A hybrid thermosetting maleimido epoxy compound 4-(N-maleimidophenyl) glycidylether (N-MPGE) containing Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions was prepared by curing N-MPGE and tetradentate Schiff base Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes. The curing polymerization reaction of N-MPGE with metal complexes as curing agents was studied. The cured samples were studied for thermal stability, chemical (acid/alkali/solvent) and water absorption resistance and homogeneity of the cured systems. The tetradentate Schiff base, 3-[(Z)-2-piperazin-1-yl-ethylimino]-1,3-dihydro indol-2-one was synthesized by the condensation of Isatin (Indole-2, 3-dione) with 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine (AEP). Its complexes with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been synthesized and characterized by microanalysis, conductivity, Uv-Visible, FT-IR, TGA and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acts as a neutral tetradentate Schiff base and coordinating through the azomethine nitrogen, two piperazine nitrogen atoms and carbonyl oxygen.
The polyaniline films of emeraldine base (EB) and leucoemeraldine base (LEB) form doped with cam-phorsulfonic acid (CSA) were prepared by casting the mixed solution of chloroform and m-cresol on ITO (indium tin oxide) electrode. By analyzing UV-vis spectra of the mixed solutions, the effects of the secondary doping by m-cresol were obtained. And the conductivity of polyaniline film was increased with increasing m-cresol content. As the results of analyzing cyclic voltammograms, it was known that the redox peak currents of polyaniline electrode prepared from LEB were larger and more reversible than those of polyaniline eleclrodes prepared from EB. The charge transfer resistances $(R_{ct})$ of polyaniline electrodes were reduced with increasing m-cresol content, showing smaller Rct for LEB/CSA than EB/CSA.

Composite membranes were prepared by the solution casting method from sulfonated poly(etheretherketone)(sPEEK) and imidazole and phosphotungstic acid(PWA) to enhance the electrolytic properties of the membrane. TGA measurements showed that physical crosslinking due to acid-base interactions improved the thermal resistance to the desulfonation of sulfonic acid groups of the composite membrane and the addition of PWA enhanced the resistance to thermal decomposition of the composite membrane. The acid-base interaction decreased the water uptake, proton conductivity and methanol permeability of the sPEEK/imidazole composite membranes. The addition of PWA increased the proton conductivities while it decreased the water uptake and methanol permeability of sPEEK/imidazole/PWA composite membranes. Therefore, the selectivity of the composite membranes was enhanced by the addition of PWA.

Polyaniline-Camphorsulfonic Acid Emeraldine Salt(PANI-CSA ES) was prepared by doping Polyaniline Ermeralidine Base(PANI EB) with DL-10-Camphorsulfonic Acid(CSA). PANI-CSA ES was solved in an organic solvent by ultrasonification for different periods of time and its surface resistivity was measured. Several PANI-CSA ES solutions solved in different organic solvents were prepared and their surface resistivities were measured. Thermal stability of film casted with PANI-CAS ES solution in m-cresol was estimated by measuring its surface conductivity and the content of this moisture and organic solvents. PANI-CSA ES was blended with different polymeric binders to improve its physical properties and the surface resistivities of several kinds of PANI-CSA ES blends were measured as a function of the content of PANI-CSA ES. PANI-CSA ES polymerized by 1-step oxidative polymerization was prepared and its surface resistivity was measured.
In this study, crosslinked poly(POEM-co-AMPSLi-co-GMA)s were prepared by epoxy coupling of GMA after radical copolymerization of AMPS, POEM and GMA followed by acid-base titration reaction between sulfonic acid of AMPS and $Li_2CO_3$. It was observed that the crystalline melting temperature of POEM was effected by mol% of components and shifted to lower value by lithiation of AMPS group. The ionic conductivity of crosslinked polymer electrolyte was decreased by addition of GMA but maintained over $1.0{\times}10^{-6}S\;cm^{-1}$ until 16 mol%. Particularly, the self-doped polymer electrolyte with 2 mol% of GMA showed its ionic conductivity as high as $4.08{\times}10^{-6}S\;cm^{-1}$ at room temperature and electrochemical stability up to 6 V. In addition, 0.11 MPa of modulus and 270% of elongation were obtained from the free standing film of crosslinked polymer electrolyte.
Cation exchange polymer electrolyte membrane for the application of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) was studied. Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) well known as a methanol barrier in pervaporation separation was used fur the base materials and poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) was used for the crosslinking agent with various concentration. Methanol permeability, ion conductivity, ion exchange capacity, water contents and fixed ion concentration of the membranes were investigated to evaluate the performance of the fuel cell electrolyte membrane. Methanol permeability and ion conductivity of the membranes were decreased with increasing PAA content and were increased over 15% of PAA content. These phenomena would be explained with the introduction of hydrophilic crosslinking agent. The membranes with 15% content of PAA showed methanol permeability of $6.49{\times}10^{-8}/cm^2/s,\; 2.85{\times}10^{-7}CM^2/s$ at $25^{\circ}C,\; 50^{\circ}C$ of operating temperatures, respectively. ion conductivities of the membrane were $2.66{\times}10^{-3}\;S/cm,$$9.16{\times}10^{-3}\;S/cm$ at $25^{\circ}C,\; 50^{\circ}C$ of operating temperatures, respectively. ion exchange capacity, water content and fixed ion concentration of the membrane were revealed 1.32 meq/g membrane,0.25 g $H_2$O/g membrane and 5.25 meq/g $H_2O$, respectively.
Proton exchange membrane is the key material for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Currently widely-used perfluorosulfonic acid membranes have some disadvantages, such as low thermal stability, easy swelling, excessive crossover of methanol and high price etc. Other membranes, including sulfonated polymer, radiation grafted membranes, organic-inorganic hybrids and acid-base blends, do not satisfy the criteria for PEMFC, which set a barrier to the development and commercialization of PEMFC. Pore-filling type proton exchange membrane is a new proton exchange membrane, which is formed by filling porous substrate with electrolytes. Compared with traditional perfluorosulfonic acid membranes, pore-filling type proton exchange membranes have many advantages, such as non- swelling, low methanol permeation, high proton conductivity, low cost and a wide range of materials to choose. In this research, preparation methodology of pore-filling membranes by particularly using all hydrocarbon polymers and fuel cell performances with the membranes are evaluated.

A major research objective related to proton exchange membrane(PEM) for DMFC is to achieve high proton conductivity over 10$^{-2}$ S/cm, high hydrolytic stability and low methanol permeability with low cost base materials. for the purpose, a lot of thermoplastic polymers such as polysulfones, polyethersulfone, polyetherketones, polyimides, polyoxadiazole, polyphosphazene and polybenzimidazol have been investigated. Amongst those polymers, polyimides have been suggested as a potential PEM due to their excellent thermal, chemical stability and good mechanical properties. Generally, polyimides are synthesized by polycondensation with numerious diamines and dianhydriedes. In our study, polyimide was prepared using non-sulfonated diamine, sulfonated diamine directly synthesized by fuming sulfuric acid, and naphthalenic dianhydride to improve the hydrolysis stability under acidic condition. Through monomer sulfonation-subsequent polymerization method, the high proton conducting capability and the desired sulfonation level were effectively controlled at the same time. To reduce severe methanol transport through the membrane, the chemical crosslinking among polymer chains was introduced using various crosslinking agents with different chain lengths. The crosslinked sulfonated polyimide membranes showed high proton conductivity up to 8.09$\times$10$^{-2}$ S/cm and from crosslinking effect methanol transport through the membranes was considerably reduced as compared with unmodified membranes. For increase of chain length of crosslinker, methanol permeability was adversely reduced to 10$^{-8}$$\textrm{cm}^2$/s due to decrease of IEC and increase of crosslinking desity.

Graphene is a good candidate for the future nano-electronic materials because it has excellent conductivity, mobility, transparency, flexibility and others. Until now, most graphene researches are focused on the nano electronic device applications, however, biological application of graphene has been relatively less reported. We have fabricated a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) conjugated graphene field-effect transistor (FET) and measured the electrical transport characteristics. We have used graphene sheets grown on Ni substrates by chemical vapour deposition. The Raman spectra of graphene sheets indicate high quality and only a few number of layers. The synthesized graphene is transferred on top of the substrate with pre-patterned electrodes by the floating-and-scooping method [1]. Then we applied adhesive tapes on the surface of the graphene to define graphene flakes of a few micron sizes near the electrodes. The current-voltage characteristic of the graphene layer before stripping shows linear zero gate bias conductance and no gate operation. After stripping, the zero gate bias conductance of the device is reduced and clear gate operation is observed. The change of FET characteristics before and after stripping is due to the formation of a micron size graphene flake. After combined with 30 base pairs single-stranded poly(dT) DNA molecules, the conductance and gate operation of the graphene flake FETs become slightly smaller than that of the pristine ones. It is considered that DNA is to be stably binding to the graphene layer due to the ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking interaction between nucleic bases and the surface of graphene. And this binding can modulate the electrical transport properties of graphene FETs. We also calculate the field-effect mobility of pristine and DNA conjugated graphene FET devices.
This study was carried out to plan the prevention of the generation and discharge of Acid Rock Drainage (ARD). The Acid Base Accounting(ABA) test was performed for geological materials such as pit wall, waste rock and stream sediments near the Imgi abandoned pyrophyllite mine in Busan, Korea. In addition, hydraulic characteristics were tested with the disk tension infiltrometer around the waste rock dump. Maximum Potential Acidity(MPA) of geological materials near the Imgi mine was 246.942kg $H_2SO_4/t$, and maximum Acid Neutralising Capacity(ANC) was 8.7kg $H_2SO_4/t$. These results indicate the pit wall and waste rock, except most of stream sediments are acid generating geological materials. These have salt and free hydrogen ion which resulted from oxidation of sulfides. Hence they could be convert rain water to acid rock drainage. Although the waste rock dump of the Imgi mine have very low infiltration rate, slopes of the waste rock dump have many "V" type erosion gullies and multi-layers. These gullies and multi-layers have coarse clastic particle layers which have very large hydraulic conductivity. Through this coarse clastic particle layer a large part of rain flow into ground. And also this layer could function as aeration path which induced oxidation of sulfide minerals and generation of ARD continuously.
