controllers are designed and implemented on the positioning system, and experimental results are also presented in this paper to demonstrate the stage's dynamic performance.

컨테이너 크레인의 흔들림 억제 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Sway Suppression Control of Container Cranes)

  • In this paper, we consider the sway suppression control problem for container cranes with load hoisting. The proposed control law improves the positioning accuracy but also the sway suppression through fast stabilization of the under-actuated sway dynamics, which is based on a class of feedback linearizing control incorporated with an additional control including the sway angle and its rate as well as positioning errors and their rates. For the design of the additional control, a variable structure control with the proper sway damping and simple switching action is employed, thus preventing excessive overshoots of the trolley travelljng and effectively suppressing the residual sway of container arrived at the target position. Simulation results are provided to show effectiveness of the proposed controller in the presence of such uncertainties as winds and the variation of payload weights.

쿼드콥터 제어 방법 고찰 (Review on the Control Methods of Quadcopters)

  • Recently, quadcopters have been popular as aerial drones. The structure of quadcopters is simpler than traditional helicopters and they are easy to construct and maneuver. Various hardware platforms for quadcopters have been developed. However, the controller design is not easy due to the requirement of 6-DOF flights using 4 rotors(control inputs)(under-actuated systems). In order to overcome the underactuation problem, various control methods - PID, LQR, $H_{\infty}$, SMC, backstepping control, and etc. - have been suggested for the control of quadcopters. In this paper, dynamic features and control methods of quadcopters are reviewed and evaluated. Future works are proposed for designing the advanced controllers of quadcopters.

영상검지기를 이용한 실시간 교통신호 감응제어 (A Development of a Real-time, Traffic Adaptive Control Scheme Through VIDs.)

  • The development and implementation of a real-time, traffic adaptive control scheme based on fuzzy logic through Video Image Detector systems (VIDs) is presented. Through VIDs based image processing, fuzzy logic can be used for a real-time traffic adaptive signal control scheme. Fuzzy control logic allows linguistic and inexact traffic data to be manipulated as a useful tool in designing signal timing plans. The fuzzy logic has the ability to comprehend linguistic instructions and to generate control strategy based on a priori verbal communication. The implementation of fuzzy logic controller for a traffic network is introduced. Comparisons are made between implementations of the fuzzy logic controller and the actuated controller in an isolated intersection. The results obtained from the application of the fuzzy logic controller are also compared with those corresponding to a pretimed controller for the coordinated intersections. Simulation results from the comparisons indicate the performance of the system is between under the fuzzy logic controller. Integration of the aforementioned schemes into and ATMS framework will lead to real-time adjustment of the traffic control signals, resulting in significant reduction in traffic congestion.
