A Study on the dyeing of wool felt using cochineal and mordants - change of color and image analysis of dyed felt -

  • Felt fabric is one of the nonwovens characterized by the entanglement of the constituent fibers, resulting from the application of heat, moisture, and mechanical action to a fibrous web. This method has been applied to the wool fibers for long. As a natural dyestuff, cochineal dyestuff was employed for dyeing felt specimens. The color of the dyed felt was measured using a colorimeter. Along with this, an attempt was made in order to evaluate the variance of the color of the felted specimens having irregular orientation of wool fibers.

  • It is recognized a very important task to cultivate the vocational ethics consciousness as well as technical education in Dental technical department which intend to foster leading technicians. Based on that point, we analyzed the actual conditions and the problems for the education of vocational ethics, as a try to search for a new orientation for the education of vocational ethics, which should be compatible with the realization of the theory of our national education chart, and its methods are presented centering on following items. a) Balance and harmony b) Unification of knowledge and action c) Self-realization d) Puritying aesthetic sentiments.

인간의 자세조절 메커니즘에 대한 연구 (A Review on the Mechanism of Human Postural Control)

  • Stance is defined as any state in which the total mass of the body is supported by the feet. In order to maintain stance, the sum of gravito-inertial forces acting on the body must be registered by equal and opposite forces at the region of contact between the organism and the support surface. Balance is controlled by applying forces to the surface of support so as to maintain the body's center of mass vertically above the feet. for a muIti-segment organism, there can be a variety of ways in which balance can be controlled, since movements of different body segments can have similar effects on the control of balance. In general, the organism tends to have a body configuration that is aligned with gravito-inertial force when there are no external forces acting on it. If any segments of the body are not aligned with gravito-inertial force vector, a torque on that segment would tend to move the body's center of mass. The maintenance of postural stability is accomplished in humans by a complex neural control system. This requires organizing integrating and acting upon visual, vestibular, and somatosensory input, providing orientation information to the postural control system. The information necessary to control and coordinate movement is provided by the visual sense of eye position with respect to the surrounding surface layout, the vestibular sense of head orientation in the gravito-inertial space, and the somatic sense of body segment position relative to one another and to the support surface. In this study, perception and action capability was examined from various points of view. The underlying assumption of the study was that the change of postural configuration could be effected by organism, environment and task goal.

라이프스타일 유형에 따른 대학생의 환경의식이 친환경제품의 구매의도에 미치는 영향 (An Effect of the Eco-friendly Consciousness of the Undergraduate by the Lifestyle on the Purchase Intention of the Eco-friendly Products)

  • 본 연구는 대학생들의 라이프스타일 유형을 분류하여 그 유형별로 환경의식에는 어떠한 차이가 있으며, 환경의식은 친환경제품의 구매의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 분석하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 라이프스타일 유형 중 건강지향형은 환경실천과 환경보호의 모두에서 유의한 수준으로 나타나 가설이 채택되었다. 그러나 자기추구형과 적극활동형의 유형은 모두 유의하지 않은 값으로 기각되었다. 둘째, 환경보호가 높은 집단이 친환경제품 구매의도에 있어서 유의한 수준으로 가설이 채택되었다. 따라서 건강지향형의 라이프스타일을 지닌 대학생들이 환경에 대한 의식이 높았으며, 환경보호의식이 높은 집단에서 친환경제품에 대한 구매의도가 높다는 사실을 알 수 있다.

테러방지법 필리버스터에 대한 언론의 보도태도 비교 분석 (An Analysis of News Coverage on the Filibuster for the Anti-Terrorism Act)

  • 본 연구는 지난 2016년 2월 국회에서 '국민보호와 공공안전을 위한 테러방지법안' 통과를 저지하기 위해 야당이 진행했던 필리버스터 관련 보도 과정에서 진보와 보수 성향 언론사들이 어떤 보도 프레임과 정보원을 주로 활용했는지, 그리고 어떤 키워드와 주제를 활용해 관련기사를 작성하는지에 대해 비교 분석하였다. 신문사의 이데올로기적 지향점이 보도에 미치는 영향을 비교 분석하기 위해 본 연구는 진보성향 신문사인 <한겨레신문>, <경향신문>, <오마이뉴스>와 보수성향 신문사인 <조선일보>, <동아일보>, <중앙일보>를 연구대상으로 선정했다. 연구결과, 보도 프레임에서 진보와 보수언론사 간에 가장 뚜렷한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났는데, 보수언론은 필리버스터를 부정적인 정치행위라고 강조해 보도한 반면, 진보언론은 필리버스터를 긍정적인 정치행위라고 보도해 명확한 차이를 보였다. 보도기사에서 활용한 키워드 역시 보수언론은 '방해'라는 키워드를 많이 사용한 반면, 진보언론은 '독소조항'이라는 키워드를 많이 언급한 것으로 나타났다. 결국, 이 연구를 통해 언론사들이 정치적인 사안을 보도할 때 자사가 가지고 있는 정치적 성향에 의해 영향을 받는다는 사실이 증명되었다.

Controlling a lamprey-based robot with an electronic nervous system

  • We are developing a biomimetic robot based on the Sea Lamprey. The robot consists of a cylindrical electronics bay propelled by an undulatory body axis. Shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators generate propagating flexion waves in five undulatory segments of a polyurethane strip. The behavior of the robot is controlled by an electronic nervous system (ENS) composed of networks of discrete-time map-based neurons and synapses that execute on a digital signal processing chip. Motor neuron action potentials gate power transistors that apply current to the SMA actuators. The ENS consists of a set of segmental central pattern generators (CPGs), modulated by layered command and coordinating neuron networks, that integrate input from exteroceptive sensors including a compass, accelerometers, inclinometers and a short baseline sonar array (SBA). The CPGs instantiate the 3-element hemi-segmental network model established from physiological studies. Anterior and posterior propagating pathways between CPGs mediate intersegmental coordination to generate flexion waves for forward and backward swimming. The command network mediates layered exteroceptive reflexes for homing, primary orientation, and impediment compensation. The SBA allows homing on a sonar beacon by indicating deviations in azimuth and inclination. Inclinometers actuate a bending segment between the hull and undulator to allow climb and dive. Accelerometers can distinguish collisions from impediment to allow compensatory reflexes. Modulatory commands mediate speed control and turning. A SBA communications interface is being developed to allow supervised reactive autonomy.

Damage detection for a beam under transient excitation via three different algorithms

  • Structural health monitoring has increasingly been a focus within the civil engineering research community over the last few decades. With increasing application of sensor networks in large structures and infrastructure systems, effective use and development of robust algorithms to analyze large volumes of data and to extract the desired features has become a challenging problem. In this paper, we grasp some precautions and key points of the signal processing approach, wavelet, establish a relative reliable framework, and analyze three problems that require attention when applying wavelet based damage detection approach. The cases studies how to use optimal scales for extracting mode shapes and modal curvatures in a reinforced concrete beam and how to effectively identify damages using maximum curves of wavelet coefficient differences. Moreover, how to make a recognition based on the wavelet multi-resolution analysis, wavelet packet energy, and fuzzy sets is a meaningful topic that has been addressed in this work. The relative systematic work that compasses algorithms, structures and evaluation paves a way to a framework regarding effective structural health monitoring, orientation, decision and action.

Self-Care in Elders with Dementia: A Concept Analysis

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of self-care in elders with dementia through a review of nursing literature and to provide more understanding of the definition and perspectives of the concept of self-care notion in elders with dementia. Methods: The technique developed by Walker and Avant was used as a guide in analyzing the concept of self-care. Results: Attributes of self-care in dementia may include a single or group of actions needed for sustaining life, a personal effort to maintain functional independence while minimizing other's assistance, an outcome behavior from the person's interaction with inter-personal and/or contextual environment, and a functional ability that may decline in parallel to cognitive impairment. Antecedents of self-care in dementia may include at least presence of a certain degree of cognitive appraisal for the self-care needs, self-willingness for the self-care action, spatial and visual orientation, cultural pre-conception of the self-care behavior, presence of environmental context/equipment available for self-care, and sufficient time available. The consequences may include sustaining of life, feel of satisfaction, achieving independence, extended life expectancy, increased self-confidence, decreased caregiver distress and/or burden, savings in health care costs. Discussion: Defining attributes and antecedents and consequences of self-care in dementia identified in this study provided empirical ground of a middle-range theory of self-care for a clinical population with dementia and generated possible hypotheses to be tested in future studies.

건강증진을 위한 지역사회 기반 참여연구의 적용 방안 (Using Community-Based Participatory Research(CBPR) for Health Promotion)

  • Community-Based Participatory Research(CBPR) has gained attention as a public health approach to develop community health interventions to address health disparities in recognition of the community relevance of specific health issues associated with social determinants of health. It emphasizes community involvement in equal partnership with researchers and public health professionals to address community-identified needs. The characteristics and principles of CBPR discussed in this paper highlight participatory nature, capacity development, partnership building, and process-orientation of CBPR. A 6-step process model for community empowerment is then introduced as a CBPR operationalization strategy. Mixed methods research approaches are valuable in CBPR as well as process evaluation. For the application of CBPR in Korean contexts, the Diffusion of Innovation theory is suggested as a theoretical framework for implementation. Building public health partnerships between public and private sectors to create partnership synergy is a necessary condition for successful CBPR for health promotion in Korea. Accompanying critical factors for the CBPR application include: common understanding of CBPR and its values, establishment of the definition of 'community,' 'community-based' and 'participation' in community health, development of accommodating research infrastructure for CBPR, recognition of the importance of program evaluation (particularly process evaluation), and training CBPR specialists.

자율적이고 지능적인 리소스 모델에 기반한 프랙탈 생산시스템 (Fractal Manufacturing System (FrMS) based on Autonomous and Intelligent Resource Model (AIR-model))

  • Autonomous and intelligent resource model (AIR-model) defines a building-block of complex systems to pursue value creation by means of diverse resources, referred to as an AIR-unit, and presents a collaboration model with the AIR-units. An AIR-unit represents a piece of resources, such as machines, labor, raw materials, and other assets, considered individually by a complex system as means to accomplish given tasks. It is defined with its own service capability and a goal, and pursues achieving the goal by means of the capability. Moreover, an Air-unit is equipped with autonomy and intelligence, whereby it makes a decision on its course of action on its own initiative. Air-units collaborate on system operations with each other through goal-oriented negotiations. In this research, distinctive features of the AIR-model are addressed and described in detail. Principal components of the AIR-model are also designed via object-oriented modeling techniques. A prototype system based on the AIR-model is finally presented as an embodiment tool of a fractal manufacturing system (FrMS).
