  • The Conceiving-Designing-Implementing-Operating (CDIO) initiative is a worldwide organization with members from over 120 institutions for higher education, and it provides an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. This paper compares the CDIO standards and syllabus to the accreditation criteria of Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea, ABEEK to identify similarities and differences and to find points of improvement for ABEEK criteria. It is found that the basic concepts of ABEEK criteria correlates well with those of CDIO standards, while the CDIO standards and syllabus provide more detailed and well-defined guidelines for engineering programs. Finally, some discussions are presented on the differences between the two educational models, a voluntary-based CDIO model and an accreditation-based ABEEK model.

The face validity was from the advisory committee and public committee hearing. Results: The characteristics of nursing science were defined with five concepts including humanity, scientific knowledge, professionalism, therapeutic relationship, and facilitating well-being. The expected outcomes from graduates were identified as providing holistic nursing, critical thinking, establishing professionalism and leadership, construction of a therapeutic relationship, and skilled nursing practice. Finally6 standards and 14 criteria reflecting the unique characteristics of the nursing profession were developed for accreditation. These proposed accreditation standards and criteria are a challenge to promote the quality of nursing science.

  • The demand for promoting industrialization construction methods is increasing in Korea to cope with various construction environments, such as the lack of construction engineers, aging construction workers, and the government's 52-hour workweek policy. The industrial housing accreditation system was introduced in 1992 to recognize and improve the quality of industrial housing, but only six companies are currently certified, and there are no records of constructing industrial houses. Currently, the industrialized housing accreditation system in Korea comprises standards for the recognition, revocation of recognition, and promoting the construction of industrial houses. Therefore, this study analyzed the regulations of the industrialized housing accreditation system, derived the problems of each regulation, and derived improvement directions to promote the industrialized housing accreditation system in Korea. Specific measures include expanding the current industrial housing accreditation scope to quasi (semi)-housing, revising the performance and production standards of industrialized housing, relaxing the building standards, and providing financial support to promote industrialized housing.

The aim of this study is to contribute to the development of the Healthcare Accreditation Program in Korea by comparing the perception of the Healthcare Accreditation Program for the accredited hospitals and the surveyors. Methods: This study was performed targeting 77 accredited acute care hospitals and 245 surveyors who have surveyed acute care hospitals from 2010 to February 2014. They responded to our questionnaire via a survey website, and we analyzed the results. Results: We found that the hospitals rated the professionalism of surveyors more positively than surveyors. While average score of the hospitals was higher for 'The understanding of the accreditation standards and survey methods was correct' than that of the surveyors (p<0.01), average score of the surveyors was higher for 'Mediation and collaboration between surveyors were smooth' than that of the hospitals (p<0.05). And we found that the surveyors rated the Accreditation Program more positively than hospitals. While average score of the hospitals was higher for 'Surveyors have the professionalism' than that of the surveyors (p<0.05), average score of the surveyors was higher for 'It is easy to understand the accreditation standards and evaluation items' than that of the hospitals (p<0.01). Conclusion: In order to development of the accreditation program, it is necessary to strengthen the professionalism of surveyors and improve the acceptability of the accreditation program.
