Factors Analysis Affecting Success of RFID Implementation (RFID 실행의 성공에 미치는 영향요인 분석)

  • RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is regarded as one of the greatest contributing 10 technologies of the 21st century, and is a promising technology available to all industries. Each country has tried to develop RFID technology and foster its industry, and Korea has also chosen it as one of new growth engine industries with active support policies. This study was presenting implications necessary to stimulate and expedite RFID demand by analyzing the factors affecting the success of RFID implementation. In order to achieve this purpose, we categorized the factors affecting successful RFID implementation into user factors, technical factors, organizational factors, and external factors, and probed them in the previous literatures. Based on this, conceptual research model and hypothesis were set. Data collection was performed through companies adopting and running RFID, and research model and hypothesis were tested with structural equation model analysis. Finally, implications necessary to stimulate RFID demand and foster its industry were presented founded on the result of empirical analysis.

  • 무선방식으로 원격에서의 인식으로 정보교환을 가능하게 하는 RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) 시스템은 태그 내의 배터리 유무에 따라 수동형과 능동형으로 구분된다. 수동형 태그는 판독기로부터 받은 RF 신호를 에너지로 이용하기 때문에 인식거리가 짧으며, 가격이 싸고 반영구적으로 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 반면에, 능동형 태그는 금속재질에 취약한 수동형의 단점을 극복하는 동시에 인식거리가 길고, 인식률이 좋은 장점이 있다. 따라서 항만물류나 국방 분야에서 능동형 RFID 시스템에 대한 개발이 점차 확대되고 있다. 하지만 동일한 표준으로 개발된 제품의 서로 간에 인식이 불가능한 사례가 보고되고 있으며, 국제적으로 정확한 평가방법 및 장치가 정립되지 않아 개발된 제품들 간의 상호 운용성 및 표준 적합성 평가에 대한 어려움이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 능동형 RFID 시스템의 적합성 평가를 위한 에뮬레이터의 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어를 설계하고 제작하였다. 설계된 장치는 Matlab의 Simulink를 통한 시뮬레이션으로 성능을 분석하였고, 실제 능동형 RFID 태그의 표준적합성 평가를 통해 에뮬레이터의 적용 가능성을 검증하였다.

  • Recently, more and more hospitals have become interested in the innovation of healthcare services and processes through IT convergence based on RFID, NFC, smart devices and so on. This paper presents a case of process innovation by implementing a smart health checkup system using these advanced information technologies. The existing inefficient health checkup process based on the paper chart and manual work has been innovated using the advanced information and communication technologies. The newly developed smart health checkup system has been used successfully in a tertiary university hospital named Samsung Medical Center since April 2013. The contributions of the system include improvement of service quality, enhancement of customer satisfaction, reduction in workload of staffs, improvement of work accuracy, and accordingly reinforcement of the competitiveness of the hospital.

  • Negligent accidents are often caused by risk factors of working environment at most construction sites and construction schedules are delayed as the workers' work location and construction progress are not figured out accurately, and this leads to a lot of loss. In this paper, with the object of solving the problems at construction sites, RFID portable device, active tag and wireless RFID reader to provide the status of workers which is based on location are designed in order to send information about the location of workers and work progress in real time to a personal RFID device. Also an application system to monitor workers' approaching to prevent accidents from vehicles and danger zones and to manage the real time location of workers is designed.

Simplified Tag Identification Algorithm by Modifying Tag Collection Command in Active RFID System

  • In this paper, we propose a simplified tag collection algorithm to improve the performance of ISO / IEC 18000-7, the standard of active RFID systems. In the proposed algorithm, the collection command is modified to include the result of the listening period response from the previous round. The tag, which has received the collection command, checks whether the slot to which it has responded is collided, transmits additional data to its data slot without a point-to-point read command and sleep command, and transitions to the sleep mode. The collection round in the standard consists of a series of collection commands, collection responses, read commands, read responses, and sleep commands. On the other hand, in the proposed tag collection algorithm, one collection round consists only of a collection command and a collection response. As a result of performance analysis, it can be seen that the proposed technique shows superior performance compared to the standard.

  • RFID 시스템에서 태그는 리더와 전자기 에너지 교환에 의해 동작을 하며 배터리를 사용하는 active 형 태그와 배터리를 사용하지 않는 passive형 태그로 크게 구분된다. 또한 태그는 자체 회로구조에 의해 harmonic 태그, anharmonic 태그, sequenced amplifier 태그로 나뉜다. Passive 태그에서는 리더의 반송파 backscatter 방식을 이용하여 동작을 하며 active 태그는 자체 발진회로에 의해 태그정보를 송신한다. 태그의 변조방식으로 PSK, FSK, ASK 등을 사용하며 변조방법에 따라 회로 구성과 프로토콜 설계가 달라진다. 또한 리더의 전파 신호를 정류하기 위하여 렉테나(rectenna)가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 태그의 분류, 동작, 구조 등에 관한 일반적인 내용을 기술하였다. 특히 UHF 대역 이상의 태그 기술 최근 추세가 안테나 부분을 제외하고 CMOS one chip화 하는 수준으로서 900 MHz UHF 대역, 2.45 GHz RFID 칩이 상용화 되어 있다. 칩의 내부구조와 태그의 변조방식에 의거한 동작에 관한 개괄적인 내용을 서술하였다.

Design of a LNA-Mixer with on-chip balun for 2.45GHz RFID Applications (On-chip 발룬을 포함한 2.45GHz대역 RFID용 LNA-Mixer설계)

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of LNA-Mixer for 2.45GHz RFID reader. The LNA is implemented by PCSNIM method for low power consumption. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. The connection between the two designed circuits is made by active balun. This LNA-Mixer has about 22dB gain and 8.5dB Noise Figure for -50dBm input RF power, LO power is 0dBm, RF frequency is 2.45 GHz and IF frequency is 100kHz. The layout of LNA-Mixer for one-chip design in a 0.18-um TSMC process has $2.5mm{\times}1.0mm$ size.

Hash Function-based Secure Authentication Protocol for Improving Efficiency in RFID System (효율성을 고려한 해시 함수 기반의 안전한 RFID 인증 프로토콜)

  • Many RFID authentication protocols have been proposed to build a secure ubiquitous environment. However, existing protocols do not respond recent attacks appropriately and they perform many hash operations to authenticate a large number of tags. In this paper, we propose a hash function-based secure authentication protocol for improving efficiency in RFID system. The proposed protocol is safe to passive attacks and active attacks, and requires only 2 hash operations in a tag and 3 hash operations in a database. Accordingly, the proposed protocol is very effective in RFID system environment which is composed to low-cost tags and a database handling many tags.

  • 액티브 RFID를 기반으로 실시간 위치정보 서비스를 구현하는 모델인 RTLS는 보안, 의료, 건설, 항공, 항만, 운송, 국방, 교통, 레저 등 실시간 위치정보가 필요한 분야에 효과적으로 활용되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 RTLS 응용 시스템을 위한 지능형 위치정보 관리시스템을 제안한다. 제안 시스템은 일반적인 데이터 관리의 기능 이외에도 상황인식 시스템에서 사용되는 규칙기반 미들웨어 Jess(Java expert system shell)를 활용하는 구조를 가진다. 규칙을 이용한 추론 기능을 도입함으로써 응용 시스템의 정확성을 높일 수 있는 특징을 가진다.

Position Estimation of Mobile Robots using Multiple Active Sensors with Network

  • Recently, with the development of service robots and the concept of ubiquitous, the position estimation of mobile objects has received great interest. Some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the relative location of the moving objects subjected to accumulated errors. To implement a real time localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed. Design and implementation of the localization system comes from the usage of active beacon systems (based upon RFID technology). The active beacon system is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter. The RFID receiver gets the synchronization signal from the mobile robot and the ultra-sonic transmitter sends out the traveling signal to be used for measuring the distance. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. In some case, the mobile robot can acquire the ultrasonic signals from only one or two beacons, due to the obstacles located along the moving path. In this paper, a position estimation scheme using fewer than three sensors is developed. Also, the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied for the improvement of position estimation accuracy of the mobile robot.
