Bistatic Scattering from a Hemi-Spherically Capped Cylinder

  • The bistatic scattering of an incident wave by a hemi-spherically capped cylinder is of particular interest because it has rarely been studied until the present day. The configuration of a hemi-spherically capped cylinder is similar to naval underwater weapons (submarines, mines, torpedos, etc.), but which is not exactly the same. This paper describes a novel laboratory experiment aimed at direct measurement of bistatic scattering by a hemi-spherically capped cylinder. Bistatic scattering by a hemi-spherically capped cylinder was measured in an acoustic water tank (5m long, 5m wide, 5m deep) using a high frequency projector (120kHz) and hydrophone. Measurements of monostatic scattering were also made under the same conditions. The bistatic scattering pattern by a hemi-spherically capped cylinder was measured against the incident angles $(0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;90^{\circ})$ in order to verify various scattering pattern characteristics by the change of incident angle. The results indicate that the bistatic scattering TS at a wide scattering angle is much stronger than the mono static scattering TS. In bistatic scattering, the forward scattering TS is significantly stronger than the backward scattering TS, and the forward scattering pattern is also broader. In case of seven incident angles, the maximum value of forward scattering TS is about 14dB stronger than that of backward scattering TS. It is also found that forward scattering varies with the incident angle of sound to a much less extent than backscattering, and it is not seriously affected by the incident angle. These features could be the advantages of using forward scattering for detecting underwater targets at long range and increasing detection area and probability.

메쉬 스크린을 이용한 초음속 제트소음 저감법에 관한 실험적 연구 (Study on Supersonic Jet Noise Reduction Using a Mesh Screen)

  • 본 논문에서는 노즐출구 단면에 설치된 메쉬 스크린을 이용하여 초음속 제트 소음 제어하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 메쉬 스크린은 미소 직경을 가진 스테인레스 철사들로 만들어졌으며 철망 형태이다. 노즐 압력비는 과팽창에서 부족팽창된 초음속 제트를 얻기 위해 다양하게 변화시켰다. 초기 제트 전단층을 교란하기 위해, 메쉬 스크린의 중앙 부분에 구멍을 만들었으며 그 구멍크기는 메쉬 스크린의 소음 저감효과를 조사하기 위해 변화시켰다. 유동장을 가시화하기 위해 쉴리렌 광학 장치를 사용하였고 OASPL과 소음 스펙트럼을 얻기 위해 음향을 측정하였다. 본 실험으로부터 얻어진 결과는 메쉬 스크린이 스크리치 톤을 상당히 억제하였으며, 메쉬 스크린의 구멍크기는 초음속 제트 소음을 저감하는 중요한 인자였다. 과팽창된 제트인 경우, 소음 저감효과는 적정팽창과 부족팽창된 제트에서의 저감효과보다 매우 크게 나타났다.

ADCP 자료의 공간평균을 이용한 평균유속장 산정에 대한 검증 (Validation of Assessment for Mean Flow Field Using Spatial Averaging of Instantaneous ADCP Velocity Measurements)

  • While the assessment of mean flow field is very important to characterize the hydrodynamic aspect of the flow regime in river, the conventional methodologies have required very time-consuming efforts and cost to obtain the mean flow field. The paper provides an efficient technique to quickly assess mean flow field by developing and applying spatial averaging method utilizing repeatedly surveyed acoustic Doppler current profiler(ADCP)'s cross-sectional measurements. ADCP has been widely used in measuring the detailed velocity and discharge in the last two decades. In order to validate the proposed spatial averaging method, the averaged velocity filed using the spatial averaging was compared with the bench-mark data computed by the time-averaging of the consistent fix-point ADCP measurement, which has been known as a valid but a bit inefficient way to obtain mean velocity field. The comparison showed a good agreement between two methods, which indicates that the spatial averaging method is able to be used as a surrogate way to assess the mean flow field. Bed shear stress distribution, which is a derived hydrodynamic quantity from the mean velocity field, was additionally computed by using both spatial and time-averaging methods, and they were compared each other so as to validate the spatial averaging method. This comparison also gave a good agreement. Therefore, such comparisons proved the validity of the spatial averaging to quickly assess mean flow field. The mean velocity field and its derived riverine quantities can be actively used for characterizing the flow dynamics as well as potentially applicable for validating numerical simulations.

다차원 해석법을 이용한 자동차 공조시스템의 기여도분석 (Coherent Analysis of vehicle HVAC Using the MDSA Method)

  • To verify applicability of multi-dimensional spectral analysis (MDSA) fur noise source identification two different approaches which are frequency response and coherent function have been investigated. The coherence function approach appears able to separate the correlated system when the noise sources were coherent. In this study, we identify contribution of structure-borne-noise of vehicle HVAC system using MDSA method. Firstly, to identify the applicability of MDSA method, 4-inputs of vehicle HVAC system were the signals measured by accelerometers attached on the selected noise sources which were composed of blower, evaporator, heater and duct. While 1-output which was driver's position sound was the SPL signals measured by a remote microphone, when the blower motor was operating. We identify efficiency of systems modeled with four Inputs/single output through ordinary coherence function (OCF) and partial coherence function (PCF). As a result of experiment, the blower accounted for $62-88\%$ of the overall level of sound energy density. Also, according to the analysis of acoustic signal and vibration signals measurement, an investigation of the noise source identification in the vehicle HVAC is presented. With the sound intensity method, the major sources of the vehicle HVAC radiation are verified. Also the method of improving the noise reduction is proposed by attaching damping patch access to blower motor and noise reduction is verified.

  • 대한해협 수송량의 시간변동성을 추정하기 위해 폐기된 대한해협 해저통신케이블을 사용한 해저케이블 전압측정이 1998년 3월이래 진행되어 왔다. 해저케이블 측정 전압은 이 해협에 설치된 바닥계류형 ADCP 유속자료에서 계산한 수송량과 큰 선형 상관관계를 보였다. 이 논문에서는 국내 해저케이블 전압측정 연구를 간략히 정리하였다. 대한해협 해저케이블 전압측정 사례를 중심으로 해저케이블 전압측정 방법, 현재까지의 주요 관측 결과들을 소개하고, 향후 한반도 주변의 해저케이블 전압측정 연구 전망을 언급하였다.

Structural health monitoring of high-speed railway tracks using diffuse ultrasonic wave-based condition contrast: theory and validation

  • Despite proven effectiveness and accuracy in laboratories, the existing damage assessment based on guided ultrasonic waves (GUWs) or acoustic emission (AE) confronts challenges when extended to real-world structural health monitoring (SHM) for railway tracks. Central to the concerns are the extremely complex signal appearance due to highly dispersive and multimodal wave features, restriction on transducer installations, and severe contaminations of ambient noise. It remains a critical yet unsolved problem along with recent attempts to implement SHM in bourgeoning high-speed railway (HSR). By leveraging authors' continued endeavours, an SHM framework, based on actively generated diffuse ultrasonic waves (DUWs) and a benchmark-free condition contrast algorithm, has been developed and deployed via an all-in-one SHM system. Miniaturized lead zirconate titanate (PZT) wafers are utilized to generate and acquire DUWs in long-range railway tracks. Fatigue cracks in the tracks show unique contact behaviours under different conditions of external loads and further disturb DUW propagation. By contrast DUW propagation traits, fatigue cracks in railway tracks can be characterised quantitatively and the holistic health status of the tracks can be evaluated in a real-time manner. Compared with GUW- or AE-based methods, the DUW-driven inspection philosophy exhibits immunity to ambient noise and measurement uncertainty, less dependence on baseline signals, use of significantly reduced number of transducers, and high robustness in atrocious engineering conditions. Conformance tests are performed on HSR tracks, in which the evolution of fatigue damage is monitored continuously and quantitatively, demonstrating effectiveness, adaptability, reliability and robustness of DUW-driven SHM towards HSR applications.

  • Fragmentation 시험법과 전기저항 측정을 통하여 탄소 및 SiC 섬유강화 에폭시 복합재료의 계면물성과 섬유파단에 대한 전기적 감지능을 연구하였다. 섬유 함침 각이 증가함에 따라서 계면전단강도는 감소하였고, 섬유파단에 의한 전기저항도 값이 무한대로 증가하는 시간은 길어졌다. 높은 함침 각에서 전기저항도의 초기 기울기는 급격히 증가한 반면. 낮은 각에서는 점차적으로 증가하였다. 또한 낮은 함침각의 두 섬유 모두에서 stress whitening pattern을 뚜렷하게 관찰할 수 있었지만, 높은 함침 각에서는 그렇지 못했다. 섬유 함침 각이 감소함에 따라서 섬유 파단 간격과 debonding된 길이는 두 섬유 모두에서 증가하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 electro-micromechanical 시험법은 전도성 섬유강화 복합재료의 섬유 함침 각에 따른 계면 감지능 측정을 위해서 비파괴적 평가방법으로 실행 가능하였다.

광대역 에너지 탐지를 위한 수신신호 강도 크기기반 가중치인가 기법 (Receiving Signal Level Measurement Based Weighting Method for Broadband Energy Detection)

  • 본 논문에서는 수동 소나의 광대역 에너지 탐지를 위하여 수신신호 강도 변화에 따른 가중치를 인가하는 기법을 제안한다. 광대역 에너지 탐지에 널리 사용되는 부대역 에너지 탐지 (Subband Energy Detection) 기법은 CED(Conventional Energy Detection) 기법에 비하여 다중신호 및 클러터 간섭에 강인하나, 수신신호에서 검출된 극값의 강도 변화에 따라 효율적인 가중치를 인가할 수 없어 탐지 성능을 저하 시킨다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 검출된 극값의 강도 변화에 따라 효율적으로 가중치를 인가하는 기법을 제안하였다. 시뮬레이션 및 황해 실 음향 데이터를 이용한 성능 비교, 칼만 필터를 이용한 추적시험 수행을 통하여 제안 기법의 탐지성능이 기존 기법에 비해 우수함을 관찰하였다.

  • The structural modes driven by the low wave-number components of smooth elastic wall pressure provide a relatively weak coupling between the flow and the wall motion. If the elastic thin plate has any resonant mode whose wave-number of resonance coincides with $\omega$/U$\sub$c/, the power will be transmitted to those modes of vibration by the flows. We examine the problem in which the elastic thin plate is subject to pressure fluctuations under turbulent boundary layer. Measurements are presented of the frequency spectra of the near- and far-field pressures and radiated sound contributed by the various wave modes of the thin elastic plate. Dispersion equation for wave motions of elastic plate is used to investigate the effect of bending waves of relatively low wave number on radiated sound. The low wave-number motion of elastic plate is observed to have much less influence on the low-frequency energy of wall pressure fluctuations than that of the rediated sound. High amplitude events of the wall pressure are observed to weakly couple with high-frequency energy of radiated sound for case of low tension applied to the plate. The sound source localization is applied to the measurement of radiated sound by using acoustic mirror system.

암석파괴시 발생되는 미세균열의 발생원에 대한 연구 (A Study on Source Mechanisms of Micro-Cracks Induced by Rock Fracture)

  • 암석 시료가 파괴될 때에 발생되는 AE신호는 미세한 균열 발생시의 갑작스런 변형에너지 해바에 기인한다. 압전 압력형 탐촉자와 다채널 기록장치를 이용하여 AE 신호파를 기록하여 분석하므로 외적인 하중조건과 그에 따른 미세균열의 특징에 대하여 연구하였다. 연구결과 미세균열의 체적은 수 $\mu\textrm{m}^3$ 내지 $150,000\mu\textrm{m}^3$로 산출되어서 그 크기가 넓은 범위로 분포하였고 인장형 미세균열이 대체적으로 전단형 보다 큰 체적을 보였다. 또한, 균열원에서의 에너지 강도는 모드 I 하중조건하에서 발생하는 AE 신호가 혼합모드 조건하에서 발생한 신호보다 약 3배정도 크게 나타났으나,시료가 파괴되는 동안 기록된 AE 신호의 숫자는 반대로 모드 I의 경우가 혼합모드의 25%에 불과하였다. 이러한 사실은 같은 크기의 파괴면을 형성하는데 필요한 에너지 요구량이 대체적으로 동일함을 암시하는 것으로 보인다.
