This paper presents a fuzzy-motion-control based tracking algorithm of mobile robots, which uses the geometrical information derived from the active stereo-vision system mounted on the mobile robot. The active stereo-vision system consists of two color cameras that rotates in two angular dimensions. With the stereo-vision system, the center position and depth information of the target object can be calculated. The proposed fuzzy motion controller is used to calculate the tracking velocity and angular position of the mobile robot, which makes the mobile robot keep following the object with a constant distance and orientation.

The vision-based driver fatigue detection is one of the most prospective commercial applications of facial expression recognition technology. The facial feature tracking is the primary technique issue in it. Current facial tracking technology faces three challenges: (1) detection failure of some or all of features due to a variety of lighting conditions and head motions; (2) multiple and non-rigid object tracking; and (3) features occlusion when the head is in oblique angles. In this paper, we propose a new active approach. First, the active IR sensor is used to robustly detect pupils under variable lighting conditions. The detected pupils are then used to predict the head motion. Furthermore, face movement is assumed to be locally smooth so that a facial feature can be tracked with a Kalman filter. The simultaneous use of the pupil constraint and the Kalman filtering greatly increases the prediction accuracy for each feature position. Feature detection is accomplished in the Gabor space with respect to the vicinity of predicted location. Local graphs consisting of identified features are extracted and used to capture the spatial relationship among detected features. Finally, a graph-based reliability propagation is proposed to tackle the occlusion problem and verify the tracking results. The experimental results show validity of our active approach to real-life facial tracking under variable lighting conditions, head orientations, and facial expressions.

Motion tracking and object segmentation are the most fundamental and critical problems in vision tasks such as motion analysis. An active contour model, snake, was developed as a useful segmenting and tracking tool for rigid or non-rigid objects. In this paper, the development of new snake model called 'adaptive color snake model (ACSM)' for segmentation and tracking is introduced. The simple operation makes the algorithm runs in real-time. For robust tracking, the condensation algorithm was adopted to control the parameters of ACSM. The effectiveness of the ACSM is verified by appropriate simulations and experiments.
An adaptive active contour algorithm which shows stable object tracking performance under the moving or deformable environments, is proposed. In order to cope with local deformation of the object, an energy map is generated from the difference of the consecutive images and a new energy function based on the energy map is presented. The algorithm is evaluated on a set of artificial and real images to verify the efficiencies and test results show the stable tracking performance for the moving objects.

Object tracking, in general, is a challenging problem. Difficulties in tracking objects can arise due to abrupt object motion, changing appearance patterns of both the object and the scene, non-rigid object structures, object-to-object and object-to-scene occlusions, and camera motion. Tracking is usually performed in the context of higher-level applications that require the location or the shape of the object in every frame. This paper describes an object tracking system based on active vision with two cameras, into algorithm of single camera tracking system an object active visual tracking and object locked system based on Extend Kalman Filter (EKF) is introduced, by analyzing data from which the next running state of the object can be figured out and after the tracking is performed at each of the cameras, the individual tracks are to be fused (combined) to obtain the final system object track.

In our daily life, the need of energy increases day by day. However, the amount of natural resources on the earth is limited and thus gaining renewable energy as an energy resource is one of the important and urgent problems. Solar energy is one of the most popular available energy sources that can be converted into electricity by using solar panels. In order for solar panels to produce maximal output power, the incident angle of the sunlight needs to be persistently perpendicular to the solar panel. By the way, most of the solar panels are installed at fixed position and direction. Therefore, as the sun's position changes, it is impossible to produce maximal output power inevitably. To improve this problem, in this paper, a sun tracking system using two degree-of-freedom (DOF) active sensor array is proposed so that the solar panel may always direct sunlight perpendicularly. And also a series of software, such as a search mode and a holding mode, which can control the developed sun tracking system is developed. Several experiments using the implemented sun tracking system are executed and the effectiveness of the system is verified from the experimental results.

We propose a novel collision-avoidance algorithm for the active type RFID regarding an indoor tracking system. Several well-known collision avoidance algorithms are analyzed considering the adequacy for the indoor tracking system. We prove the superiority of the slotted ALOHA in comparison with CSMA for short and fixed length packets like an ID message in RFID. Observed results show that they are not applicable for active type RFID in terms of energy efficiency. Putting these all together, we propose a dedicated collision avoidance algorithm considering the unique features of the indoor tracking system. The proposed method includes a scheduled tag access period (STAP) as well as a random tag access period (RTAP) to address both of the static and dynamic characteristics of the system. The system parameters are determined through a quantitative analysis of the throughput and energy efficiency. Especially, some mathematical techniques have been deployed to obtain the optimal slot count for RTAP. Finally, simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed method with variations of the parameters.
Target Motion Analysis(TMA) for Passive Sonar Systems with bearing-only measurements needs to enhance system observability to improve target tracking performance by ownship maneuvering. However, tracking problem incurred by weak observaility result in slow convergence of the target estimates. On the other hand, active sonar systems do not have problem associated with system observaility. However, it drawback related to system survivability. In this paper, the algorithm that could be used in Active/passive Mixed-Mode Sonar Systems is proposed to analyze maneuvering target motion and to improve TMA performance. The proposed TMA algorithm is tested by a series of computer simulation runs and the results ...
Visual tracking technique is one of the essential things which are very important in the major fields of modern society. While contour tracking is especially necessary technique in the aspect of its fast performance with target's external contour information, it sometimes fails to track target motion because it is affected by the surrounding edges around target and weak egdes on the target boundary. To overcome these weak points, in this research it is suggested that PDMs can be obtained by generating the virtual 6-DOF motions of the mobile robot with a CCD camera and the image tracking system which is robust to the local minima around the target can be configured by constructing Active Shape Model in modular base. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, the experiment is performed on the image stream obtained by a real mobile robot and the better performance is confirmed by comparing the experimental results with the ones of other major tracking techniques.
