The objectives in the present study are to investigate that the enhancement heat transfer was experimentally measured and was compared with the acoustic pressure obtained by numerical analysis. From the results of the present study, a strong Fluid motion initiated by ultrasonic vibrations can affect heat and mass transfer. This phenomenon. called acoustic streaming, clearly observed by PIV measurement leads to increase in velocity of a Fluid which is a crucial physical concept to explain the enhancement heat transfer. The heat transfer coefficient is increased with increase in the ultrasonic intensities. The largest enhancement heat transfer (about 26%) is measured at the ultrasonic intensity of 300W. Acoustic streaming results from sudden acoustic pressure variations in the liquid. The results of numerical analysis reveal that acoustic pressure is increased by 59.5% at the ultrasonic intensity of 300W. The higher acoustic pressure near four ultrasonic transducers develops more intensive flow destroying the flow instability. Also, the profiles of acoustic pressure variation are consistent with those of enhancement heat transfer.

Acoustic intensity method is applied to a 4-cylinder gasoline engine in order to identify the noise sources and the response characteristics. Acoustic intensity is analyzed by 1/3 octave band filter for each center frequency. Radiational characteristics of acoustic intensity at overall and the maximum intensity level are represented by using the contour and three-dimensional plot. It is verified that this method is effective to the assessment of engine noise. It can be found that the maximum intensity is radiated from the front side of the engine under idling condition and the right side of it under 2, 000 rpm running with no loading condition at overall level, and also that the maximum intensity is radiated from the oil pan and the intake and exhaust manifold at the center frequency of 100 Hz.

A high intensity progressive wave tube is installed at Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) for acoustic environmental tests. The test facility has 700 mm x 800 mm cross-sectional area, and provides acoustic environment of 165 dB over the frequency range of $25Hz{\sim}10,000Hz$. The facility consists of a 6 m long acoustic wave tube, acoustic power generation systems, gases nitrogen supply systems, and acoustic control systems. This paper describes how the basic parameters of the facility and power generation systems are controlled to meet the requirement of the test. The shape and length of the tube has been designed by using the size of test objects and the wave propagation characteristics of the tube. The capacity of acoustic power generation systems is determined by the energy conversion of acoustic wave and the efficiency of acoustic modulators. Moreover, the paper introduces test run results of the tube. Overall of 163dB has been generated by using the test facility.

A high intensity acoustic test facility is constructed at Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) by 2003. The reverberant chamber of the facility has a volume of 1,228 cubic meters and shall provide an acoustic environment of 152 dB over the frequency range of 25 Hz to 10,000 Hz. The facility consists of a large scaled reverberant chamber, acoustic power generation systems, gases nitrogen supply systems, and acoustic control systems. This paper describes how the basic parameters of a chamber and power generation systems are controlled to meet the requirement of the test. The volume of a reverberant chamber is controlled by the size of test objects and the reverberant characteristics of a chamber. The capacity of acoustic power generation systems is determined by the energy absorption of a chamber and the efficiency of acoustic modulators. Simple math is employed to calculate the required power of acoustic modulators. Moreover, the paper explains how the distribution of sound pressure level at low frequency is checked by analytical and numerical methods.
This study examined the acoustic characteristics of Korean alveolar fricatives of normal children. Developing children aged 3 and 7, typically produced 2 types of nonsense syllables containing alveolar fricative /sV/ and /VsV/ sequences where V was any one of three corner vowels (/i, a, and u/). Stimuli containing the speech materials used in a production experiment were presented randomly to 12 speech language pathologists (SLPs) for a perception test. The SLPs responded by selecting one of seven alternative sounds. Acoustic measures such as duration of frication noise, normalized intensity, skewness, and center of gravity were examined. There was significant difference in acoustic measures when comparing vowels. Comparison of syllable structures indicated statistically significant differences in duration of frication noise and normalized intensity. Acoustic parameters could account for the perceptual data. Relating the acoustic and perception data by means of logistic regression suggests that duration of frication noise and normalized intensity are the primary cues to perceiving Korean fricatives.

Sound intensity method is well known as a visualization technique of sound field or sound propagation in noise control. Sound intensity or energy flux is a vector quantity which describes the amount and the direction of net flow of acoustic energy at a given position. Especially two dimensional sound intensity method is very useful in evaluating periodic characteristics and acoustic propagation mode of noise source. In this paper, we have studied the noise source Identification, acoustic sound field analysis, and characteristics of noise source of rotary compressor and scroll compressor for air conditioner using complex sound intensity method. Also we proposed a now method of time domain analysis which is used in evaluating of position of noise source in rotary and scroll compressor in this paper This paper presents the advantage, simplicity and economical efficiency of this method by analysing the characteristics of noise source with two dimensional complex sound intensity simultaneously.
In the ball milling process of ceramic powders, according to economic considerations for industrial applications, it is very important to quickly determine the optimum process condition with the maximum grinding efficiency. However, it is still difficult to determine the optimum condition for a ball mill with respect to the various process parameters, such as the rotational speed and the milling time. Ball milling was carried out at the same starting conditions with given amounts of alumina powders, balls and water, and was conducted slower or faster or a critical rotational speed was just determined by observing the angular position of the slurry in a semi-translucent polyethylene laboratory container. With respect to the different rotational speeds, which were slower or faster than the critical rotational speed, the particle size distribution of the grained powders and the acoustic intensity caused by cascading of the balls led to various behaviors. From the results of the particle size distribution and the acoustic signal analysis in the ball milling, there was one rotational speed that made the finest milled powder with maximum acoustic intensity. As a result, there was a correlation between the ground particle size and the acoustic intensity, which yields the interpretation that it can be possible in-situ to determine the optimum condition of ball milling by acoustic signal without repeated measurement efforts.
In this paper, the vibro-acoustic behaviors of vibrational cylindrical shells are investigated by using structural intensity approach. The reducing interior noise method for vibrating cylindrical shells is proposed by altering and redistributing the structural intensity through changing the damping property of the structure. The concept of proposed novel method is based on the properties of structural intensity distribution on cylindrical shells under different load and damping conditions, which can reflects power flow in the structures. In the study, the modal formulas of structural intensity are developed for the steady state vibration of cylindrical shell structures. The detailed formulas of structural intensity are derived by substituting modal quantities, in which the effect of main parameters such as weight coefficients and distribution functions on structure intensity are analyzed and discussed. Numerical simulations are first carried out based on the structural intensity analytical solutions of modal formulas. Through simulating the coupling vibration and acoustical radiation problems of cylindrical shell, the relationship between vibro-acoustic and structural intensity distribution is derived. We find that for cylindrical shell, by properly arranging damping conditions, the structural intensity can be efficiently changed and further the noise property can be improved. The proposed methodology has important implications and potential applications in the vibration and noise control of fuselage structure.

Background and Objectives : Clinically, as a tool for voice assessment before and after the operation or the voice treatment, acoustic analysis is widely used. However, in clinical situations, acoustic parameters vary according to how the assessment is made. Thus, with voice disease patients as subjects, we are to investigate what influence intensity increase exerts on acoustic parameters and how to reduce variation according to the way of assessing. Material and Method : At the voice clinic of the department of otorhinolaryngology in Gangnam Severance Hospital, with 30 female voice-disease patients (40.6 years old on the average) and 23 male voice-disease patients (40.1 years old on the average) as subjects, using the Dr Speech vocal-assessment program, we statistically tested the significance of the difference in each of acoustic parameters between when the "Ah" vowel is produced with a normal voice and when the "Ah" vowel is produced with a loud voice. Results : Acoustic parameters that showed a statistically significant difference according to intensity increase were Jitter, SD F0, and NNE for females, and Jitter, SD F0, HNR, SNR, and NNE for males. Voice quality estimates showed a statistically significant difference according to intensity increase in female hoarse voice, female breathy voice, and male breathy voice. Conclusion : In this research, acoustic analysis, which is generally used for voice assessment before and after the operation or the voice treatment, showed a tendency that acoustic parameters became better under the influence of intensity increase except for the cases where a voice disease was severe. Thus, to raise the reliability of voice assessment, the range of intensity needs to be set up. This should be the topic for the future research.

In the studies of noise reduction, it is important to know the generation mechanism of noise in order to identify the noise source. The relation between the structural vibration and the radiated sound is very complex and so this paper deals with a simplified radiation model that was originally developed as a verification tool for the acoustic intensity measurement procedure. As the first step for the identification of the noise source, this study deals with the noise evaluation by measuring sound pressure. On the next step, the acoustic radiational pattern is determined by the acoustic intensity method and this paper established that the acoustic intensity method is effective on the detection of noise. In the study, furthermore, the method could be used to predict the change in the sound radiational characteristics with the attachment of absorber and could be used in determining the attachment position.
