Educators have found that the concept of randomness is often misunderstood by students. Chance recently pointed out that students should be introduced to the concept of randomness through the use of simulations. In this article, we studied various aspects of the probability distribution off linear random path in a circle and introduce some related simulations to guide student exploration and discovery. Consider a random line segment that crosses a circle with a certain radius. Perhaps it can be considered to be a path that an airplane shows up and flies into a random direction in a monitor. What is the expected amount of flying distance through the monitor, and the expected variation\ulcorner Are we monitoring what we see scientifically\ulcorner This article studies the probability distribution and some related aspects of a linear random path within a circular monitor. Some simulative activity is also introduced which can be used in a statistics or probability classes.
Muons and neutrons are representative secondary particles that are generated by interactions between primary cosmic ray particles (mostly protons) and the nuclei of atmospheric gas compounds. Previous studies reported that muons experience seasonal variations because of the meteorological effects of temperature. The intensity of neutrons has a typical modulation with various periods and reasons, such as diurnal and solar variation or transient events. This paper reports that cosmic ray particles, which were observed by neutron monitors, have seasonal variations using the daily data at the Oulu neutron monitor. To eliminate the effects of solar activity across time, the daily data were normalized by two different transformations: transformations with respect to the grand mean and yearly mean. The data after transformation with respect to the yearly mean showed more statistical stability and clear seasonal variations. On the other hand, it is difficult to determine if the seasonal variation results from terrestrial effects, such as meteorological factors, or extraterrestrial effects, such as the position of the Earth in its orbit of revolution.

Recently, due to rapid climate change, the population of honey bees has decreased, posing a great threat to the existence of the Earth's ecosystem. In particular, the colony collapse phenomenon in which bees disappeared nationwide in early 2022 had devastating consequences for beekeepers. In order to solve the problems of beekeeping due to climate change, it is urgent to develop a system that can monitor the situation inside the hive through various IoT sensors. This paper develops a system that can measure the activity of bees inside the hive and uses it to measure the number of times of entry and exit of the hive. The data measured by the developed system can be monitored in real time on a smartphone through the cloud server. The system developed in this paper can monitor the ecology of bees according to climate change and measure internal and external bee activities. Using this method, it is possible to check in advance for the colony collapse phenomenon in which bees disappeared in early 2022. This is very meaningful in that it presents an alternative that can identify the cause of the problem through early detection.

Maintaining a proper lookout activity routine is integral to preventing ship collision accidents caused by human errors. Various subjective measures such as interviewing, self-report diaries, and questionnaires have been widely used to monitor the lookout activity patterns of navigators. An objective measurement of a lookout activity pattern classification system is required to improve lookout performance evaluation in a real navigation setting. The purpose of this study was to develop an objective navigator lookout activity classification system using wearable accelerometers. In the training session, 90.4% accuracy was achieved in classifying five fundamental lookout activities. The developed model was then applied to predict real-lookout activity in the second session during an actual ship voyage. 86.9% agreement was attained between the directly observed activity and predicted activity. Based on these promising results, the proposed unobstructed wearable system is expected to objectively evaluate navigator lookout patterns to provide a better understanding of lookout performance.
In the present study we used a diagrammatic analysis of 6 sigma quality control and Taguchi method for injection molding of monitor back-cover, evaluated the influence on the cycle time with part design, mold design, molding process and standardization activity involving design and molding, adopted analysis of sensitivity and effective factors of the part design and molding process conditions for productivity, identified main design molding factors. The contributing factors for the final cycle time could be enumerated as follows; the thickness of hot spot, main nominal part thickness, coolant inlet temperature, melt temperature and cooling line layout, etc.. As a first step, all the critical factors of design process applied to the current monitor housing were investigated through 6 sigma process. Thereafter, the optimal and better critical factors found in the first step were applied to new product design to prove that our process was correct. The Moldflow was used for injection molding simulation, and Minitab software for the statistical analysis, respectively. Finally, the productivity of new design was increased about 33 percents for our specific case.

Practical devices for measuring personal exposure to nitrogen dioxide(NO$_2$) have been made for epidemiological studies of the health effects of air pollution Standard methods for NO$_2$ measurement such as the chemiluminescent method and Saltzman method are not suitable for personal exposure because they are heavy, large and complicated to operate. In this study, a passive monitor was tested for the measurements of indoor and outdoor NO$_2$ level. Through a comparative analysis of data sets obtained by on-site chemiluminescence system, we assessed the accuracy and precision of NO$_2$ passive monitors. We also examined the possibility of passive monitor in the study of indoor, outdoor and personal NO$_2$ exposure. The accuracy and precision of NO$_2$ passive monitor were analyzed assuming measurements of on-site chemiluminescence system is reference value and using duplicated measure- ments, respectively. From these analysis the NO$_2$ passive monitor was useful for measuring indoor, outdoor and personal exposure. And NO$_2$ level from on-site chemiluminescence systems could not properly represent the personal NO$_2$ exposure as well as indoor and outdoor level of ones house. Personal exposures were correlated more strongly with indoor NO$_2$ concentrations than with outdoor NO$_2$ concentrations. Since activity pattern of each person is different, it was considered that personal daily behavior and life-style might prevent the air pollutant exposure.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine how gaze angle affects muscle activity and kinematic variables during treadmill walking and to offer scientific information for effective and safe treadmill training environment. Method: Ten male subjects who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited. Eight pairs of surface electrodes were attached to the right side of the body to monitor the upper trapezius (UT), rectus abdominis (RA), erector spinae (ES), rectus femoris (RF), bicep femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA), medialis gastrocnemius (MG), and lateral gastrocnemius (LG). Two digital camcorders were used to obtain 3-D kinematics of the lower extremity. Each subject walked on a treadmill with a TV monitor at three different heights (eye level; EL, 20% above eye level; AE, 20% below eye level; BE) at speed of 5.0 km/h. For each trial being analyzed, five critical instants and four phases were identified from the video recording. For each dependent variable, one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used to determine whether there were significant differences among three different conditions (p<.05). When a significant difference was found, post hoc analyses were performed using the contrast procedure. Results: This study found that average and peak IEMG values for EL were generally smaller than the corresponding values for AE and BE but the differences were not statically significant. There were also no significant changes in kinematic variables among three different gaze angles. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, gaze angle does not affect muscle activity and kinematic variables during treadmill walking. However, it is interesting to note that walking with BE may increase the muscle activity of the trapezius and the lower extremity. Moreover, it may hinder proper dorsiflexion during landing phase. Thus, it seems to reasonable to suggest that inappropriate gaze angle should be avoided in treadmill walking. It is obvious that increased walking speed may cause a significant changes in biomechanical parameters used in this study. It is recommended that future studies be conducted which are similar to the present investigation but using different walking speed.
The real-time monitoring about the activity of the human provides useful information about the activity quantity and ability. The present study implemented a small-size and low-power acceleration monitoring system for convenient monitoring of activity quantity and recognition of emergent situations such as falling during daily life. For the wireless transmission of acceleration sensor signal, we developed a wireless transmission system based on a wireless sensor network. In addition, we developed a program for storing and monitoring wirelessly transmitted signals on PC in real-time. The performance of the implemented system was evaluated by assessing the output characteristic of the system according to the change of posture, and parameters and acontext recognition algorithm were developed in order to monitor activity volume during daily life and to recognize emergent situations such as falling. In particular, recognition error in the sudden change of acceleration was minimized by the application of a falling correction algorithm
