  • The aim of this study is to find out benefits of symptom questionnaire for oriental medical treatments. We analyzed symptom questionnaire of Korean association of abdomen diagnosis and treatment. Conclusions are as below. 1. Appetite, taste and digestion have a deep connection with accumulation and muscular contracture, with which the method of reinforcement and reduction is decided. 2. Feces, urine and, sweat have a deep connection with accumulation and water, with which the method of diaphoresis, emesis and purgation is decided. 3. Thirst and chillness and fever have a deep connection with water poisons and feverish feeling, based on which the cold and heat is classified. 4. we can find out the lesions with departmentalized physical sections of the head and the face, the chest, the abdomen, the articulations, the limbs and the skin. 5. It is possible to select appropriate prescription and assess before & after treatment through the questionnaire.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out relationship between "Yakjing" and the textbook of herbology. Conclusions are as below. 1. The herbs of accumulation of poison(結毒) generally show cold nature and have a reducing effect, which resemble the method of treating accumulation and stagnation. 2. The herbs of muscular contracture(攣) show sweet taste and tonifying effect, fall on the spleen and the stomach and have acts of treating urgency, relieving pain and conciliating, which resemble the method of treating urgency(急)and pain from accumulation and stagnation. 3. The herbs of water poisons(水毒) are categorized as those of cold nature and dampness and we can find out that water poisons is related to cold nature. 4. The herbs of feverish feeling(煩) treat heat. 5. The herbs of cardiothoracic part have an effect of regulating Gi and treat the phlegm disease.

  • This paper considers the concept of analog computing based on a cellular neural network (CNN) paradigm to simulate nuclear reactor dynamics using a time-dependent second order form of the neutron transport equation. Instead of solving nuclear reactor dynamic equations numerically, which is time-consuming and suffers from such weaknesses as vulnerability to transient phenomena, accumulation of round-off errors and floating-point overflows, use is made of a new method based on a cellular neural network. The state-of-the-art shows the CNN as being an alternative solution to the conventional numerical computation method. Indeed CNN is an analog computing paradigm that performs ultra-fast calculations and provides accurate results. In this study use is made of the CNN model to simulate the space-time response of scalar flux distribution in steady state and transient conditions. The CNN model also is used to simulate step perturbation in the core. The accuracy and capability of the CNN model are examined in 2D Cartesian geometry for two fixed source problems, a mini-BWR assembly, and a TWIGL Seed/Blanket problem. We also use the CNN model concurrently for a typical small PWR assembly to simulate the effect of temperature feedback, poisons, and control rods on the scalar flux distribution.

  • Endlicheria anomala, a neotropical plant, is found in northern South America and the Amazon region. It is traditionally used to remove poisons and cure gangrene. According to recent data, this plant has diverse biological properties such as anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-melanogenic properties. However, the anti-cancer effect of E. anomala and its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we examined the anti-cancer effect and the active mechanism of methanol extract of E. anomala (MEEA) in human lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549) and human liver cancer cells (HepG2). Our data revealed that MEEA showed cytotoxic activity in a dose-dependent manner and induced apoptosis both in A549 and HepG2 cells. We verified evidences of apoptosis via formation of chromatin condensation, apoptotic body and accumulation of cells in the subG1 phase. Following observed apoptosis-related phenomena, we found that the induction of apoptosis by MEEA was associated with the increase of tumor suppressor p53 and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21 (WAF1/CIP1) expression. Furthermore, MEEA-induced apoptosis was characterized with proteolytic activation of caspase-3, degradation of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP), and up-regulation of pro-apoptotic Bax expression. Taken together, these findings indicate that MEEA may have potential cancer therapeutic utility in A549 and HepG2 cells.
